can more than one character host an establishment? can you play two of your own characters to interact with each other?

There's no rule that says that a player cannot have more than one establishment.
Broadly, we do not encourage a player to use multiples of their own characters in one thread. If this must be done, characters should be posted separately to indicate the individual growth of the characters (this is to say that a single post cannot contain both character's perspectives, etc.).

Just to be clear, you want one of your characters to run an establishment, and a second character (which is also yours) to work in the establishment that the first of your characters is running?

No. I want one of my character's to run the establishment, while one of someone else's character to work in the establishment (if they are willing)

That would be fine, yes.

Hello!

So, I am a member returning after a year or more of absence, and I came to learn about this Outer Sanctum and its rules. I am reading through and trying my best to pay attention, however, I do have a couple or three questions I'd like to ask:

1. What exactly is the setting here? Is it more of a medieval fantasy sort of place? Steampunk? Dark fantasy? I guess, my question boils down to: what kind of character can I create that won't be completely out of place in this setting?

2. How does someone who hasn't been here since the very beginning of this realm start out? Do I need to try and keep track of the countless stories/situations and encounters? Do I just try to place my own character in the world and go from there?

Hello!

Just to go over them briefly,

1. "Generic medieval fantasy" is probably one of the easiest ways to look at it. You can largely create any character you want so long as it doesn't violate any of the setting (or site) rules.

2. The start of the realm doesn't matter—it didn't have a start so much as it "popped into existence" with it's own history and backgrounds. There's some stories that help to sort of set the scene, but the world has "always been there". It's the same as any roleplay, just in a persistent setting. Make a character, go into the world, start roleplaying.

Alright, thank you!

Is there activity guidelines/rules for the Outer Sanctum?
