Creatures of Irish Myth
Tuatha De Danann: Supernatural race of heavily spiritual beings.
Abhartach: he is an evil tyrant who had been killed and buried upside down after he had been terrorizing his people. He brought himself back to life with his magical powers to seek revenge and to drink the blood of his victims (vampire-like). The only way to stop the Abhartach is to repeat what had been done to him before: kill him and bury him upside down.
Aibell: the creature was considered a guardian over the powerful Irish mortal clan, the Dál gCais.
Aos Sí: This is the collective term for the supernatural fairy race in Ireland. They're generally said to live in fairy mounds and frequent enchanting woodlands.
Bánánach: the bánánach are otherworldly beings that haunted battlefields.
Banshee: a female spirit dressed in a white cloak that heralds the death of a family member by wailing at nightfall. They are a creature that symbolizes death. A banshee or a 'bean sidhe' (fairy woman) was the name given to 'keeners' who were women who sang at people's funerals. It was thought that they could be mythological creatures, due to their beautiful singing voice.
Bodach: Boogeyman
Caoránach: the mother of demons and deathly spirits.
Cat sìth: fairy creature said to often resemble a black cat.
Changeling: is a creature that replaces human babies to terrorize parents. They're thought to be deformed fairy babies that are swapped with a human baby by their fairy parents. This is because fairies are known for being obsessed with beauty, so they will steal a human baby in order to have a beautiful child. Changelings thrive on bringing destruction to their human parents and feed off good fortune. We aren't certain where this story originates from, however, many think that the story of changelings was used as an explanation for particularly difficult babies.
Clíodhna: the Queen of the Banshees. In some tales, she is also the goddess of love and beauty.
Clurichaun: is a mischievous fairy. In tales, he tends to enjoy alcohol a bit too much and is often depicted as heisting breweries in search of liquor!
Crom Cruach: Prior to Christianity in Ireland, Crom Cruach was, according to ancient Irish folklore, a god.
Cù-sìth: ghostly hound of massive size. It roams mostly around the holy mounds and stone circles on foggy nights. It is a harbinger of impending death, it emits three terrifying howls before it begins its hunt. Those who do not find shelter before the third howl will risk having their souls dragged away to the otherworld.
Daoine maithe: This is a collective term used to describe fairies in Ireland. Daoine maithe means "good people".
Dobhar-chú: half-dog, half-otter is a land- and water-dwelling creature that feasts on human flesh.
Donn Cúailnge: a bull
Dullahan: headless mythic creature.
