(Note: This is once again a sort of niche idea for a roleplay set in the world of Sports Entertainment...Professional Wrestling. The amazing, outrageous, sometimes stupid, and varied world of Pro Wrestling is of course scripted, but in it's strange narrative it has crafted stories that stand the test of time and has even crafted stories that play out over years and years. In THIS rp though, the story will be that Professional Wrestling is in fact, real and the biggest form of entertainment on earth. Meaning that we are dealing with superhumans who can deliver light punches and still make someone double over in pain, take sledgehammers to the head and only be knocked out or heavily fazed, and moves that a normal human couldn't make do any real damage are damned near enough to knock a soul out for hours. Will we discuss how the world is completely fine with this and instead is content to just let these semi-superhuman types just slug it out with one another on a world stage and the implications of that?
NOPE. Not even gonna gloss over it. So no need to wonder or worry.
Wrestling as I said is outrageous, fun, insane, coming together to make a unique world where it seems completely normal for a seemingly "undead/wizard" to face off against an Irish brawler and...somehow it's a fair fight with genuine hype and interest. Also they seem completely fine settling their differences in matches, in front of a roaring crowd. This will make use of "canon", aka real life wrestlers from all over the world. WWE, NJPW, CMLL, AEW, TNA, STARDOM, etc. While I know it's niche and I do not anticipate a lot of interest, any who ARE interested will be happy to know I don't expect you to be a massive fan of wrestling to get it, and will happily answer any questions, including just blatantly laying out what the majority of the story is and the general vibe of the direction I am going for in terms of middle and end.)
Residing in a realm where superhuman feats are more common...
In this world, there are many sports out there...each boasting their own titans. Yet no sport is as large or as wide spanning as the sport of Professional Wrestling. It is a sport where individuals with physical abilities far beyond the norm and even peak gather to test their skills in frotn of crowds of thousands upon thousands within the arena...and hundreds of millions watching around the globe. It is a world where larger than life individuals are heralded to the ringTo say this has garnered fame and fortune would be an understatement.
The four major pillars of Professional Wrestling reside within the nations that often create the finest and most dangerous individuals for the honor of the sport. Mexico, Canada, Japan, and America stand as the most dominant lands boasting several champions both past and present that have come to grace the Hall Of Fame. Stories of hardship, dominance, and unlikely leaders of the industry that have carved their name into the very history with blood, sweat, and tears.
To even be a member of one of the major "promotions", the businesses and companies that put on the matches of these stars of the ring, is to have performed a feat. Whether it is New Japan Pro Wrestling, Stardom, CMLL, or even the WWE...in this world it means money. It means a competitive environment where to even be able to enter is its own journey. Yet one must have a competitive spirit as well for what comes next, because very few are willing to simply settle to be a member. Because many fight, battle, and hone their skills so that one day they might hold the most precious thing in the industry...
A Championship Title.
Titles. Representations that in YOUR particular promotion you are so powerful or skilled (or even both) that you have climbed a mountain and been graced with solid proof of your own greatness. Colloquially referred to as "gold" in many cases as it is often the metal more commonly used upon such championships, to possess one of these is to rise up higher in the professional sport. It is to be marked for greatness and to the millions upon millions either cheering or booing...it is proof that you are to be respected and even feared. Promotions, and especially the mightiest and largest ones, will often possess more than one championship for their competitors to battle and fight for. To hold a championship is not merely for bragging rights however, but is in fact a path to a prosperous future. Those who hold championships will gain far more financial success as the "champions purse" as it is called will remain much larger so long as you hold the gold around your waist or over your shoulder. Some championships bear the symbols of a specific multimedia brand, a representation of the billion dollar industry that also pours its money into the wrestling promotion. Some bear monikers such as "Intercontinental Champion" indicating the wrestlers willingness to defend it on stages all around the world to prove their worth. Some are Tag Team titles, shared between two competitors who have formed a bond together, and now together reap the rewards and higher influence within their own company that comes with the gold. In this business that has become the dominant form of entertainment like a new form of the Gladiators of old, to hold a title is to be a credit not just to your promotion but to be a statement to the entirety of the business at large. Larger numbers upon checks, more respect, and a pull upon the very company you work for. Though such people must be wary, because to hold such a thing is to be targeted. To place a bullseye upon your back for the next soul hungry for all that strap upon you bestows...
Yet...there is something above even the prestige of owning a championship like these...where you stake yourself out as a prime player in your company and promotion.
For while these titles are indeed impressive, and bring with them well earned success (either through honorable or devious means) they are not the highest form one can achieve within the business that now moves entire economies of cities and beyond. It is one thing to gain the eyes of those around you and to have them mark you as a threat and a rising star in a multi-billion dollar industry that spans the globe. It is another to COMMAND such attention with every move you make, and ensure that you stand among a small elite group even with all promotions combined. Another step that even those who carry the pieces of gold pictured above cannot forget, and intend to one day claim for themselves. We speak of course...
A World Title.
A World Championship.
To hold such a thing is to be the pinnacle of your company. To stand side by side with the very few who are able to achieve that rank and endure the violence and pressure that comes along with it. You will be constantly assailed, constantly challenged, and even those already carrying gold will eye yours with a hunger that comes from the knowledge that whatever benefits THEY enjoy that yours are that much more tempting and inviting. Beings who obtain a world title are mighty, and those who can hold one for a long time pass into legend within the sport. Their influence and prestige even continuing even after some of them have lost the title, and at times they use that legend to leverage their way back into the running for it. Every promotion has these. The Undisputed WWE Championship. The IWGP Heavyweight Championship. The CMLL Heavyweight Championship. The AEW World
This business is real, and it is cutthroat and for many it is a lifelong obsession that may never be fully realized. So long as one puts in the effort through honorable (or less than honorable) means they can claw, bite, and scratch their way to the top. Skill and power alone is not enough. The promotions and companies merely providing the backdrop for the grand drama to play out...
That is a god damn LIE...but don't worry. I'll show you the truth of it.
