After all of the participation Sanctum experienced during our Ink & Ember event in November, I wanted to thank everyone for a successful first attempt. We hope to repeat this next year as well. Ink & Ember reminded us that whether it's for professional purposes or to indulge in our hobbies, many of us are aspiring authors in our own way. Although the event is over, there are still ways to be there for one another and get the help and support we found during the that time, and it can be found in the Wishing Well.

What is the Wishing Well?

The Wishing Well is a section located in The Scriptorium, where users are able to reach out to other members for advice in a safe space. There, the writing is subject to analysis and assessment, not the writer. But the Wishing Well could use some attention, the coins are running low and the water needs a good skimming. Are you up to the task?

As an incentive for more participation and activity in the Wishing Well, we have two new badges made by @Jumbled. A coin for those brave enough to ask for help, and a wishing well as a thank you to those that are kind enough to offer their insight.

What do the prefixes mean?

Here are the 4 prefixes available to choose from in the Wishing Well and what they're used for

• Critique: Asking for general critiques
• Editing: Looking for help with editing, flow and sentence structure.
• Penny: Thoughts or suggestions with brainstorming and world-building
• Wish: For our shy members wanting aid provided via private messaging

What can you post in the Wishing Well?

For those seeking help

A sample of your writing:

• Try to keep the sample a reasonable length for those helping you. You may use the same thread to post more passages you'd like critiqued as needed.

A direct link to a post:

• Use the button to copy a link directly from the post in question. Links must be from our site unless approved by and admin.

Links to a solo story:

• Follow the above instructions to provide a link to a story you've written alone. Do not ask for critiquing on work that is not your own.

For those here to help

Critique:

• Give suggestions to the original poster on how to improve, and explain any issues found in the writing.

Editing:

• Help fix the post, ideally explaining what went wrong and how to avoid it.

Thoughts and Feedback:

• Provide ideas on how to better establish the user's world without expectations that they make the suggested changes.

Private Messaging:

• Let the original poster know that you intend to reach out privately if their thread is tagged with the "wish" prefix (doing so will help ensure badge delivery). All site rules still apply regarding these messages.

This has definitely been an announcement written by James that he put a lot of effort into and not me stealing valour from a Mermaid and a colour Wizard.
