And btw Nell has no idea what summoning even does, or what types of things can be summoned. So she might try to do some really weird things with it.

Hey, Ark what's wrong with a little necromancy between friends. didn't you like the part about asking murder victims who killed them.
Hey that was in a different thread! Different world. It was different Ark back there that likes necromancy. But here I just thought I'd be fun for Nell to dislike it, as her own mission is to create life, not to undo death. So to her necromancy is sort of like trying to eat rotten potatoes instead of growing fresh potatoes. But that doesn't mean she can't be friends with Lydia, for example. She might just judge her about it.

cool.

finally decided to stop lurking and throw the twins in the ring. I haven't had the chance to read through everything so I hope they're not too similar to anyone else.

The Seer
Profile
Name: Asta Falk
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Race / Species: Human
Realm of Origin: Astrog (think fantasy Viking Earth with two moons)

Role: Undergraduate

Pets / Familiars: None

Physicality

Appearance: Standing at 5’1, with a perpetually serious face, Asta is somehow both intimidating and not at all. From behind, one would assume the girl with inky black waves falling to her waist might seem friendly, especially given her height, but upon seeing her face, they might change their mind. Her eyes are a steely light gray, framed with dark lashes and intense eyeliner. Her brows match the hue of her hair and are often furrowed in concentration or concern, which paired with the fact that her lips naturally point downward gives her a resting face that looks displeased at best. Her nose is slender and slightly pointed at the end, keeping it from being a button nose. Overall, she’s got a slender build, clearly built more for speed and agility than anything else. Typically wearing all black or shades of gray, she favors high-neck tunics (with or without sleeves), trousers, and boots, but when the occasion calls for it, she isn’t opposed to wearing dresses or skirts, she just finds them impractical for everyday wear.

Non-Magical Skills:
-Baking and Cooking: Known to stress cook and bake, she’s picked up quite the skill over the years.
-Gardening: A natural green thumb, she especially loves to grow herbs for her cooking.
-Archery: Not content to be a damsel in distress, but lacking the strength for melee combat, Asta has studied archery since she was old enough to hold a bow.

Special Belongings: N/A

Personality

Character: Socially awkward, but quite protective and loyal. Friendly, even if she doesn’t look approachable at first. Studious, only if the subject interests her, otherwise she will doze off in class.
Quirks:
-Almost perpetually monotone, it takes a while of being around her to realize when she’s being sarcastic versus serious.
-Has a bad habit of dream walking into her friends' dreams when she’s bored at night.
-Freezes up at hugs, literally goes stiff as a board when someone so much as throws their arm around her.
Flaws:
-Insomniac: She struggles to sleep, leading to general exhaustion and physical weakness.
-Due to being a medium, she’s sometimes hounded by spirits stuck in the material plane to help them find peace and go beyond the veil. This hounding can lead to her being quite distracted and making mistakes (another reason she hates melee ranged combat).
-General awkwardness with the living. She feels quite misunderstood as someone who has spent much of her life in the company of the dead rather than the living, with the exception of her twin.

Practice of Magic

Magical Domain(s): While her connection to the afterlife could be considered Mana Magic, the rest of her powers are firmly in Mandate Magic as they rely on her either calling upon spirits or using their souls as ‘fuel’.
Magical Abilities:
-Afterlife Connection: Asta is able to connect with and tap into what lies beyond the veil between life and death for humanoids. This leads into her next powers.
-Divination: Typically done through tarot cards or osteomancy (bone reading) with her personal set. What she sees is not certain, but is the most likely outcome based on current path, and is fueled by her connection to the afterlife.
-Dream Walking: The ability to astral project into another (known) person’s dream. This is mentally taxing and leaves the physical body vulnerable.
-Mediumship: She can communicate with the souls of the dead, both those that are still lingering in the world and those that have passed on, though it is harder with those who have passed on (and they may refuse to speak with her even after she has successfully called on them).
-Soul Energy Manipulation: Able to manipulate the soul energy of both herself and others, including the dead. This does not consume the souls used, but it is physically taxing. The soul energy can be turned into solid constructs or infused into herself to boost her own stats. However, since she is physically fairly weak, she focuses more on ranged constructs and increasing her own senses. Aside from simple shields, the main constructs she can create are a bow and arrows.
Academic Interests:
Major: Divination and Communication with the Dead
Minor: Conjuration (much to her annoyance)
Favorite Courses: Anything to do with divination or general mediumship
Least Favorite Courses: Anything physical

House: None at the moment, though she may be swayed to join one.

Current Magnum Opus status: Currently uninterested, but may find something worth further study.

