I have had this idea bouncing in my head and on (dead) forums for some time. Sometimes I get a but never have pulled anything into the boat. In true collaborative fiction sense, rather than a simple round robin, I am looking for a few good writers that will take up the whole story, grab and go with any plot twist, evil- antagonist, or a brick on the wall and roll with it.

At this point it is just an idea. I am not sure (right now) of the parameters (who gets what, how we decide on what posts what, sources of inspiration) but we can hammer that out in an ooc forum.

Here is something a bit more concrete:

Collaborative Chronicles of a band of mercenaries, heroes, rejects and scoundrels on the steppes and forests of an unknown land. Consider this fiction on the go.

House Suggestions (ongoing):
  • A player does not necessarily have to control one character. Writers can muse on a group, a part of the company, their headquarters, history, the evil-doer waiting in the wings. Writers can explore first person accounts of the Company, lore, history, 30 pages on one wizard's spell (?).
  • At this time I am thinking of rolling random character BUT if someone really wants to try someone or even something out, they totally can.
  • A passing thought was to have some sort of random prompt, symbols, even tarot cards to inspire, consider it a casual, if not accidental GM emulator.
Suggestions, expansions or "what the heck are you talking abouts" are always welcome.

My idea for a character is a Forester / Ranger and her pack of Big Dogs ( Mastiffs ).
I'm using an old gaming system to make a character that isn't OP.
You and any other writers-players can ignore the game character sheet.

Description from the American Kennel Club
"The colossal Mastiff belongs to a canine clan as ancient as civilization itself. A massive, heavy-boned dog of courage and prodigious strength, the Mastiff is docile and dignified but also a formidable protector of those they hold dear. For the uninitiated, a face-to-face encounter with these black-masked giants can be startling. A male stands at least 30 inches at the shoulder and can outweigh many a full-grown man. The rectangular body is deep and thickly muscled, covered by a short double coat of fawn, apricot, or brindle stripes. The head is broad and massive, and a wrinkled forehead accentuates an alert, kindly expression. Mastiffs are patient, lovable companions and guardians who take best to gentle training. Eternally loyal Mastiffs are protective of family, and a natural wariness of strangers makes early training and socialization essential. Mastiffs are magnificent pets, but acquiring a powerful giant-breed dog is commitment not to be taken lightly."

Hello, diqitagirl.

IDK if Valdis, the author of the Original Post, is interested in using a game system or not. I use GURPS, which uses character point allocation for characters' statistics, advantages, disadvantages and skills. GURPS has supplemental material for fantasy, science fiction and other genres.

Anyway, I doubt relying on a game system will be a necessary part for writing in this collaboration.

Peace!
