Oh, that's quite interesting, actually! I'm flattered that you seem to have done some research on the topic, and I'm glad that I asked. Good to know! ^^
Of course! It's just a cursory search but the majority of sources I've skimmed support these two articles' overall opinion. I actually didn't know either until now but I kinda thought they would be more progressive.
Hmm still trying to figure out how Ayumu would react to developing a bit of a crush on someone... Or what would make him crush on someone. It'd be cute to involve him in some romance, but I'm not sure whether he'd be better off just being a 'shrine cat'. Hmm... I suppose I'll figure it out along the way.
I think the crush would be cute. I read that bio, he's romance material. Hopefully we'll get a couple more characters to pick from soon. You guys are welcome to make a second if you like.
I'm a big fan of yokai, if that wasn't already kinda noticable... :p Perhaps I'll make another, if that's okay. From what I've seen in Kamisama Hajimemashita and Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi, yokai can be found all over the place, in all sorts of shapes and sizes, if you know where to look for them. I would consider making a minor kami but I don't feel like their kind would fit in so well as actual characters, if you get what I mean. Perhaps a spirit or a yokai would fit better.
Yeah, I think another yokai or spirit would be a good player character. I think we can all make some collective NPCs everyone can utilize like Chouko, the Head Miko, or Daichi, the Mountain Kami.
Name: "Ryuji" Age: 148 (looks mid-20s) Gender: Male Sex: Male Pronouns: He/Him
Sexuality: Hetero Marital Status: Single
Race: Uwabami ("snake/serpent" yokai) Ethnicity: Ryukyuan Nationality: Japanese
Zodiac: Aries Religion: None
Education: None Social Status:
High-class yokai (respected)
A myth/nuisance among locals
Personality: Independent, confident, passionate and cunning, but also fairly short-tempered and incredibly impulsive. Has a strange kind of charisma and is nearly always on the move. He's that guy who might drop by to pluck a person out of a sticky situation, only to be gone in the blink of an eye. He lives in the moment and does things on a whim. Absolutely loves sake, will do quite literally anything for it... and "mysteriously" turns up where there's sake.
Bio:
There's not much to say about him other than that he has gathered quite a reputation for making off with people's sake in the dark of night. He's a total glutton as well and has a seemingly bottomless stomach, which has often led him into patterns of destructive behavior in the past, brought on by densely populated areas like cities and major towns.
To escape the corruption and temptations of the human world, he ventured further away from the city and took a shine to the wilderness and the minor yokai and spirits that were to be found there. As a natural-born leader and high-class yokai, he was effective at asserting dominance and came to be greatly respected by 'lesser' yokai in the area, with a few exceptions. Meanwhile, fellow high-class yokai have a tendency to hate his guts, typically viewing him as a threat.
Since discovering the shrine purely by coincidence, he has found great curiosity in how the residents are somehow tied together despite some of their... vibrant personalities. He finds them simply fascinating to watch, like how one might watch an ant nest. While he remains a wild yokai, he does have a tendency to pop by from time to time - when there's either sake to drink or a cute shrine maiden to fool around with. At times, he can be a simple hindrance, but he can be persuaded to lend a hand if bribed well enough. Or if it fancies him. Sometimes, just being able to show off and drop a flirtatious comment or two is enough for him.
Eye Colour: Golden-yellow Hair Colour: Jet black Height: 6'2 Physique: Toned, robust. He's not particularly exceptional at agility or speed, at least not in the same degree as a nekomata. He relies more on physical strength, which he has plenty of. Distinguishing Features:
Startling yellow pigment in his irises - his eyes almost seem to glow
Unruly hair that simply cannot be tamed
Black 'tattoos' coiled around his lower arms (see image)
NPCs are characters anyone can utilize in our roleplay to help move along plot and/or give the roleplay more "life" since logistically there will never be that many players in a roleplay to make a space feel lived in with just PCs alone (unless you're writing a full on novel but this is for fun so we're not fleshing these guys out that hard). Below are a few NPCs I've created to help fill up the shrine, please feel free to offer more if you like and we can add them to this list.
Haruko Chouka - Elderly Head Miko
Name: Haruko Chouka
Age: 82 Persona: Calm, Whimsical, Forgetful; Chouka is a very capable diviner when she can remember where she is and what year it is. She suffers dementia but she is kind soul and respected deeply by her students, Tomo and Yori. Face Claim:
Akai Kurou - Arrogant Kannushi Trainee
Name: Akai Kurou
Age: 19 Persona: Confident, Competitive, Well Meaning; Kurou is passionate about his training and takes his role as a kannushi very seriously. He is a doting, caring caretaker to the Shrine elder, Chouka. He is wary of newcomers, especially the supernatural entities who have lately frequented the Ushigata Shrine. Face Claim:
Kumiko - Mischievous Oni Name: Kumiko
Age: 203 (Appears 23) Persona: Stubborn, Outgoing, Dim-Witted; Kumiko is mischievous red oni who lives in the woods just outside the shrine's wards. She's typically harmless, more interested in drinking sake than harming travelers but she does enjoy playing pranks on those who lose themselves in her woods. Face Claim:
Daichi - Kami of Ushigata Mountain
Name: Daichi
Age: As Old As the Mountain Persona: Down to Earth, Nurturing, Set In His Ways; Daichi is an old Kami, born of the tectonic shifts that created his mountain in the world before men. He finds humans charming and holds a long standing tradition of regular offerings and specific customs he likes followed, knowledge passed down by the Kannushi and Miko of Ushigata Shrine. Face Claim:
Oh. My. Goodness. That kami is HOT~ Literally can't bear to look at him for more than a second before my mind goes so haywire that I just can't function properly. ><
Haha yup, damn autocorrect. I have drawings I did for the other two, they're retired OCs I once ran. I'll have there finished up soon. @Msjamjam said she'll be joining us so we should see another PC soon! I love that face grab for the Kami, zerochan.net is a blessing.
I can see that you've given those NPC bios a threadmark. Perhaps you could do the same for the other bios? So it's easier to find them, instead of having to dig around for them. ^^
