The kingdom of Evaloria, largest of the eight kingdoms of Kadia. Ruled for the past 500 by King Bruton, a man known for his cunning as well as his cruelty. It was only in the last ten years of his reign that the king married a quiet, beautiful princess from the kingdom of Tralentia. The people cheered when the marriage was announced, grateful to have a queen that was as benevolent as her husband was heartless. There were whispers of the abuse she endured at her husband’s hands, but the woman did not break. Each day she greeted the world with warm smiles and gentle hands, but inside she was silently praying for her husband’s death.
What the queen doesn’t know is that ten years earlier, on the day she was wed, a plan was already forming with her at the center of it. A man in the crowd was already scheming how to gain control of the throne, and when the queen entered the picture, she became the focus of all his planning. One brief glance between them was all it took for him to become obsessed with the woman. Some nights he would wake, swearing her heard her calling for him, begging him to save her. He became convinced that she was, that somehow she could reach him through dreams and she wanted him to come rescue her.
The plan took ten years of plotting and spying, learning not only about the weaknesses of the castle, but of the king himself. The man learned of the abuse dealt to the queen, that despite Evaloria not being her true home, the people adored her all the same. More importantly, he learned that the king’s cruelty was beginning to strangle the loyalty from his people who were growing tired of bloodshed and hopelessness in spite of the kingdom’s prosperity. Evaloria, much like its queen, was a kingdom begging to be saved. Unfortunately, it would take violence to get the job done.
It was simple enough. He and several of his soldiers would break into the castle in the middle of the night to slaughter the king and claim the throne and the queen for himself. The mission was successful and by the dawn of the next morning, the king’s head was on display for all Evalorians to see as they watched him marry their queen.
Claiming the kingdom and the woman of his dreams was the easy part. Holding onto them would prove far more challenging. The throne he’d stolen was coveted by many. Evaloria’s size, the mountains filled with gold and precious gems, and richness of the land itself made it the prize of all prizes. His own army was divided between protecting his own small kingdom and trying to keep Evaloria in check until he could gain full control. This is where the queen came in.
Sparing her life wasn’t entirely for his own selfish reasons, although they played the biggest part in his motives. Where her former husband did not allow the woman any say in matters of the kingdom, the new king kept her by his side, asking for her opinion on matters and taking her words into consideration. He understood that if the people felt there was someone on their side, they may be less inclined to begin a revolt against him, something he honestly could not deal with on top of the piles of problems that came with claiming the throne. Not only did he have two kingdoms to run, but he now had a slew of new enemies breathing down his neck, waiting for one little sign of weakness to strike.
That’s not to say the relationship between the usurper and the queen was not difficult in its own way. For a decade she’d been abused, her powers suppressed, and her spirit beaten into submission. Yet, a spark of the princess he’d been obsessed with remained. He saw it in the way she refused to cower when he entered their chambers each night, replacing the spot in bed once occupied by her abuser. He did not force her to do anything. Each night he’d enter the room, watching his new wife as she waited for what she believed was inevitable. Each night he would merely strip off his clothes and settle into bed beside her, what felt like an ocean of space between them. He didn’t push, but that didn’t mean that he remained idle. He observed, learning her habits and behaviors, always searching for a way to weasel himself closer to her.
The queen, however, was not without her secrets. Since the horror of her wedding night, she’d been doing her own plotting. The secrets passed along to the new king weren’t merely observations, it was information given freely by a queen eager to be free of the violent man she’d been forced to marry. She wasn’t aware that she was aiding the man who would take the kingdom, only that her freedom would be assured. Her freedom was not granted. Instead, she was married off from one king to another, still bound to a man she did not care for. Trust was difficult to give, despite the man’s careful distance. The only thing keeping her in his bed was the possibility that her people and her home kingdom would pay the price if she attempted to escape.
The first night of their marriage, the queen sat on the bed she would share with her new husband, her expression neutral, her body bare, but mind was in turmoil. When his footsteps finally broke the silence in the room, she expected him to charge at her, claiming what he’d rightfully stolen. When he sat down to begin undressing himself and eventually settled into other side of the bed, she was confused and skeptical, not believing he wouldn’t force himself on her to consummate their marriage. Instead, he insisted she lay down and sleep before rolling over on his side to do exactly that himself.
Every night was the same. She’d wait, working her mind into a frenzy believing this would be the night he showed his true colors, but each night he would fall asleep without touching her. It unsettled her more than it put her at ease, especially when the man started pulling her into his council, asking for her opinions and seeking out her thoughts when they were alone. She didn’t trust him, not at all, yet she began to grow comfortable with his presence.
However, his theft did not go unnoticed for long and it was only a matter of time before the other kingdoms began to stir, fearing that his goals would not stop at Evaloria. War was brewing, and soon they would be forced to work together to try and stop bloodshed from entering their continent and try to find a way to maintain peace.

This is intended to be a fated mates story, so if that's not your thing you can skip the rest. There will be a backstory about the two, but I would prefer to work that out with possible partners.
I'm looking for someone to play the king, and however many other characters they would like to include. The more the merrier! I don't mind doubling, although I'm a bit rusty when it comes to playing a male in a MxF pairing. If you don't mind, I'm more than happy to do it. I also don't mind doing MxM or FxF.
Romance is a definite must, although it's not the entire point of the plot. The same goes for smut. I love a good spicy scene as much as the next girl, but I prefer more plot.
If you're interested, feel free to send me a PM.
