I’m loving this already as I was lurking before I joined! Just grabbed ms. December’s post to use as a template and am going to restructure one of my characters to function in your world because I think they would mesh perfectly!

Damian Linus Abrams, Scion of House Abrams and The Seventeenth Libram.

“As a storyteller, I have the weight of worlds unimaginable at my fingertips, and I will not dishonor them. I will not fail my family like my father before me.”

Basic Profile
Name: Damian Linus Abrams
Age: Damian is about midway through being 18, clearly too young to drink.
Pronouns: He/Him
Type of Magic: Mandate (Feats of Magic powered by the works of literature enshrined in the Karandula, the Abrams family’s generation-bound heirloom.)
Current Status: First-year undergraduate at Celestial University
House: Within the college he finds himself in The Fey Library, a house concerning themselves with the powers of patrons (such as stories themselves) and that of residual or inert magic. Politically, he is a member of his noble house of Abrams.
Origin Realm: Zandara- Your average high-fantasy medieval realm. The Abrams house is in a city called Kendra that they govern and Damian’s second choice of schooling was a direct internship with the Magisterial Lab of Contract, set up by favors owed to his family.
Former Precious Object: A scroll that has Damian’s first ever story on it about a dog named Nina that he brought to life after his grips about wanting but not getting a dog magically empowered the text. He keeps it inside a secret compartment in his satchel.

Aesthetic & Presence
Visual: His beauty is less a physical sort of thing, given he is about average, but there is certainly something to admire about his dogged tenacity and drive to constantly stay ahead of whatever deadline might be creeping up behind him. His skin is fair and his hair is black and his eyes are alert, seeking something, anything, any way to maintain normal.

Aura: The air around him is that of a standard disgruntled and tired college student while simultaneously it is also the air of someone who is oddly cautious, his words and actions manicured to serve a greater purpose than any one interaction.

His demeanor when he thinks he’s alone is a lot less rigid and his true ideals are to become the type of artist worthy of enshrining his will and tale on the day of his death, as all those before him did.

Signature Accessory: His satchel carries the Karandula, which is the source of his powers, so he never goes anywhere without it. If he had to pick an actual clothing item, though, it would probably be a red scarf his mom knitted for him that has runes for warmth.

Magical Abilities

Mana Capacity: 130/130

White Whale:

White Whale, Captain: Damian forms a javelin made of wind that he can throw in any direction. When the attack hits the target it disperses throughout, causing body-wide pain. (-10)

White Whale, Sea: When Damian evokes this tale with the Sea modifier, any darkness around him rushes forward and strikes those in front of him as though they were being hit by a wave from the ocean. Virtually useless on a sunny day. (-10)

The Exiled One:

The Exiled One, Strength: Damian is granted under the effects of this tale enough strength to throw an average human with one hand for about thirty seconds. (-5)

The Exiled One, Godhood: Damian only has the mana to call on this tale once per week, and he falls immediately unconscious afterward. However, for 10 seconds, while he is under the effect, he is both unable to die and impervious to damage or its effect. (-70)

Ikaros:

Ikaros, Ascension: Damian sprouts spectral wings for exactly a minute that he can use to fly around and gain high ground. (-10)

Ikaros, Burning Sun: With a snap of his fingers as a semantic component to activate this part of the tale’s ability, Damian can conjure an explosion of blinding light that does no harm otherwise. If he uses it while using Ascension, however, the wings immediately fade. (-5-10 depending on if he is ascended.)

