Name: John Blackvale
Age: 34
Hair: Blonde with silver along temples and going prematurely white
Eyes: Right eye is Blue, Left eye is Pink
Nationality: Maintains a dual citizenship in Scotland and America
Background: Born in Scotland he lived most of his early life in the United States of America with his elderly grandparents. His mother and father passed away after contracting malaria in South America, where they were doing research work on amazonian wildlife. He dropped out of high school his sophomore year, applied for his General Equivalency Diploma and was accepted into university after testing a 1430 on his SAT's. He received his Phd in Virology at 29 years old under the mentorship of the worlds most foremost authority in the field, Reginald Longinus. In the 5 years since his graduation he's rocketed to the third most respected person in the field, and although many people assume it's all his mentors doing, the facts are he's actually worked to become so well known.
Personality: John is cold, stand offish, seemingly cruel, and very often seems to be stuck in his own ego. Prone to anger and annoyance, he still manages to keep a cool head and wave off things before they get to be too much. Despite a high personal opinion of himself, he's constantly striving to prove himself to other people, almost as though even if he feels like he's better than everyone else he wants them to know it as well.
First post:
John paced silently in his office for what was likely somewhere in the ballpark of the hundredth time before peering out of his window on the fifth floor of the interim New York CDC base. He looked down over the quarantined people and inhaled sharply biting his cheek absentmindedly as he did so. It wasn't good, there were more and more people there every day. It wasn't bad at first, then the Z? virus appeared to only cause insomnia, people hadn't even realized it was a virus in those early days. However, it soon revealed itself in blood tests, unfortunately the tests had all been performed post mortem for weeks. He recited the symptoms in his mind again, something he did obsessively, almost as if it were a prayer. The truth though, was that it was a puzzle waiting to be unlocked. The symptoms always appeared in this order, Insomnia, a low grade fever around 99, but sometimes as high as 101, lethargy, paranoia, then they'd fall asleep, which wasn't bad until the final symptom manifested. The sufferer would wake spontaneously and attack anyone and everyone in his or her vicinity, Men, Women, and Children, no one was safe from this affliction.
The reason for Johns frustration was that his mentor Reginal Longinus, who to him from the day they'd met to the last had always been Professor L, had died quite recently. A few weeks ago he'd believed he'd cracked the code, and Professor L injected himself as the first human trial for the Z? virus vaccine to what could be considered mixed results. Although the virus took days to get the point where it turned people into homicidal maniacs, once infected the virus was easily detectable and easily transferable. Although the vaccine had protected Longinus from the virus itself, it was too rough on the human body, Longinus had died from a violent stroke quite suddenly and seemingly as a direct result of the vaccine. The animal trials had shown the virus to completely erase the virus in mice, and pigs, but in the human body it seemed the virus's natural reaction to the vaccine was to become was was effectly cellular depth charges causing Longinus' cells to put on their best Micael Bay film rendition's.
Now however, he was waiting with great impatience for the woman who'd they brought in to replace Longinus, much to the annoyance of John Blackvale. It wasn't that he was sexist, but he'd met who would be his new boss before, although brilliant from what he'd read of her published works, he still felt like he'd deserved the role she was coming to fill more, after all Longinus was
his mentor, but he accepted it no matter how much it galled him, because he knew quite well it was just as likely that the CDC headquarters were likely to be worried that he'd go the same route if they didn't OK his solutions either. The most frustrating thing about that though was the simple truth, of which he was privy to, that the CDC had been trying to get her to come work on the Z? vaccine/cure for even longer than Longinus had been gone, it had only been a matter of time before she came here, it just happened to feel like she was there to steal his mentors position when she finally accepted their offer. As Blackvale continued reciting the symptoms in his head he heard his office door open and turned to see her, the new head of the CDC field operatives department. He looked her up and down for moment and began to size her up, suddenly he realized he'd met her before at some conference or another, maybe even 2 or 3 different conferences, he wondered if she'd recognize him, in their field of work only their names became famous, not their faces.
OOC: Inbox if interested, I posted it here because I expect somewhere down the line sex will occur, or something sexual in nature, but I don't it to be about sex and nothing else.
