Varla Ashes
Name: Varla Ashes

Age: 25

Gender: Female

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Race: Tiefling

Class/Level: Sorcerer 1

Subclass: Draconic Bloodline

Background: Acolyte
From a young age Varla was a devoted disciple to her local church, her father and mother raising her to believe in their god and to open her heart to the idea that she would be following the Order of Sol for a majority of her life. She lived a good life, her mother and father protecting her and sheltering her from the evil that surrounded them. Despite being a sorcerer of draconic blood she was loved though from the start she was always told to hide her magic, never to reveal it to anyone unless her parents gave her permission. She never knew why her parents were so strict about this however as a few years passed and Varla had reached the age of ten she realised why.

This so called order was no holy place, their god a lie to hunt and take those with magical abilities like Varla. Though her parents tried to hide her abilities she was eventually found out, a rogue spell went off leading this cult to her. Surely enough they arrived, kicking down her home's door and demanding they hand over their child or face consequences, her parents refused leading the cultists to be murdered in cold blood whilst their daughter watched. The order took her away, hid her deep under their temple and reminded with their symbol that no matter what she was theirs.

For fifteen years she endured the pain of endless torture, the order demanding that she become something they desired. Despite the darkness and the pain she had a glimmer of light, that light being her friend Vein, a drow with the same upbringing as her. Together they devised a plan, every year the cultists take one subject and test the might and that very year it was Varla's turn. When the time came that she would be brought to their testing room where all the cultists would be present. As the test began and the shackles of her containment Varla lost it, magic thrown throughout the air as she murdered cultists left and right. She no longer cared for those who caused her so much pain for fifteen years. Her mind shattered as she burned and obliterated those who opposed her however such an action didn't go without consequences. Not only did she murder cultists but with her broken mind she killed many an innocent human being. Such destruction made the temple crumble, those still alive scrambling to escape as the others remained trapped under the rubble.

As she ran to escape she searched for Vein, a man she had grown to care and love after so many years of being together however his fate was not kind to him. Trapped under the rubble he sacrificed himself so that Varla could escape, despite her pleas to try and help him it she was forced to run. She ran as far as her legs could carry her. Her heart in pieces as she had lost another loved one due to her magic she wandered aimlessly, eventually finding the city of Phandalin where she made her home.

Korinn "Kori" Kelmes
Name: Korinn Kelmes (Kori, Kor, or Rin)
Age: 37
Gender: Female
Alignment: Lawful Good
Race: Dragonborn (Green)

Class/Level: Fighter 1
Subclass: n/a
Background: Knight (Noble variant)

A Knight of the Order of the Gauntlet, Korinn was long expected to live up to a long history of tactics and conquests. Raised by nobles, a vicious mother and a tactful father, she was trained vigorously from the age of 3 until she could fight on her own. Soon after she was sent to spar with fellow youths, servants, and warriors. It was a vigorous routine that lasted for many years, and it eventually led to her fall from grace.

When she came of age, she sparred with her mother for the first and last time. Filled with a rage she had never known and an instinctual ferocity at facing the family's alpha, she severely injured her mother. Korinn may have noticed how proud her mother was at her prowess, if she hadn't run away from home. Many years of wandering as a benevolent mercenary led her to find her true calling. The Order of the Gauntlet showed her that her power could be used for the greater good, for society as a whole, and she gladly accepted.

Appearance: With scales of dark copper and faint black, Korinn stands at around 6'6" and weighs in at 240 pounds of lean muscle and biceps. Her upper body is dressed in scars from her childhood and more recent battles, but her smile is still peaceful and wide, and her eyes radiate passivity. Much like a docile mountain with churning magma underneath, Korinn is well versed in the art of diplomatic acts and appearances while maintaining an unmatched strength and versatility. She dresses in fine silk to emanate nobility while kneeling and greeting even the most downtrodden of creatures. Having known the vicious cycle of domination and conquest she seeks to find not only a better life for herself but those around her.