Dreamworld

Dreamworld, Drink: Damian can use the effect of this tale indefinitely, and makes him shrink to the size of a beetle, rendering him great at infiltration. (-0)

Dreamworld, Food: Damian can only use this side of the tale for a minute, but while he is doing so, he becomes almost twelve feet tall and his strength increases by about two or three times. (-10)

Fair Maiden

Fair Maiden, Mirror: Although it is incredibly taxing to do so, Damian can look for someone anywhere within five miles of himself. Thus far he has managed to stand this procedure for about thirty seconds and has never managed a search farther than two miles. (-25 per mile)

Fair Maiden, Witch: Damian simply becomes immune to poison and cleanses any in his system through magic. His body then goes back to normal and can be poisoned again. (-5)

Endless Night

Endless Night, Spell: By touching someone for about ten seconds while under the effects of this tale, Damian can put them to sleep. The recipient of this magic will feel this process and can try to fight him off. (-15)

Endless Night, Dragonfire: When Damian uses this aspect of the tale, he takes a deep breath in and then exhales a cone of harsh flame. This occurs once, and then his breathing goes back to normal. His throat is usually very dry and sore after uses. (-10)

Mysterious Case (Shame of Family, Half-spoken)

Mysterious Case, Transformation: When under the effects of this tale, which require Damian to know the identity and some information of the person he is trying to shift into, Damian can transform himself into a perfect copy of another person. No saving slip-ups due to lack of information, though, and the effect immediately ends if someone suspects (with good reason) him to be someone else. (-20)

Noiseless Casting: Although Damian usually has to say the aspect of the tale he is drawing from aloud, he can make the process of casting about two times as taxing in exchange for being able to cast the spells by thought as opposed to word.
(-2x Spell Cost)

Academic Focus
Primary Department: Spellcraft and Binding Oaths
Minors: Magical Item Maintenance
Favourite Course: “Modern Magical Literature” and “Art”.
Least Favourite: “Human Physiology in Regards to Magical Combat”

Personality
Temperament: Damian approaches the world with a mask that he thinks he is much better at hiding he is wearing than he is. In truth, he is still quite clearly that kind of guy who melts to the floor and becomes a puddle when he sees a cute dog or beautiful landscape.
Quirks:

Sings to himself, and enjoys songs in foreign languages for their melodies despite utterly butchering the actual words.

Sometimes says sorry a lot, even for things that don’t require an apology.

Flaws:

He is unsure what to do with his life beyond the end goal of looking for a new story to add for the next generation to use.

He is a bit more competitive than he has to be when it comes to participating in class. He also sometimes jumps the gun (reading ahead, etc.) if he feels things are getting too slow.

Narrative Hooks
Life Goals: Damian wants to find his story to add to the book here at the Celestial Academy.

Perfectionism: Damian is the son of the person who only managed to fit half of a story in the Karandula and has spent so many years hearing of his father’s failure that it has turned him into a person desperate for results who suffers due to his own rigidity.

Faculty Interest: One of his Magical Combat professors showed great interest in the Karandula and Damian does not quite trust their intentions to be peaceful ones.

So, this is my character sheet. I hope it's good enough, cause I do wanna have that group RP experience.

Jayhe Temyrheon, Bastard son of the court of Lumnos. And Halfling reject.

They may hunt me across a dozen realms, if they wish. But I will not yield. My blood is my solace. And honor, my identity”

Standard Profile
Name: Jayhe Temyrheon

Age: 22 years of age, with the potential to surpass more than eighty mortal years.

Gender: Male (He/Him)

Race: Halfling. He is half human from his mother's side and half High Fae from his fathers'.

Type of Magic: Mana (Faerie based energy known as Carranam, powered by willpower)

Current Status: First year student at Celestial University.

House: The Mystic Dome - A house of exploration, reverence and the discovery of lost lineages. Keepers of Arcane genealogy.

Realm of Origin: Londriehl. Ancestral home of the Fae, especially Roewayn which is the shifting lands of the Highborn Fae.

Special object: A relic of defense from his childhood which his mother used to protect him. A customized, long staff made of Fae steel with traditional markings along it's length. He barely uses it.

Appearance
Physical appearance: His looks are mostly human to say the least, but there's a certain refined quality to him that hints at his high Fae heritage. With a height of about 5 ft 10, piercing silver blue eyes, side parted wavy chestnut brown hair, olive toned skin and a carved face and athletic body, he still manages to go unnoticed in any crowd. His ears are moderately arched to a delicate point and he can materialize or
melt away his insectoid wings.

