Appearance
As a human, Riona is on the small side of things, with a curling mass of red hair and blue-gray colored eyes. Her skin is a medium-light color from her time spent in the sun, though with a hint of pink undertones. She has a smattering of freckles across her face and body, though only the ones on her face are always seen. She is slim with a slightly round face and long, dark lashes. Her ears are slightly pointed, though they are always hidden underneath her hair and not easily noticeable.
In-between, Riona gains a few inches in height. Blue scales appear on her face around her eyes and down her nose, her shoulders and her hands, as well as her legs below her knees to her feet. More scales appear down her spine, ending in a tail. Claws extend from her fingers and toes while dark horns appear from her hair and curl back over her head. Her eyes become more silver in color while her pupils become narrowed slits. Sharp teeth form, giving her an almost animalistic look. She can only take this form in extreme situations, when she is feeling the most threatened. It leaves her drained and powerless for a time.
Powers and Abilities
Telepathy (Fae/Dragon)- power to receive and transmit information with one's mind. It's something that the twins have used extensively over the years, when they don't want anyone else to hear their conversation. It's private and allows them to share information with one another quickly. Images, sounds, and conversations: all things that the twins can share.
Healing (Fae/Dragon)- power to heal others as well as self. Riona is able to heal minor and some major injuries, as well as some illnesses. However, long-term illnesses (such as diabetes and cancer) cannot be healed. Nor can she regrow a limb or organ. Those are just beyond her scope of capabilities.
Enhanced Senses (Fae/Dragon)- to possess extremely accurate senses. Smell, sight, and hearing are the three senses that are enhanced for Riona, due to her being both Fae and Dragon
Elemental (Fae)- to manipulate and control one of the four elements (earth, fire, water, air). For Riona, she has control of water and fire: two elements that are on opposite sides of one another. However, they work well together for her and she has had no issues with either one.
Precognition (Dragon)- to perceive the future. Visions come to Riona at odd times and cannot be predicted. To some, she would be known as a Seer, though with Dragons, it's a different name, depending on the clan.
Luck (Unknown)- supernatural power to be constantly lucky. Not something that Riona is acutely aware of. It just happens and isn't something that she controls. But she's noticed things: when she's on jobs and she's close to being caught, something prevents it from happening. And she knows that she isn't always going to have it. That at some point, it will run out.
Personality
Riona is still fairly young – when compared to others that are long lived – and it shows in how she behaves sometimes. She is a bright and cheerful young woman who often brightens up any room she enters. Though she puts on a front of not letting things get to her, she only lets it out in front of her brother and uncle, trusting them more than anyone. She is often snarky and sarcastic, a trait that she's picked up over the years from others.
She has a fondness for children, often volunteering at a local orphanage and even helping out with the younger students. She has an infinite amount of patience when it comes to younger people, which is a plus. That same patience, however, doesn't always extend to adults and – if pushed – she tends to be a little short and snippy with her responses.
Riona is a people pleaser, often to the point of being detrimental to her own interests: a martyr complex, if you will. She will put herself in danger to keep others safe, even if another way is presented. She will put her own happiness and wants aside in order to make someone else happy. She often sees putting her own happiness above the happiness of others as selfish, even if it's in the best interest.
Underneath it all, she is a determined, thoughtful, intelligent, and very stubborn young woman who isn't quite sure where she fits in the world.
Likes: reading (mostly history, romance, and whatever else she gets her hands on) – music (playing and listening) – dancing – singing – coffee/hot chocolate/tea – cupcakes/muffins – strawberries/cherries – savory/spicy foods – the smell of fresh brewed coffee – cooking/baking – gardening – soft, fluffy things (blankets, pillows, stuffed animals) – animals in general – older men (10+ years) – dark hair and dark eyes – being treated with respect – being taken seriously – being listened to – tactile contact (little touches, hugs, etc.) – spending time with her brother/friends
Dislikes: weak tea/bitter coffee – bland/tasteless foods – dark, enclosed spaces –sour smells – hard/rough surfaces – strong/overpowering smells – melons of any kind – overly loud/obnoxious sounds – being treated as if she's slow – being ignored – being looked down on – being stared at (for no reason) – being laid up for any reason – being separate from her brother/friends – rudeness
Financial Status: Relatively comfortable, almost wealthy (in human terms); both she and Rowan have a savings account that their mother set up years ago, though they can't actively access it. What money they currently have is from their actual work, outside of the "jobs" that Talon has them do. It's enough to keep them comfortable, at least for the time being.
