The Bellicostic Forest

1725570812960.png
Not much is known about the Bellicostic Forest, although it is also known as the Forbidden Forest. It is thick - very thick - with heavy green foliage and evergreen trees of various species. Moss grows on bark and animals scurry through the ferns and flowers that bloom in the spring and summer. It is a beautiful forest in anyone's eyes, but there are secrets within that turn even the bravest or most curious travelers away. Heavy mist constantly curls through the trees, often glowing gold or silver in sunlight or moonlight.

There are only two direct paths into the forest: from the South and from the North. These paths are flat, packed earth; there is nothing fantastical or unique about them. However, the path begins to change about a half mile into the forest. Slowly, packed earth turns into small white stones, then into a solid, smooth, narrow road. A few paces further into the paths, those little white stones, almost like pearls, begin to glow in random patterns. Sometimes they sparkle and blink; other times, they simply outline the road so it's easier to see. Even further into the forest, floating lights appear, and some people report hearing little voices, sparking rumors that they are Willow-The-Whisps trying to goad travelers off the path and into the dense forest.

And then a traveler will find something most curious. From the South, there are two sharp curves, and then the path straightens out once more to reveal what lies ahead. From the North, the path remains only slightly wavy but still leads the traveler into the very same sight: a long, long line of perfectly smooth, mostly spherical crystals and geodes.

These crystals and geodes are each unique and worn smooth over time, save some crystals growing on the surface of some. A few have holes straight through them over countless generations of exposure to the elements, but the crystal formations remain whole and beautiful inside. Others have clear, seemingly polished crystal surfaces, and others still only have cracks or chasms to let a traveler glimpse inside.

But the spherical stones are not alone. No - there is a barrier that comes from them, radiating magic and glowing softly at night. The mist seems thicker there as if it could be cut with a knife, and there is a general sense of rejection, as if it was hovering in the air, as if an audible verbal denial would hover between people.

However, that is all someone remembers when they return from their travels into the Bellicostic Forest - that and the most brutal, extraordinary, heart-pounding terror they have ever felt in their life. With hazy memories of what they had seen (and some swore they heard things as well), travelers warn others away in semi-panicked voices, claiming that what remains behind the border should remain unbothered - that the lands of Trinity Coven should remain unbothered.
