MC has a really rough time of things.
First her father got sick with cancer a year ago, stage 4 lung cancer. She wished her father had quit smoking years ago like she’d begged him.
Then her stepmother abandoned them in the middle of the night, leaving only a note that said she didn’t sign up to be a nursemaid for a sick dying husband. The heartless bitch, she never deserved MC’s devoted loving father.
Six months after her stepmother’s abandonment, her father succumbed to his cancer and unfortunately, all his medical expenses ate up all his savings, leaving his daughter alone in the world with only what she could make from her part time job.
She would have had her father’s life insurance policy, but the woman kept refusing to sign divorce papers and got her hands on the money. Apparently she had some big fancy corrupt lawyer that made certain that MC saw only what was necessary to properly bury her father. Not a penny more.
She’d only taken part time so she would have time to take care of her father, because like hell was she going to leave her father who had loved her fiercely all her life to endure his illness every single day 9 AM to 10 PM all alone. She’s been begging her boss to give her full time so she won’t lose the apartment she shared with her family, but the bastard just won’t budge… sure, three bed apartment is a little big for just her, but it’s only been six months and she’s just not ready to let go of all the happy memories she has with her father in this apartment. It’s too soon and too painful.
When it looks like she might lose her apartment, she decides to ask her landlord for a meeting to discuss an extension on the rent while she haggles with her boss on finally giving her full time hours.
Come to find out, the landlord she was familiar with had retired and now his son was running the show.
