In the fractured continent of Askos, nine powerful guilds, each devoted to a different god, quietly control the world through wealth, knowledge, war, and faith.

When [insert name here], an ambitious noble from a minor house, seeks the throne, he doesn't raise an army. He hires an assassin from the Death Guild, known as Fadehall.

Vesira Rhen, a high-born orphan raised by the Fadehall, is chosen for her lethal skill and noble blood. Under her original identity of Lady Vaelira Duskmoore, she is publicly presented as [insert name here]'s long-lost betrothed. In truth, she is his spy, bodyguard, and personal executioner, eliminating rivals hidden under the guise of courtship.

Together, they weave a web of deception and death through noble houses and guild politics with their eyes firmly planted on the throne. But as Vesira climbs deeper into her courtly life, she uncovers divine prophecies, ancient secrets about her past, and whispers that [insert name here]'s rise to the throne may fulfill a dark fate.

    Name:
    Vesira Rhen / Vaelira Duskmoore

    Age:
    27

    Guild Association:
    Fadehall - Reaper's Scythe

    Background:
Her birth name was Vaeleria Duskmoores, the only child of a former noble family, the Duskmoores. They were the nobles who controlled Shriekfall until their demise when Vaelira was a small child. The De'Montreve family was granted control over Shriekfall after their deaths.

Vaelira grew up in a loving home, spoiled by her parents. She was a happy child, full of curiosity and wonder at the world. She was raised strictly with endless tutoring since the tender age of 3. She was drilled in manners of the court and was being primed to be the one to take over her family as the eldest child. (Her parents planned for more children) At age 7, everything in her world changed.

She snuck out one night to go play by the lake on their property. While playing with her new wooden boat toy on the lake edge, she began to hear faint screams. Abandoning her boat, Vaelira turned to go investigate, and when she turned around, she saw her family manor engulfed in flames. Her small screams melded with those of the servants and her family screaming for help, trapped on the upper floors, unable to escape. Vaelira watched her mother jump from a window to escape the flames and plummet to her death. Her father burned to death. Fires like this were incredibly rare and were typically a form of assassination by those who were not members of Fadehall.

A family friend, a Soulbound (title for patrons of the death guild) of Fadehall who lived on the property next door, saw the flames. He called for help and went to the burning home, and found Vaelira on the ground outside the home near her mother's body, holding herself and screaming. He wrapped Vaelira up and brought her to Fadehall, hoping the guild would be able to help her and guide her through the process of her parents' death. Instead, the guild offered Vaelira a chance at revenge, a chance to find the person who killed her family and tried to kill her. A home, safety. She couldn't refuse.

Vaelira Duskmoore was no more. Once she entered the guild, she shed her familial name, letting the world believe she vanished because her body was never found in the fire's remains. She took the name Vesira Rhen. As she grew within the guild, the happy, curious child vanished. She grew into a young woman who is full of hate and coldness towards the world. She has chosen to ignore the memories of the past. Originally, Vesira planned to become one of the Veiled, but the Reaper's Soul decided she would be a perfect fit to become an assassin. Raised by the Reaper's Soul, she was honed into a dangerous weapon and developed a taste for killing. Quickly, she flew up the ranks, becoming an Reaper's Scythe by her 24th birthday.

  • "We forget nothing."

The Scriptum is a vault of secrets, making it feared by nobles and merchants alike. The guild maintains a precarious neutrality but subtly manipulates other guilds by leaking carefully curated information.

Members of this guild are identified by a small scroll-shaped pendant worn on a chain, and the inner lining of their cloaks are embroidered with ciphered script in golden thread.

Guild Leader: Keeper of Scrolls, Maximus Haldis
    Domain: Knowledge, records, secrets
    Deity: Xandrel, God of Wisdom
Guild leader is chosen by: Unknown ancient ritual
Known for: Holds histories, secrets, and blackmail
    dki0rgo-3c6d48ca-9eba-4ffb-908d-88c47b02ece3.png
  • "The mask is the self."

The Crimson Stage influences public opinion through propaganda and cultural control. They are rivals with Sanctyr, whose zealotry opposes Crimson Stage's decadence and manipulation. They occasionally ally with the Silent Mint to fund grand spectacles that distract the populace. The Crimson Stage has close ties to the Royal Family and often does their bidding.

