This is an intro post to a story I started with someone, but they never replied. It's a story thats gone untold for too long and I would love to bring it back to life with someone.

Hi there,

I'll be quick summing myself up, but I've worked on my writing quite a bit to get it to a level of quality I really enjoy. I go for both quality and quantity and I'm hoping for a partner that has a similar writing style to myself. I write third person/past tense. 500 words is usually my minimum but depending on the scene it can vary quite a bit. I usually get closer to 800 words but can go 1000+. I like solid writing but I'm not a stickler for perfect grammar and typos don't bother me. Gods know I make mistakes. As long as your writing isn't riddled with them and you've put good effort in, then I'm happy! I really just need a partner that pushes the story forward because I will definitely be pushing us in the direction we decide on together, I just don't want to be the only one moving the story along. I'm a big fan of fantasy, romance, adventure, and slow burns.

Expectations/Preferences for you and myself
-500 word minimum per post. My range is 500-1500+ depending on the scene.
-Third person/past tense
-Communication (For both plotting and just general communication about wait times between posts)
-Posts like once a week, more if possible of course, but this is a hobby and it should be fun. No pressure. Just let me know so I'm not constantly checking for updates.
-18+ themes like sex, drugs, violence, ect... I like detailed writing so things will get nitty gritty.
-A solid story that also includes smut where it fits. I don't have a preferred ratio but I'm big on sexual tension and slow burns that sometimes erupt suddenly. It should be organic if our characters have chemistry.

I often post more than once a week. If I am really hyped on a story I'll be checking for replies throughout the day and if I'm not at work I'll usually write back right away. If I plan to take longer I try to communicate that.

I enjoy writing male characters that have that brooding, hates the world energy that also have a soft spot for that one person. Someone who comes off as standoffish and prickly towards everyone except her. He can go from glaring and threatening one minute to soft and gentle the next, but that soft side only shows for her. In my 'Envy of the Gods'(Link in signature) story I wrote a demigod who could kill with just his touch. Mortals and Gods both feared him, but when it came to his love interest he was kind and soft. But that switch always flipped quickly one way or another depending on the situation. He was such a tortured soul and the whole story was angsty haha but the contrast between who he was with her and who he showed the rest of the world was really fun to write.

I'm big into fantasy, romance, and adventure. I like there to be an overarching plot that our characters are driving along, but I don't like sticking to a rigid storyline. I like to set an objective but getting there isn't a straight line. There are always little misadventures and side plots happening along the way. Lots of chaos at times and situations that force our characters to build trust and understanding. I also love smut, but only when it's written in to fit the story. I love the slow burn that eventually erupts in a desire filled frenzy if that makes sense.

This was the basic idea for the story

- This story is about a woman searching for the knight that saved her life years ago. He saved her from something but she never had the chance to thank him because he was injured at the time and was taken away. She's been looking for him ever since. But she finds him, only to learn that he actually lost his hearing because of the injury. He's totally deaf, and because of that he's lost his standing as a knight and is now doing mercenary work. I was thinking he has a traveling companion thats a bit more light hearted since his story is so heavy. This person would be a good buffer for explaining his situation but also making things a bit less heavy. I was thinking of involving some details like how he is still just as courageous as he was before when he rescued her. How he speaks in a low, rumbly, hushed voice since he can't hear himself. How he's been learning to read lips since he lost his hearing. But I imagine this story might be a bit heavy because she would probably feel a lot of guilt for his injury and his current state. Maybe thats why she decides to travel with him, feeling like she needs to help him even though he's been doing alright.

The intro post

The forest canopy swayed along with the breeze, leafs rustling as the summer sun sat high in the sky. It was mid-summer and the heat was at its worst. It hadn't rained in over a month, leaving the fields desperate for water and the wells nearing dry. This was the worst part of summer for a lot of people. Drought brought about famine and disease but also more crime. Just like in the winter, when everyone would fight to survive, bandits and low lives crawled out of the woodwork to steal from the defenceless who already had so little. Of course the conditions wern't as poor as mid winter when the frigid air nipped at your toes and threatened to bite them right off. But people would use any reason to cannibalize each other, any excuse to invoke violence and fear. But that was how the world was, full of terrible people. But maybe he was just bitter.