Plot Hooks:
-Platonic and Romantic Relationships: Asta is an awkward mess, her learning to deal with the living and potentially coming to crush on someone would be interesting for sure.
-The spirits of classmates’ family hounding her, forcing her to interact with someone so maybe she can have some peace. (Could be funny, could be tragic, could be dark)
-Would need the input of our fearless leader Dispy, but a prophecy or divination of some kind about another student/the school?
The Wolf
Profile
Name: Aksel Falk
Age: 20
Gender: Male

Race / Species: Human
Realm of Origin: Astrog
Role: Undergraduate

Pets / Familiars: A black wolf named Viggo

Physicality

Appearance: Standing at 6’1, Aksel is easily the more intimidating twin, which is ironic given his character. He shares the same angular features as his twin, the same grey eyes, and inky black hair, though his is shorter, falling just above his shoulders, but cut in the same haphazard way. Unlike Asta, however, he is built for strength over agility, with a broad chest and shoulders. He’s often been compared to a tree trunk, though he isn’t terribly fond of the comparison.
He favors black or dark-colored clothing, just the same as her; the two often wear nearly identical outfits.

Non-Magical Skills:
-Painting: His favorite activity to destress, he’s often found alongside Asta while she gardens, sketching and painting the nature around them. He’s very shy about it though, and will often deny that he participates.
-Hand-to-Hand Combat: His natural build leans into a brawler style of combat, only aided by his powers.
-Animal Husbandry: While Asta enjoys plants over anything else, Aksel prefers animals, perhaps in part due to his powers. He has a natural connection with many creatures and finds caring for them to be soothing.

Special Belongings: N/A

Personality

Character: A gentle giant, soft-spoken and calm. Fiercely loyal and protective, but it takes a bit to provoke him to anger. Almost too trusting when it comes to trying to see the good in everyone.
Quirks:
-Often mumbles without meaning to, the deep pitch of his voice making it hard for most others to understand him when he speaks too softly.
-Has a bad habit of slouching, only to quickly snap to his full height when spoken to which can be startling.
-General awkwardness, but not for lack of socialization, more so that a lot of social cues just go over his head.

Flaws:
-Absolutely hates being fussed over, even when he’s injured, which has led to some unfortunate instances of his twin dragging him to seek medical attention.
-Much too trusting, and wanting to see the good in others.
-Would rather be in the company of nature than other people most of the time.
Practice of Magic

Magical Domain(s): Like Asta, his connection to the afterlife could be considered Mana Magic, but the rest of his abilities lie firmly in Mandate, requiring him to evoke spirits, or use their souls as ‘fuel’.
Magical Abilities:
-Afterlife Connection: Aksel is also able to connect with and see beyond the veil between life and death, however, his powers rest solely with ‘lower’ beings (animals/creatures and plants).
-Divination: Typically done through osteomancy (bone reading) or the reading of tea leaves. What he sees is not certain, and he finds it far less interesting than Asta does.
-Speak with Nature: Able to communicate simple thoughts and ideas, mostly to animals, though sometimes he can get through to plants (mostly used to see what they need for Asta’s gardening, he finds it tedious to try and communicate grander ideas to plants).
-Soul Energy Manipulation: Able to manipulate the soul energy of both himself and the nature around him, including souls he has summoned, he can use this energy to infuse himself with powers and minor abilities (i.e. if he uses a hawk soul, he can enhance his sight, a bear for strength, etc etc). This does not consume the souls used, but is physically taxing for Aksel. He can also create constructs, but is limited to the shape of the soul’s physical body. It is not unusual to see him surrounded by shimmering golden animals while he trains.
Academic Interests:
Major: Conjuration and Magical Combat
Minors: Divination (much to his annoyance) and Animal Husbandry

House: None at the moment, but could possibly be swayed to join something to do with animals and creatures.

Current Magnum Opus status:
Uninterested at the moment, but could be swayed.

Plot Hooks:
-Platonic and Romantic Relationships: He’s just awkward and soft, and completely oblivious; it could be funny.
-Someone catching him sketching/painting, whether they’re nice or cruel about it.
-Sparring, with or without abilities.

Hey guys! Got a lot of work done, and the main IC will be ready soon. I appreciate you being patient with me and promise it will be worth every delay. 🙏

In the meantime, there is something you guys can do to help: I know you’ve already started doing this, but if you had some ideas about classes you would want to attend with other PCs, having a shortlist of those would be extremely useful to make sure we hit the ground running. Feel free to share your ideas, both of classes and of who you think it would be fun to go to class with!