Members of this guild are identified by mask fragments worn as brooches, earrings, and rings.

Guild Leader: Maestra / Maestro, Sylara Morn & Aeyn Morn (Twins)
    Domain: Performance, culture, propaganda
Deity: Aerith, Muse of Flesh and Dream
Guild leader is chosen by: Creative contest
Known for: Uses beauty and theatre to manipulate

  • "Everything has a price."

The Silent Mint wields power through debt and credit, often at odds with the Steelreach when financing wars. They rely heavily on the Scriptum to protect their ledgers and hold sway over the Forged Ledger through contracts and supply chains. They have ties with every merchant, artisan, noble family across Askos, and even the Royal Family. There are whispers that the guild's power and influence stretch far beyond Askos.

Members of this guild are identified by high-collared coats with gold-stitched cuffs, and smooth golden tattoo lines along their wrists.

Guild Leader: The Golden Hand, Alec Tolven
    Domain: Wealth, contracts, debt, banking
    Deity: Gildros, Lord of Gold
Guild leader is chosen by: Election by council of merchants
Known for: Controlling economies; owns the debts and wealth of Askos
    dki0rgd-982adf4d-c197-424f-af4a-9dd30da6940d.png
  • Deity: Khaelis, Weaver of Ends
    "Our hands close fates."

Fadehall operates in the shadows, frequently hired by nobles to settle disputes or eliminate threats. They also cater to the dead across Askos. The guild has a tense, symbiotic relationship with the Steelreach Guild, sharing contracts and intelligence. They are mistrusted by Sanctyr, who sees them as blasphemous.

    More about Fadehall:
Death is not chaos; it is the Goddess's will. Khaelis sees the weave. We are the hands that cut the thread for Her. To act without Her will is blasphemy. To deny Her will is heresy. To fear death is to fear Khaelis.

  • Deity: Olyndra, the Shining One
"Sin breeds chaos; we are the cure."

Sanctyr enforces moral order but is deeply corrupt. They frequently clash with the Crimson Stage and Fadehall over their methods. They frequently pressure The Scriptum for information, and blackmail that they can use to satisfy the Guild's needs and advancement in the world.

    More about Sanctyr:

Runebind controls magical knowledge, arcane spells, and the law of magic. They are at odds with Sanctyr over magical regulation and continual pressure. • CURRENTLY CRAFTING

    "Oath given, blood bound."

Steelreach sells mercenaries, armies, and tacticians. Often backed by the Silent Mint's coin, though the guild prides itself on remaining largely debt-free. Their alliance with Fadehall is one born of uneasy necessity, as Fadehall handles their fallen. Sanctyr condemns Steelreach's methods, denouncing their violence as immoral. Their relationship with Runebind remains tense yet cooperative, due to a shared interest in arcane warfare.

Members of this guild are identified by armor etched with the Steelreach sigil and a blood-oath brand over the heart.

    Guild Leader: Warlord, Ralika Bauere
    Domain: Protection, mercenaries, warfare

  • "Our hands shape the world."

The Forged Ledger balances creation and commerce, allied closely with the Silent Mint. There is uneasiness between the two as the Silent Mint is wary of the Forged Ledger's influence over culture and market trends. They compete with Tidefell over control of trade routes. They are reliant on the Scriptum to archive trade routes, deals, and business ledgers.

Members of this guild are identified by a wooden pin with the Guild seal on it.

    Guild Leader: Guildmaster, Landry Va'arn
Domain: Trade, crafts, invention, and farming
Deity: Loris, Hand of the Forge

  • "What the tide gives, it takes."

Tidefell commands the seas and ports, battling the Forged Ledger for control of trade. They are often at odds with Steelreach over naval contracts. Their piracy and smuggling operations put them in the crosshairs of the Silent Mint's efforts to maintain order.

Members of this guild are identified by full back tattoos of waves, shipwrecks, or storms. They wear charms made of driftwood, shark teeth, or barnacles and have seaweed-threaded braids or cords tied into clothing.

spot for fiddling with steelreach's coding/information before adding it above

Deity: Askara, Goddess of Blood Oaths
"Oath given, blood bound."

Steelreach sells mercenaries, armies, and tacticians. Often backed by the Silent Mint's coin, though the guild prides itself on remaining largely debt-free due to being funded by the Royal Family.