Hale had never considered himself a bitter person, but that changed five years ago. Losing a part of yourself will do that to you, having something unfairly snatched away only to be left wounded and lost. He walked along the forest trail, hazel eyes lifting to the swaying branches above. But he couldn't hear the leafs rustling, couldn't hear his footsteps as he walked, he couldn't even hear the shorter man at his side. There was only silence. Empty, lonely, silence. When he was first injured his ears would ring, but even the ringing had abandoned him now. It was hard not to be bitter. At first he was angry, mourning the loss of his hearing with frustration and rage. But with time he'd grow tired of being angry and now only bitterness lingered on his tongue. It wasn't there all the time but it appeared when he was left at a disadvantage because of his lack of hearing. Missing out on a conversation, seeing the word 'Daft' on people's lips as they looked at him, being struck from behind because he didn't hear an enemy approaching. It was all so frustrating, but he'd learned to live with it. He was a knight at heart, had perseverance hammered into him by both the royal guard and the Nuns who raised him. There was no giving up. There was no self pity. Just a steady path forward. Even if he stumbled, he would keep moving forward until his legs could no longer carry him. He didn't regret the choices he made that ended in his deafness, though some days he did wonder what life would be like if he'd never lost his hearing. If he hadn't lost his place in the Guard. Loss was a monster that lurked at the edges of his mind, no matter how he tried to ignore it.

A tap on his arm pulled his gaze to the side, looking down at his companion. Red. He was young in every sense. Both in age and in personality. At times he was no better than a child despite being a young man. He always seemed to have a mischievous glint in his dark eyes, but right then he was looking up at Hale with concern.

"Do we have to do this? They're not even paying us." Hale's eyes watched the man's lips, taking in his words as they continued to walk. He nodded though, shrugging one of his armoured shoulders. He didn't wear the iron of a Royal Guard any longer, but leather. It was lighter, cheaper, and allowed him to move quickly when needed. Red was dressed in regular breeches and a light, airy tunic. A pack was strapped to his back, but Hale had left his in town with the people they were doing this job for. It would only get in the way.

"Don't give me that-" Red complained before shrugging his shoulder in a dramatic mocking motion, movements dramatic and full of sarcasm as a grin tugged at Hale's lips. Red lifted his hands, holding them in front of his chest with his fingers straight and thumbs sticking up. He brought the flat edge of his one hand down, tapping it between his thumb and first finger in a quick, rapid, chopping motion. Silently repeating the same word over and over.

'Annoying, annoying, annoying'

Hale couldn't help as his faint smile pulled into a full grin, chuckling softly as Red's enthusiasm. The man only ever had this kind of energy if he was irritated or if there was gold involved. Hale's laugh was a low rumble, vibrating from his chest quietly. He was a man of few words now, and when he did speak it was quiet. He couldn't hear, so he tried to control himself and not speak too loudly. Hale lifted his own hands, copying the sign back to Red before pointing at the man, calling him annoying with a grin still pulled across his lips.

"Wow, I thought we were friends." Red spoke, crossing his arms over his chest in imitation hurt. To be fair, they were off on a job that had no reward at the end. They were passing through a town when Red overheard people speaking about bandits camping out nearby. They came almost every day, demanding coin, food, and anything else from the people. Like some wannabe tax collectors, taking more and more each day from people too afraid to speak up or fight back. Bullies... scum. He saw the opportunity for a job and maybe some coin so he told Hale. But after speaking to the townspeople it was clear they had no money, no means to pay them. But Hale had already made up his mind at that point. They would help, simply because they could. So, they set off towards the camp.

Red called him a soft hearted fool, Hale tried to think it was noble to help people. But either way, they were out to risk their lives with no reward in sight.

The bandit camp had proven to be more of a challenge than Hale originally thought. It was only about half a dozen men with crude weapons and no real skill at wielding them, but their numbers proved to be an issue. Hale had cut down two already, but the last four managed to circle him. He always tried to keep his enemy in front of him. He couldn't hear attacks coming from behind, so naturally he tried to keep people in his sight. But that was impossible as two slinked behind him. He knew they were there, but he couldn't turn to look at them as the man before him lunged forward. Hale lifted his weapon, swords crossing in a loud, ear peircing clang. Metal struck metal, his eyes focused on his enemies face. He watched, seeing the man's eyes glance behind him for just a split second. Hale pushed the man off of him before side stepping, flinching as a sword swung down right where he had been standing a moment ago. He was quick to react, thrusting his blade forward and peircing it through the man's exposed side. The bandit's lips parted in what Hale could only imagine was a scream, face contorting as he fell to the ground. He didn't have time to watch the man die though, he was busy trying to keep the remaining three in his sights.

