Hello everyone! I am putting myself out there again.

About me

I am an amateur writer in my 60s, avid consumer of urban fantasy, magical realism, crime/police procedurals, and supernatural MxM romance.

Some of my favourite authors, roughly in order of discovery: JRR Tolkien, Ursula LeGuin, Dorothy Sayers, Guy Gavriel Kay, Naguib Mahfouz.

More recently: Nathan Burgoine, William Gibson, Neal Stephenson, Neil Gaiman, China Miéville, TJ Klune, Naomi Novik, Freya Marske, Katharine Arden, KD Edwards, Gregory Ashe, KJ Charles, Jordan Hawk, Charlie Adhara.

After cyberpunk and steampunk, just now discovering hopepunk.

On the romance side: Alexis Hall, Casey McQuiston, CS Poe.

Some things about my writing

I prefer psychologically layered characters whose identities are shaped by tension—between duty and desire, power and restraint, belonging and exile. Exploring those tensions together is often where the best story moments emerge.

I gravitate toward richly imagined worlds where magic, culture, crime, and spiritual forces are not just background elements but formative pressures on the soul. I have learned that my storytelling instinct centers on moral complexity, emotional stakes, and worldbuilding that serves character.

My romance writing is MxM and fade to black - I care more about the relationship than the sex. I don't mind writing violence, so long as it is relevant to advancing the story and does not entail over the top gore; but a good fight scene can be really fun to write. I'm looking for writing partners into any of the above genres, of course, but I am open to other themes or genres to stretch myself a bit. I tend not to plan out a full story arc ahead of time, though the world building phase of a conversation is something I enjoy.

I'm trained as a historian of spirituality and culture, so themes like these may find their way into my posts.

Finally, in a partnership writing setup I tend to write blocks of roughly 500 to 900 words, though I am able to do more or less as required by the story. I will check in likely daily, but may not write more than once or twice a week (work and life et cetera), always keeping my writing partner updated.

I am a highly adaptable writing partner. If something is not working, tell me: pacing, post length, world building, anything at all. But please tell me; communication is very important to me.

And then something about stories and characters

I have a few characters looking for the right story - and the right partner to bring them to life: Character(s) - Gideon's Characters

In addition to the werewolf-witch story, I'm wondering about trying my hand at a high fantasy story with my paladin character, or maybe a film noir inspired story with my half-elf detective.

So that’s me and the stories I’m hoping to tell—perhaps with some of you. I look forward to hearing from you.