Presence: His presence is nothing particularly special and he tends to carry himself with an underlying tension and alert carefulness that suggests a troubled past, spent in hiding. But on his good days, he tends to mind his business and still retain some casual poise.

Signature accessory: A bronze colored, slightly rippling mesh fabric, named Ailên that's made out of otherworldly materials, which he always wraps around the inside of his belt and around his waist. It's a semi sentient mesh that can expand to cover him in a body fitting garb, from neck to feet and it can still retract back into a waist chord. It's a highly durable type of flexible, lightweight armor which slips over his body rapidly like a second skin or article of clothing, once commanded. It can withstand most forms of conventional damage, but has little resistance to magical attacks.

Magical abilities
Fae Bound Senses: Heightened sight and an acute range of hearing. Usually Jayhe requires some amount of focus to see distant objects or hear faraway or faint sounds but sometimes his senses surge on instinct or reflex, based on the energy thrumming within his blood.

Carranam powered physiology: As a High born Fae, with the aid of Carranam energy which runs extra strong in the blood of royals, Jayhe's physiology grants him certain physical attributes such as superhuman strength (he can toss a carriage), flight speed (this comes from using his wings and boosting his aerial speed through Carranam, inhuman stamina (he can hold out in a stressful or fatigue inducing situation for longer periods of time before getting tired), accelerated healing factor (this is a result of the Carranam in his veins) and quick reflexes.

Radiant Constructs: Like other royal members of the High born Fae within the Court of Lumnos, Jayhe can channel and control light. But due to his halfling state, he cannot project it as pure beams of light or really manipulate light outright. Instead, with the aid of his Carranam energy, he can manifest radiant energy in the form of solid glowing constructs of almost any size and shape. His constructs include any type of object from a sword or hammer to a wall, a net or lines of rope. But the effectiveness of his constructs are limited by his willpower and Mana reserves.

Academic Focus
Primary Department: Magizoology
Minors: Planar studies and Wardcraft
Favorite Course: Applied Druidic Combat
Least Favorite: Transmutation and Alchemy

Personality
Character:
Jayhe is the calm and observant type who likes to pretend like he's minding his business, but inside him lies an ever burning curiosity and a tendency to make lasting bonds with the right sort of people. His emotions may run high at times, but he's respectful, loyal, supportive and tries to understand others.

Quirks
• He is stubborn and unyielding, especially when he senses that something isn't right.
• He tends to overthink at times when it comes to awkward or mysterious actions from others around him.
• He stargazes from time to time and likes watching the sunset and sunrise.

Flaws
• He struggles to trust others with personal or sensitive matters, due to his unpleasant childhood and the brutality of people.
• Can get easily distracted sometimes which could be potentially dangerous during sensitive situations.
• He sometimes gets overwhelming feelings of sadness or despair when things get really tough.

Narrative Hooks
Haunted by the Past: Despite wanting to start a new life at the academy, Jayhe is still being stalked….. followed by a stranger from his realm who wants….. something.
Dark Desire: For a Fae Halfling with an affinity for light, Jayhe has a contrasting dark yearning for vengeance against those who killed his mother.
Faculty Interest: In almost every class being held by this professor, he claims that he sees Jayhe's potential and so he always pushes him to his limit, giving him challenges that might be hard enough to make the young Fae snap.
The Hierarchy: Jayhe's friendly and curious nature might just get him tossed into the wrong social circle or pulled into a problem bigger than he can handle. Especially since he wishes to remain in the background.

- Well, it’s been quite sometime since I’ve seen a thorough group layout Roleplay like this..very impressive! Dispatch. I do have a question characters that are created I.E species if we do half breeds or hybrids is there a limitation on what can be permitted?

For instance I’ve seen Two different God’s from Olympus being mixed to create a child, an angel and Saint and even a powerful half orc half mortal breed. ( all which were quite impressive in my view.) is there a line or limitation to creation of characters at all?