Sexual Attitude: Virginal with some knowledge. Sex was never a taboo subject among Talon's people and while she had initially been uncomfortable in the beginning, she has become a little more comfortable with talking about it. However, she is still easily flustered, given that she has no experience (no boyfriends growing up and no sexual partners)
Use of Drugs: None
Reputation: Anomaly. Her and Rowan are both something unique, something that has never been seen before. No one is quite sure what to make of them and no one is quite sure what they will become, later on.
Criminal Status: Might have a record, but she's never been caught doing anything. All the same, the police do keep a close eye on her, just in case.
Highest Education Level Achieved: Graduated high school
Occupation: Assistant dance instructor
Hobbies: Gardening – reading – dancing – cooking/baking (especially baking) – playing the piano/violin
Languages & Dialects Spoken: English (American), Fae (Seelie), Japanese (a small bit), French (little bits), Spanish (little bits)
Talents/Skills: Green thumb (can make even the most stubborn plants grow), cooking/baking, sewing
History
Peace between the Fae of the Seelie Court and the various Dragon clans was always tenuous, at best. Anything could tip that balance, upsetting both sides and causing an irreparable rift between the two sides. It was a careful balance that needed to be kept, in order to keep the peace between the two races. Unfortunate that such a balance could be disturbed by little things.
Oberon Avalone had been born into a great position of power: he was the favored son of the former Seelie Queen and chosen as the heir, over his brother. He wasn't spoiled nor did he see his brother as any sort of competition, despite the former Queen's attempts. The brothers received the same education, but they never received the same attention from their mother and others: Oberon was the chosen heir and Tobrin was nothing more than just a spare, if something should happen to Oberon.
The pair grew up together, with the former Queen making attempts to divide them. Eventually, though, the favoritism grated on Tobrin's nerves. He started to pull away from Oberon more and more, throwing himself into his own studies of magic. He took lessons from other Fae who were willing to teach him and – in his spare time – he studied in the library. Oberon was the first one to discover what his brother had found: old magic that had been forgotten and should have been left alone. He begged Tobrin to leave it, but his brother was too stubborn to listen.
A curse bounced back and nearly killed Tobrin. Instead, he was left blinded and in a feverish daze that lasted for weeks. Despite the former Queen whispering words in Oberon's ear, he remained at his brother's side as he rested, tossing and turning in his sleep and crying out for acceptance from their mother. Oberon only left his brother's side once, but it was enough: the former Queen cast a spell – a curse, more like – that would prevent Tobrin from having children of his own. It was to protect Oberon's line, but it would cause a lasting bitterness for the man.
It was Oberon's idea to grant Tobrin a title. Not one to placate him, though it was how the former Queen put it, but a title that fit him. Sorcerer: it was a title that no other held and one that only Tobrin would keep. It was a title that he accepted without question and made into his own. Oberon was proud of his brother for that.
With the passing of the Seelie Queen, Oberon took the throne and married a Seelie noble that she had chosen for him: Aine. The two of them fell in love with each other in their younger days, but with their marriage, that love blossomed. And wilted until nothing more was left. Aine may have loved Oberon at the start, but her love was bitter. Cold. Unfeeling. It became something else: twisted and corrupt, though they put on a show of being deeply in love. Only Tobrin knew the truth and he never judged his brother.
When the Kanamaru clan reached out for a possible alliance and a treaty, Oberon was interested, if only because he had little interactions with the various Dragon clans. The twin brothers that had left their own clan to start anew were friends, but they were the only clan that the Seelie court had ties with. Another clan would have been welcoming.
