Backstory
Benjamin was born in the Upper East Side in New York as the only child of Julian and Grace Montgomery. His parents, both of which came from an “old money” family, formed their marriage not out of love, but as a way to further gain wealth. The Montgomery family has always had close ties to the Hearst family, which is Grace’s maiden name– the marriage was always bound to happen. Together, Julian and Grace built their home in New York, and then had their son. For the first 10 years of Benjamin’s life, New York was the place he called home. It wasn’t until a scandal broke the media that their family had decided a change of scenery was necessary.
Grace had cheated on Julian, it wasn’t nearly as shocking as the media tried to depict it. After all, a marriage made as a power move was never going to last. Still, Grace and Julian remained together, packing up their lives and their son, and then moved to Telluride, Colorado. They purchased a manor in the San Juans mountains, and there they remained for a couple of years.
By the time Benjamin was 13, Grace had filed for divorce. She’d fallen in love with another man, and had ended up pregnant with Benjamin’s half-sibling, Cole. Benjamin’s mother essentially began a new family. She would see Benjamin frequently during the first year or so after the divorce. It was once Cole was born that Grace started disconnecting entirely from her connections to the Montgomery family. By 15, Benjamin rarely saw his mother and half-brother. By 16, Grace no longer had any contact with Benjamin.
Julian finished raising Benjamin, if that was what it could be called. They remained in Colorado, where Julian continued growing his empire without his wife, never to remarry. Julian was a cold man, disconnected from his emotions, it seemed. Benjamin was certain he could count the times his father said, “I love you” on one hand. Julian really cared about very few things: his business and the money it made him. He tried to instill those same ethics into Benjamin– work is life, money is power, and power opens every door in this world. It was a philosophical belief that Benjamin couldn’t connect with. While his father made business deals, buying smaller companies and using them as ways to “clean” his money, all Benjamin could see was the hardship the rest of the world faced. Starvation, homelessness, addiction, children who went without, animal shelters filled to the brim. He couldn’t stand it, but he was too young and powerless to change it.
By 18, Benjamin was taking over accounts for his father’s corporations; he was put in charge of finding new, developing companies to acquire. Ones they could “invest” in and help build, so that it appeared all of their money came through legitimate channels.
Benjamin had plans to leave the business, knowing he’d never be able to change it. Julian would never see the wrong in his actions– the destruction of building new infrastructure and the lives he hurt in the process. At age 20, Benjamin had prepared himself. He’d saved his own money, everything he earned legitimately. He would give up a life of wealth, the money never mattered to him. The young man had even written the speech he was going to give his father. Only, when he walked into his office, Julian had news of his own.
He was sick. Pancreatic cancer. A cancer that, if not spread, most people barely lived five years with. Julian would make it three, even with the best treatment his money could buy. At 23, Benjamin buried his father. Throughout those three years, Benjamin had stepped up, despite how much he resented the work his father did. He did everything Julian asked of him, signed contracts, took over residential and commercial building zones. In the end, Julian left everything– the money, the businesses, the estate, vacation homes. Anything anyone could have ever wanted, only Benjamin couldn’t stand where it came from.
It took him several months to get his footing and to go through the legal process of it all, but once it had all been said and done, Benjamin had entirely restaffed the main business. He’d sold off several shell companies. Along with a few yachts, vacation properties, and a dozen cars he’d never drive. All of the money from the sales was donated, Benjamin wouldn’t take a dime of it. For the last six years since his father’s passing, Benjamin made a new name for himself.
Present
At 29 years old, Benjamin is a multi-millionaire, though most wouldn’t know it. The charities he’s founded are under an alias, his donations are almost always made anonymously. People still know his father’s name, and the damage that Julian Montgomery did to so many, but his son hasn’t been in the news much since the passing of his father.
The most recent headline made would have been that the Montgomery Estate had been turned into a children’s home and school. It housed children awaiting adoption, so that they didn’t have to be placed into foster homes. Benjamin oversaw many of the renovations and ensured that the staff and educators hired were of the highest quality. The reports of the school and how it is functioning go straight to Benjamin himself.
Throughout the last six years, Benjamin has done far more than just turn his father’s estate into a children’s home. At the beginning, Benjamin did mostly donation work, allotting funds to any and every charity he could think of, for a variety of causes. When that wasn’t enough, Benjamin set to funding underpaid, understaffed, undereducated public schools. He went in front of education boards, demanding to know which areas really needed improvements, he held seminars for teachers so that he could hear their thoughts, knowing they worked the closest with the students.
Benjamin funded, and built, a variety of animal sanctuaries. Both for your average house pets and wildlife. It was through his work with local animal rescues that Benjamin discovered just how much he loved animals. He’d grown up with designer dogs, all of his father’s choice, but none of them had ever been
his. He’d never bonded with them, even if he had cared for them. Now, Benjamin not only contributes highly to the causes of animals, but he volunteers his personal time. He finds working in an animal shelter to be one of the most rewarding and fulfilling things he’s ever done.
Throughout the years, Benjamin managed to develop a relationship with his half-brother. He and Cole have a 13 year age difference between them, so his half-brother is only 16. Despite talking to his younger brother, Benjamin and Grace still remain estranged. They’ve talked only when Cole was coming to visit Benjamin, their contact never went beyond that.
Benjamin has friends to fill the empty space whenever there isn’t some project for him to be working on. Ethan has been one of his closest friends since his father’s passing. He is also one of Benjamin’s most trusted project managers, overseeing several of the different foundations that they have opened together. Addison is practically a sister to Benjamin. She works at one of the first animal sanctuaries that Benjamin funded. Their connection was immediate, as though they had been lifelong friends– he just recently attended Addison’s wedding, standing as one of her husband’s groomsmen.
As far as Benjamin is concerned, his only purpose in life is to do as much good for his community and country as he can. He keeps a few honest and legitimate corporate businesses running to continue generating income– so that he can keep helping anyone and everyone– but he has little to do with them, other than making sure they remain honest.
Currently, Benjamin lives in a ranch house in Wyoming. It sits on several acres of land and offers Benjamin a place away from the busy world. Living alongside him are his two cats and one dog, all three of which he rescued throughout the last couple of years. The only "bad habit" that Benjamin would say he has, is smoking (both cigarettes and marijuana) on occassion.

Benjamin is 6’0”, with dark brown hair and warm brown eyes. His build is lean and muscular, and he has tattoos along both of his arms. Typically his facial hair is kept short/trimmed, while his semi-wavy hair falls long enough to cover his eyes if he doesn’t keep it styled back.