I think that the Celestial University might need some "laws".
"Accidental Death" happens ( Gangster: "Make it look like an accident." ).
Maybe something like, "As the University values and encourages the acquiring of new knowledge, appropriate consequences shall be dealt to those that intentionally kill, cause 'brain-death' and/or the destruction of the soul(s) of of a fellow student ( or multiple students )."

Uhm, Yeah sure. My halfing character might be interested. D'you have any ideas in mind ?
Have Dorm allocations even began ?

I'm imagining dorm room allocations and room mates will be player driven.

Having a class or two in common, and therefore similar assignments and possible field trips together.
Pledging the same fraternity.
Gemaak is cash-poor ( someday he will 'buy off' that disadvantage ), so Jayhe could possibly be able to hire Gemaak to perform some service or minor quest.

That makes sense.

Yeah, that means that they'd interact a lot and have each other's backs. Navigating a new academic environment that's literally the hub for all fantasy life forms from across various realms can be overwhelming.

Alright, perhaps Jayhe needs some help in a certain field and he enlists Gemaak's help for a price. Then again, Jayhe is kinda the sharing type.

Basic Profile

Name: Lydia Valeria
• Age: 18
• Pronouns: She/Her
• Type of Magic: Mana (passed down through Elvish heritage)
• Current Status: First-year undergraduate at Celestial University
• House: Communion, a house dedicated to the study of all things connected to the Realms of Spirits
• Origin Realm: Nimbus, the country of Shallendor (high fantasy world of humans, elves, monsters, etc)
• Family Heirloom: a silver cat medallion she wears around her neck at all times. The jewellery is enchanted to occasionally bring its bearer luck in situations of chance.

Appearance

The first thing people notice about Lydia is the shock of red hair that borders her face like a bonfire, and cascades half way down her back. The face it frames is an attractive one, mainly due to it's open, honest green eyes, and a generous mouth that always seems to be on the verge of laughter. Lydia stands at 5"7, and has the healthy tan and physique of someone who is used to being outside and on the move. She dresses practically, opting for functional shirts, boots and breeches. She has a fondness for wearing green.

Magical Abilities

Major Spells

-Raise Dead: turn humanoid-sized corpses into zombies, capable of fulfilling simple requests of the summoner. (limit of 3)
-Speak With Dead: communicate with the recently deceased (once per day)
-Miasma: releases a cloud of black vapour which damages health and saps strength (once per day)

Minor Spells

- Grave Graze (a short beam of necrotic energy)
-Basic Barrier (functions as light armour)
-Draining Touch (absorb life energy to heal injury)
-Conjure familiar (namely Barnabus, her crow)
-Bound Blade (conjures a thin blade of dark magic)

Academic Focus
• Primary Department: Necromancy
• Minors: Conjuration, Evocation

Personality
• An unapologetic cinnamon roll despite the grim nature of the magic she wields. Lydia is a warm hearted and friendly individual, with a particular soft spot for people who feel like they're misunderstood. She has a sense of humour, and a mischievous streak. The only thing greater is her insatiable curiosity for magical experimentation.

Narrative Hooks
  • Obsessed with the prospect of one day raising a dragon from the dead.
  • Necromancy is a field which shambles hand-in-hand with field trips. If there's a chance a dead body is going to show up, there's a chance Lydia will show up.
  • Any scenario involving a magical experiment of some kind. If she isn't actively involved, she will be there, encouraging it.

Personal History

Lydia was born on Nimbus a few years after The Black Thread War. A tumultuous period of history which left much of the country of Shallendor in ruins. In the aftermath, the gap in labour shortage was filled by Mages proficient in the art of Necromancy, who summoned the dead to sew crops, and repair the countrys broken walls. The action proved so successful that a portion of the economy continues on 'Dead Labour'.
As the daughter of a minor Elven noble, Lydia was afforded the proper tuition to learn the craft, and proved to be a natural. Her invitation to the University came, fittingly enough, by delivery of an animated skeleton riding an equally skeletal horse. Lydia was delighted at the offer to expand her arcane knowledge, and accepted.