When Oberon met Suki for the first time, however, he knew that this wouldn't just be an alliance for their people. It would be something else.
Mizushima Suki was the eldest daughter of her family and would eventually be the leader of her clan. She was a clever woman of the Kanamaru clan who served as a diplomat to various clans within Japan. She had made many friends over the years and held a reputation for being fair and just. Her first meeting with the Seelie court was strained, if only because the nobles had no idea how to address her.
Her first meeting with the Seelie King, however, was different. The pair seemed to hit it off right away, despite the struggles along the way. Eventually, they found excuses to meet with one another, finding a sort of peace in each other's company. Neither one could say who fell first: Oberon or Suki. But the pair did fall in love, though there was some guilt on Oberon's side. After all, he was married. However, he couldn't deny his attraction to Suki and she couldn't deny her feelings for the Seelie King.
For years, they met in secret, though Tobrin was well aware of what was going on. He never judged his brother, but he advised caution, just in case. Caution that was appreciated but not needed. They had five years before Suki gave Tobrin the news that she was pregnant with Oberon's child. No one knew what would happen, however, with a child that was born of a Fae and a Dragon. Not even Tobrin knew, but he kept Suki's secret, as she didn't want to tell Oberon. Not right away, at least.
Around this time, she traveled from her home in Japan to a safe refuge in a little city known as Lake Lorelei. The twin brothers had settled there and welcomed her as a friend and sister. Still, she didn't tell Oberon, as his affair had been discovered and Aine had extracted a promise from him. Only Tobrin knew where she was and only Tobrin was on hand when she gave birth.
Suki didn't give birth to one child, but a set of twins: something that was rare among Dragons and Fae, alike. Rowan was the first born with Riona just behind him a few minutes later. The pair were blessed by their uncle and named for two legendary figures in Fae history. Suki then gave them two more names, from her own family and her clan, recognizing them as possible heirs to her line.
The moment Oberon discovered he had children, he ordered that his son would be his heir and his daughter would be recognized as a princess of the blood. His promise to Aine – who had known about the pregnancy – was forgotten as he made time to visit his new family as much as possible. Those were happy days, for sure.
The twins, however, had little time with their mother: at the age of five, they were left alone while Suki was drawn out by Emissaries of the Divine and executed along with a few others from her clan. Tobrin and Oberon had returned to the Fae lands to deal with a new threat, thinking that the three of them were safe. The pair were discovered by a man named Corbyn Teague, who adopted the pair and gave them a new home, as well as new names.
Corbyn only knew the pair to be Fae: he never realized that their other parent was Dragon and neither of the twins said as much. He presented them to Talon as a possible repayment of his debt, which Talon accepted. The pair remained with Corbyn, however, and were given many opportunities for their education. Not just the Academy for the Arts, but other things as well: magic and self-defense. How to slip in and out of places undetected. While Riona excelled in music and dance, Rowan took on art and music.
As they grew older, their lessons took on new life: they were taught practical application of magic and how to properly defend themselves. Weapons training was a requirement, with the both of them preferring bladed weapons over anything else. Soon, memories of their first five years became hazy and nothing more than a dream, to them.
However, Tobrin never gave up on looking for them. His discovery that Suki had been killed sparked something in Oberon. He exiled Aine for a time, though he had no choice but to bring her back when the nobles spoke out against it. He ordered searches for his children and a proper funeral for Suki and the members of her clan that had been killed. Sadly, he has never seen his children, though he hopes to.
Meanwhile, Riona and Rowan have grown into their own. At sixteen, they were both given a job by Talon in order to prove themselves. They both succeeded and were taken into the fold. Around the same time, Corbyn was killed and his body buried somewhere along the shores of the Lake: he had paid his debt, but there was a chance that he could have told others about the twins. Others that would want to find them and bring them back to their family.
The twins continue to work for Talon, hoping to pay off the debt that they owe to the man and taking on any jobs that he throws at them.
