White Castle is the greatest school in the world, for both magical and mundane studying. It has been in operation for hundreds of years and is a household name even the least informed would know. This year Headmaster Solice has issued a new mandate. In interest of inclusion, 700 students handpicked by the teachers of White Castle itself will be admitted to the institute on a full ride scholarship. 8 full years of free education at the best university in the world. This has lead to a number of changes in school function. And even more backlash from parents and investors alike. But most important of all concerning this mandate is that the school has opened it's doors to not just the wealthy and aristocratic, but also the gifted and hardworking. This is a once in a lifetime chance presenting itself, and you won't let it slip you by.
The world is high fantasy, with hints of modern culture. Magic and Machinery blend heavily in this world. With it having standard power lines and light fixtures, but also having fantastical contraptions performing the same purpose with Magic in other cities. Humans and Elves have coexisted for millennia in this world of Dragons, Giants, Hydra, and the like. Harmonizing and evolving slowly to survive the natural horrors of a magic and monster infested world. (PM if interested or if you have questions.)

MAGIC SYSTEM
The Core - The Core is an organ opposite the heart in a person's chest. It is about the size of an eyeball and houses and stores all forms of magic for the user. Everyone has one. It is the cup that stores the Magic flowing in the atmosphere.
Heat - A byproduct of using Magic. Nothing is created or destroyed and Energy Loss will always be in effect as magic is used. Said Heat always forms in the Core as a waste byproduct. The amount of Heat generated depends on the skill of the Mage and the level of difficult in their task. Ranging from at best, the body raising a few degrees, to at worst, Spontaneous Combustion. Heat is the constant worry of the Mage, though the cleaver mage can turn Heat to their advantage.
Inertia - The Magic ability to transfer force from something to another instantly. Examples being: A boxer transferring all the inertia in their moving body into the swing of their punch, launching their arm forward with explosive force while also stopping the rest of their body dead in its tracks. Or a great mage stepping in front of a speeding train to save a child, with the wave of their hand, all of the Inertia in that train is transferred to the Core of the mage. And stopping the train dead in it's tracks.
Memory - The ability to revert something to a previous state of being. Examples being: A recently dropped and broken vase being restored whole by the mage's Memory of it being whole in the past. Or a person reverting their physical appearance to the prime of their youth constantly, to remain physically youthful indefinitely.
Conduction - The ability to transfer heat to electricity and vice versa. Examples being: Drawing electricity from batteries to use as Heat for the body in freezing weather. Using Heat stored in the Core to fire lightening from their fingertips. Catching a bolt of natural lightening and converting the electricity into a fireball.
Enhancement - The ability to magically improve a physical/mental trait of the body consciously. Examples being: A man bending solid steel rods with his hands. Falling from multiple stories of height without injury. Working/living without sleep for weeks straight with little to no detriment. Perceiving the world at an accelerated rate, increasing reaction time to insane levels.
Clairvoyance - The ability to magically improve the subconscious to perform mystical feats without conscious thought or effort. Unlike the other schools, Clairvoyance does not require constant focus to activate. In fact this school of Magic is unique in that it functions involuntarily. Heat is still generated as a byproduct. Examples being: Knowing someone is following you with no clear evidence. Having a premonition. Enhanced proprioception. Having a vision of the future.

ROLES (6 total)
Teacher
Traveling with their apprentice, Teacher has been tasked with traveling abroad to find willing students to return with him to White Castle. Near the end of his circuit he decides to stop at one last town before heading back. It's here he find an assortment of hopeful mages to be with huge potential. Word travels faster than hooves and the group knew he'd arrive, all the way down to the day he'd arrive. Seeing their potential he takes the four with him back to White Castle. They even end up being in his class. (role filled)
The Intern
Recently graduated after 8 years of school at White Castle. The Intern asked to study under one of their old teachers. Their motivations their own, they were fortunately accepted for the position. They travel with Teacher as a helping hand, carrying their own weight in work. They are an opportunist, ready to take whatever comes their way. Ambitious and skilled as they are, are they invested in the teaching of the students wholeheartedly? Or is this just another stepping stone in their career? Even Teacher cannot tell. (role filled)
The Prodigy
Unusually gifted in magic. The Prodigy student of the group always seems to be a bit ahead of the others overall. Is it hard work? Natural skill? Why are they so invested in magic? Other trades and professions are just as prestigious, so why? Whatever drives them, everyone can tell that reason or goal is very important to who they are and why they strive to excel. The effect on their psyche is subtle, and they're not the easiest to get along with. All of which would be fine but with their rapid growth and attitude. Just how far will they go for power...? When is enough enough? (role filled)
Troublemaker
Hands are twitching again. Can't get their mind off it. They need to play a prank, tell a joke, steal something, anything! Being an attention seeker isn't considered a good trait to have by anyone really, but who cares? Everyone is used to it by now anyways. Benign and malicious. Oblivious but also hilarious, they're the life of the party. Overall, they seem pretty basic on the cover, most people write them off. But what are they like when you really get to know them? What are they like when you read between the lines? (role filled)
Clairvoyant
They were always called sensitive. Weird. Even a freak when others thought the Clairvoyant couldn't hear. But those same people were the first to ask. "How will my crops do next season?" "Do you think she loves me or am i reading into it too hard?" Those people asked. And the Clairvoyant answered. Always. This gift is more than a gut feeling or a hunch, it's something more. Deeper and unknown. Will this school actually hold the answers to the questions the Clairvoyant holds in themself? (role filled)
The Glue
The one that binds others to a common purpose. They may be introverted or extroverted, but when all bets are down they have the presense to ensure everything gets done. They are the closest to a Mary Sue as the RP will have. They make sure everyone is heard, issues are resolved, and each person is given an appropriate task. They are not perfect in every way, in fact they're no more skilled in Magic than any of the other students. And yet what they add is something more precious. When supervision is unavailable, and everything looks bleek, the students in the group usually look to The Glue for direction. Can they handle that level of expectation? Or will it eventually be too much? (role filled)

RULES
1 - All site rules apply.
2 - Use common sense please.
3 - Have fun.
4 - Use spoilers for explicit sex, walls of text, images, unsettling scenes, etc. Please use spoilers.
5 - Pace yourself. We don't need your entire backstory in novella format the first 3 posts of the RP. Some of us have day jobs, think of the amount of content you're adding, is it too much or too little for your fellow RPers. This is a RP for literate and passionate writers who are creating three dimensional characters with interesting backstories/development. If this doesn't fit you please move on.
6 - One or two sentence replies are not tolerated. Add to the setting please. Exception to this rule being, short replies for the flow of dialogue between characters.
7 - No killing/maiming/hurting another RPers character without their consent. If in battle, you must let the other RPer choose to accept or avoid an attack.
8 - Post a few times a day. If you need to take a break let us know and be transparent in OOC chat or PM. If you're going to be off for a while, eating, sleeping, etc. Make sure your character isn't currently inconveniencing others. Example being: In a conversation with another RPers character and locking them in place waiting for a reply.
9 - This RP will have 'cutscenes'. Moments where the narrative will be pushed forward by myself to keep the RP refreshing and/or to speed up a long scene or scenario. The group will know well in advance if i plan on using one of these. We don't want to be in the starting town for 3 weeks of RP.
10 - Do for others what you'd like for yourself. Example being: My character taking the bait provided and asking about YOUR character's backstory. If you want someone to take interest in your character's anything, be nice and show interest in theirs.