Will expand upon later. It's late, I just wanted to get something posted before bed.

😀 oh shit that’s a lot of you huh

Awesome, I’m really glad to see everyone’s characters and interest! Although I am now regretting not giving everyone a defined character sheet and the full layout of magical domains from the start… 😅 Well, we’ll burn that bridge when we get to it.

Plan of attack on my end is to finish up a few basic ground rules, introduce some crucial lore, and introduce standardized character sheets (in that order, more or less) before going through everyone’s characters, with an ETA some time this week. Nothing insane has popped out at me though so I think you all are good to keep planning while I work on it.

In the meantime, I did catch a few questions that I have ready answers for:

- Well, it’s been quite sometime since I’ve seen a thorough group layout Roleplay like this..very impressive! Dispatch. I do have a question characters that are created I.E species if we do half breeds or hybrids is there a limitation on what can be permitted?

Hmm… I’m gonna go ahead and simply say that there is no limit on what you can do in terms of species/origin. I was actually quite prepared for demigods and the like to be showing up—they use a specific domain of magic that I will elaborate on—so as long as they keep to reasonable power levels, y’all are mostly free to do whatever you like.

That said, I would caution against making your OC God’s Specialist Little Boy too insane or special or powerful—you are going to be a student/professor/civilian after all, and a certain level of equality (for lack of a better term) is expected.

I'm looking for a new fantasy rpg, and this one looks legit. I'm toying with an idea for a cinnamon roll personality, high elf with a penchant for raising the dead.

Where do you stand on necromancy?

Necromancy is, in universe, arguably the most controversial form of magic there is. A decent number of people think it’s straight up evil, unnatural, etc., and most of the rest are at least deeply uncomfortable with it. It doesn’t help that the magic itself kind of implies this by the way it works—it is extremely finicky, difficult, and dangerous, short-circuiting and not playing well with other sorts of magic. Current theory is that this due to a sort of “existential power interference”—whatever it takes to draw fragments of a lost soul from across the Veil, the rest of the structure of the universe really doesn’t seem to like. Opinions on the magic itself range wildly, from “Necromancy is a useful, even sacred art,” to “All practitioners of necromancy should be hunted down”.

All that being said, necromancy is indeed a valid field of study at the University, which provides a (perhaps the only) safe space to practice it with minimal risk or persecution for the moment: it will play a role in the main plot. Classes are held in the Crypts of the First Scholars, beneath the main campus. You’re more than welcome to sign up… Just know what you’re getting into before you walk in.

Hmmm… You know what, that is a VERY good point. I hadn’t come up with a formal plan for responding to crimes done by University students or faculty on their ground.

The rules themselves can be discussed later and will be fairly lenient (don’t kill, assault, or steal from people, basically), but as for the system itself, I think we can handle this a few ways:

1. Things are resolved informally, by the faculty or by faculty-mediated negotiations between those involved,

2. The University basically can choose to expel you at the very worst, potentially holding you prisoner temporarily until they can extradite you back to where you came from for justice there in the event of a very serious crime,

3. CU—being functionally a microstate—has its own judicial system and means of punishment for things that happen on University grounds of regarding University business.

Personally I’m leaning towards 2… 1 would be awkward and 3 would be fun but way too involved I think… But what say you all? Do you have any other ideas?

Have Dorm allocations even began ?
I'm imagining dorm room allocations and room mates will be player driven.

Double Plus is correct here. By tradition, everyone is assigned a roommate for at least their first two years, but the dormitories actually exist in a separate dimension so there’s enough space for everyone to have their own room if they request it. Plenty of people opt for solo rooms.

Worth mentioning that dormitories are co-ed, as are roommate selections. Any gender can bunk with any other, so long as both are okay with it.

Co-ed is cool by me, but same sex room mates generally don't have to worry about pregnancies.
