The vast majority of the family's wealth comes from the sale of their harvests and the tenants who sustain them. However, more recently, the noble family has refined their approach by branding their legacy: loose-leaf tea and custom blends sealed in parchment and tin, conveniently sold directly to the public.

    After their father's untimely death, Nicolas took over the role of viscount with a steady, capable hand, charming and talented in negotiation. He was also Noémie's greatest supporter and closest friend, nurturing her curiosity and encouraging her love of study and talent for cultivating plants. Much to their mother's dismay, he often sought his sister's voice on the estate's economic matters, regarding her as an equal despite societal roles.

    Then came the glow.

    A distant thing at first, no more than a smear of orange against the horizon, easy to mistake for a late sun dragging its heels. But what began as a flicker within a storage structure became a devastating blaze amidst Eldermere's countryside, devouring crops and ripping down timber. Nicolas, in an attempt to save men trapped inside, succumbed to the flames. The smoke carried the news faster than any rider could—the Bourdeaux heir was dead.

    Grief lodged in the marrow where warmth once lived, leaving Noémie with a void in her life, unprepared for what came next. In the wake of Nicolas's death, the resolve to honor his memory and protect the family name ignited.

    While marriage has always been an eventuality to be delayed as long as possible for Noémie, her brother's will came with stipulations. In life, Nicolas trusted his dear sister more than anyone, but he also knew she hadn't been raised to manage the business the way he had. If something were to happen to him, he could not bear the thought of that crushing responsibility falling on her shoulders alone. In his will, it is stated that the family's estate, business, land, and wealth would pass directly to Noémie; however, trusting her judgment even in death, she would only be allowed to keep control of these assets if she properly married within the next three years.

Kieran’s maternal grandfather, a man of considerable landholdings and legal acumen abroad, cultivated alliances within Eldermere, eventually leading to his daughter's marriage to a local baron, Edward Graves, and solidifying a place in high society. Lord Graves has since surpassed his standing, rising to the post of Lord Chancellor through relentless discipline and political persuasion. His eldest son, Arwin, is equally hardworking, seemingly positioning himself as the inevitable successor to their father’s role when the time arrives.

    Edward Graves has always disliked how emotional his youngest son was: too soft, too forgiving, a creature of compassion for seemingly everything save himself. Kieran, for his part, struggled to learn the art of concealing the heart on his sleeve and spoke with a candor that was often met with harsh correction. Though he has since settled into the appearance of a gentleman, the discipline seems to be donned for occasions, rather than ever sincerely heeded. However, even with his gentle and earnest heart, Kieran is tightly wound, harboring an anger inherited from his father that rises more often than he'd like to admit.⠀[ portfolio ]

    Edward Graves is a severe and exacting man, known for his near-total lack of leniency as Lord Chancellor. It is unfortunate, then, that he carries this mindset home with him, ruling with rigid authority and unyielding expectations upon his children. Kieran was quite young when he learned his future had been decided for him; the profession of law and justice presented as an inheritance rather than a choice. He was initially unsure how to feel, but under the suffocating expectations shared between him and his elder brother, Kieran quickly decided he had no desire to toil away his youth for what felt like confinement.

    At fourteen years old, Kieran made the mistake of voicing his unease and was unintentionally overheard by his father. Enraged to the point of a vein threatening to pop, the boy was struck hard enough to send him into the corner of a tea table, leaving a small scar above his left eyebrow, serving as a lesson that defiance had consequences. Thereafter, Kieran learned passivity, like his mother and brother, and didn't fight back.

    Kieran did not find his freedom or true sense of self until he left home to board at university. Here, there was no one to silence him, no hovering father, and he could simply exist. This is also where his convictions began to shift, and where he decided that he would finish his training to become a barrister, albeit not one high society would like.

    Drawing rooms and gentlemen’s clubs offered little like-minded company, so he started sneaking out to the lower echelons of society to mingle. With each passing year, Kieran is happier, bolder, and restless, hungry for change and difficult to contain.

    By necessity, and not inclination, it appears the youngest Graves son is ready to seek a match! The prevailing assumption amongst the ton seems to be that Kieran was threatened with disinheritance, either financially or severed from the family entirely, but the cause remains a mystery. While displeased with the ultimatum, Kieran feels he has little choice but to comply with his father’s demand to straighten out and find a suitable young lady to wed. Operating under the assumption he will not find a love-match, he'd be content enough to settle with a partner whose company and conversation he can, at the very least, enjoy.

    ∙⠀Second son of the Lord Chancellor, assigned to become lawyer boy when he grows up.
    ∙⠀Struggle with extreme daddy issues and get a free scar out of it.

I don’t have a problem with it @selcouth it looks great.

Also just checking in with everyone since it has been a little since I last heard anything. I was just waiting on @Melibi to put up another post before I do, so Isadora and Rosalie can finish up their interaction and become friends, and also so Laurence/Percival can speak with Kieran and his brother.
 
Hahah I would like to see how most of the characters interact at this first ball to see who could pair well with who in the future but we shall see if that happens.

And if you’d like to check in with her that’d be great, there’s really no rush though. I have a few rps to get back to and a busy schedule today and tomorrow ahead of me. But I did just want to drop in and say where I was at with this rp to not leave anyone hanging or wondering!