Red was hiding off somewhere, tucked among some bushes where he was safe. The man wasn't a fighter, his skills were better used in bartering, finding them jobs, or talking them out of situations. Hale's skills were better used in a fight. The two men knew their strengths and stayed out of each other's way when needed. But this fight was proving to be a challenge. It was like the men had caught on to his hearing issue, seeming to purposely slink behind him. One would attack from the front to try and pin him in place while another came at him from behind. It was only thanks to the years of training he had that he'd managed to fend off the surprise attacks again and again. It was starting to annoy him though, the rinse and repeat of the same method over and over. Like rats biting at a cat's tail, agitating and difficult to be rid of. Except these rats had sickles and swords and nasty sneers on their faces.

Hale was raised by Nuns in an orphanage. Like many children born into poverty, he never knew his parents. Despite being raised in a house of God he often found himself in trouble. The kids there were scrappy and troubled, fights often broke out when the Sister's had their backs turned. When he turned fifteen he was considered a man and 'released' from the orphanage. Well, more like he was kicked out. He was old enough to take care of himself, so he went out into the world to try and make a way for himself. Like many young men, he was scouted by the Royal Guard, offered a roof over his head and food if he swung a sword where they told him to. So, he took the opportunity. It wasn't glamorous, but it was honest and it kept him off the street.

As the years passed his skills grew. He began to climb the ranks from being a foot solider, and by the time he was twenty he was a full blooded Knight Captain. He was mid tier, in charge of a small group of men, but still working under a Commander. He had promise though, even complimented by the Generals for his skill and drive. He was expected to keep climbing the ranks, to keep bringing glory to their Kingdom, to one day become a Commander himself and maybe even a General if he lived long enough. The future was bright, opportunities falling at his feet in the face of his grit and skill.

But then everything changed.

They were given orders, a rescue mission deep in the mountains. A woman was taken, someone of importance that needed to be retrieved at any cost. They succeeded, but he was badly injured. He was struck in the head hard enough to knock him unconscious. He was quick to get back on his feet when he woke, but the wound on the back of his head was the least of his worries.

At first, his ears wouldn't stop ringing. It was faint at first but slowly grew louder with time and eventually, it was all he could hear. The healers told him it would eventually stop, but when it stopped… he couldn't hear anything at all.

The world wasn't just quiet, it was silent. He couldn't even hear his own breaths, his own heart beat. The healers couldn't do anything for him, the Royal Guard released him from service, and he was left adrift. Not being able to hear was terrifying at first, for an uneducated man that couldn't read or write either… he was left completely lost. He couldn't communicate with anyone… how could he find work? How could he survive?

But he did survive. He adapted and changed, learned to read writing, learned to read lips. Learned to be patient and wait and watch before acting. To be aware of his surroundings. He changed from a reckless man who was quick to act to a calm, contemplative, almost stoic man. He needed to focus, needed to pay attention and think before acting because most of the time he was figuring out situations happening around him much slower than others.

This story is about heartache, adventure, romance, and finding love despite the odds. She can be anything you'd like, as long as the knights being sent to rescue her makes sense. I was thinking someone Royal or Noble, or even just someone useful to the Crown. But I imagine a princess running away from home to find her long lost knight against her parent's wishes. The drama that would bring would be really fun to write. I'm sure the Palace would send people after her to bring her back home, and I'm sure he would insist she go back home as well haha I also imagine a dynamic where he is the calm and steady one and she is more of a firecracker going off on people who mutter about him behind his back.

If this sounds like something you're interested in, and you'd like to help me breathe some new life into this story idea, send me a message! Tell me about yourself! I'd love a writing sample as well, if thats okay. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Also, disclaimer, this story is not about 'fixing' him or trying to bring back his hearing. It's simply a different take/idea on the typical romance adventure stories we all know and love.