I kind of want a herbology class / garden club? I think it'd be cool if there was a green house on campus for both medicine and potion making classes. So, maybe there could be a 'field trip' to the greenhouse to see what plants are there.
Or, taking lesser inspiration from the Winx Club video game I played growing up? Maybe an actual field trip to gather some sort of plant for a potion/medicine? Thus, getting to explore a little chunk of one of the many realms in groups?
Just a couple ideas to make that class sound more fun than rattling off from a botany text book. XD

I also kind of wanted a monster hunting or capture class? For like.. Creature containment? My character is always looking for a better way to keep his slimes contained but them still be safe as well. I really need to go through and read everyone's characters again, but I believe we have a creature keeper type staff member? Maybe this would be a suited class for him? Or we could have a different teacher for hunting/capture?

All, just ideas. No pressure on anyone.

Thank you for doing all that work for us @dispatch!
Now let's see...
I think any spell casting class would be fun, where we go outside and play various types of spells. And also creature related classes, like summoning, hunting, taming... Raising dead ones. Or perhaps a mind control class? (Super random thought)

Now I'm wondering, if not everyone is in the same class, or at the same location in general, are we going to have multiple threads going in parallel, or will some of us simply wait to get involved?

I think that perhaps some collaboration might take place as far as those who have the same classes, such as anybody in Washington's beast-related classes. I could make my teaching posts more descriptive so that yall can do more as far as actual actions and whatnot after a bit. Also taking from Hagrid's class, the actual subject of the class would likely change per day, just something related to beasts, so the capturing/hunting can be fit into the schedule anyhow. Also seeing how many familiars Mio's character has, yeah that would help.

I'll update the list I made here. It's an attempt to categorise what the students would attend, and what the professors would teach. Feel free to post me corrections if I got any of this wrong.

Spellcraft- Gemaak, Damien, Jayhe
Conjuration- Lydia, Asta, Aksel
Necromancy/Communion- Lydia, Asta, Aksel
Evocation- Zahra, Lydia, Keiko, Nell
Restoration- Elzebe, Nell, Medi
Herbology/Alchemy- Gemaak, Keiko, Medi
Enchanting- Zahra, Damien
Transmutation- Elzebe, Zaphyr
Magizoology- Jayhe, Nell, Medi, Aksel
Illusion- Keiko
Magical Combat- Aksel

Method- Keiko, Zaphyr, Medi
Mana- Elzabe, Gemaak, Jayhe, Lydia, Zaphyr, Nell, Asta, Aksel
Mandate - Zahra, Damien, Nell, Asta, Aksel

Professor Broadbrook- Necromancy (main), Conjuration, Evocation (part-time), Mana
Professor Lich- Conjuration (main), Mana
Groundskeeper Washington- Magizoology(main), Transmutation, Method

Hopefully that makes things easier to organise.

Whoa those are some really cool classes!

But in practice, I'd likely want to join whatever class is currently active. And the same goes with other events, whether they are being ran by our lovely GM, or a player.
I suppose I could write for Professor Lich's class.... 😈 "Summoning with Professor Lich" sounds like a cute thread title, yes?
Thank you for doing all that work for us @dispatch!

Creature Class and Summoning Class can overlap just a little, especially if you want to summon extradimensional creatures.

Yes, @dispatch , I was also wondering if there should be multiple threads.

I think as long as we get some heads up to each other and communicate ooc, then we can all end up in the same places as needed. Our characters can always have opportunities to go 'crap, I'm late to class. Sorry, bye.' Or something of the like.

I'd be against splitting threads for the story because of potential issues with timing. If a rota is established of when which classes are on, the ones who aren't attending have a campus and an entire city to explore.

Free time could also be used for the students to work on their magnum opus.

I think we could try to make a sort of mini-title during the post's, that way we can perhaps separate it a little so that Patch can still do like world events within the same RP thread. We could also tag the people we are currently RP'ing with action-wise if y'all get what I mean. We could also label if we are just doing an action by and for ourself for others to potentially join in.

That makes sense, if I understand right... To have one open world thread, and one that is more strict, for classes and gm led events? So if you just want to meet someone, it goes in the open world thread. And the events thread is where continuity is more important.

I think separate threads could disrupt the continuity of the story.

I'm just checking in. How's everyone doing?

How about a little game of "Two truths and a lie" to pass the time while we wait for the story to start? For those that don't know the rules, it's pretty straightforward. Just tell us three things about yourself, two truths and a lie, and everyone else tries to guess which is which. It's a pretty good 'getting to know you' exercise.

For example:

I'm an aspiring author, I work as a voiceover artist, and I have a black belt in Tai Kwon Do.

Which is the lie?
