Both Needed Web-heads and Spider-Fans Wanted (Two Spots Open!)

I have a few ideas about that, based on the individual characters we have;

Based on what I've read, and discussions I've had, I'm thinking ... >sucks in a deep breath<

I just have to put together a little blurb about the area, which is traditional Spider-man New York ... unless we all get the jist of it and I can skip that ... aw, but it makes everything look a lot nicer, I'm prolly still gunna do it!

As for character meet-ups, we have a few different options.

Morgan, being the ops person and a woman with her finger on the super-hero pulse of the city, could draw everyone together.

We could use the cartoon series staple of "big explosion make heroes go waaaaaah?"

There's a few more detailed starts I could see, but they require a little plotting between us; Morgan could be the super (lol) of Victoria's parents' building, and sees Victoria slipping out to patrol one night, quickly realizing which of the tenants she's looking at ... mostly ... Cheng isn't patrolling in hero-duds at this point, instead using his unique power to help people who have already been injured or harmed in the course of a crime, but he could happen across Bikki, who has been forced into something a little out of her league because she relies on robbing criminals for income. Emilio and Frank are both in university, it could very easily be the SAME university, and Frank would be known around campus for being that guy whose roommate got murdered, while Emilio might have a reputation around campus as a clumsy dude. That, or they could accidentally run into one another while returning from a patrol, or the initiating event crime. Alternatively, Emilio is clumsy, Cheng can heal people by biting them, so there's a pair. Frank might be in contact with Morgan through some kind of ... superhero tech subreddit. Bikki is homeless, and Victoria lives in the bad part of the city, so they could easily run into one another. It all depends how people wanna take it. Which reminds me ...

And ME ... I'm here ... I know a few of you are lurking, but this makes it suuuuper official, and lets me do this;

Talk amongst yourselves. You're about to be fighting crime together, makes sense to chat a little before hand, figure out some dynamics ^_^ The characters may be strangers in a big city, but hey ... small world :P

Well, I was thinking of having something like a domino effect. Maybe while Milo's working as a barista boy, his senses start acting up for some reason and his spider-grip latches onto the coffee that is coincidentally meant for____ *insert someone's character* And after some spilled coffee, a few apologies, maybe absolute chaos *insert character* goes on their way only for them to run into something (or someone) & have a similar problem. Then that character meets that character & so on and so forth. And then maybe they all run into each other while trying to fight some criminal? Like, the same one? I dunno, might be too complicated (or too simple?). Either way, we need some genius to put the pieces together & establish the woke spider-gang.

One elements of my initial plan is to keep the characters from revealing their identities to one another just yet ... I mean, they ARE all masked strangers as far as they know. Once the masks are off however, people recognizing one another can be a fun story element. Alternatively, characters could be purposefully obfuscative about their less-than-impressive life. Hell, maybe they out-and-out lie about their life. The one thing I won't stand is Orphaning ... purposefully making yourself the super-loner and making the party chase after you. Having the character flee from the group after a conflict is one thing, actively being the emo kid is another, and I will not stand by it >,<

MKTHNX!

Now, I suppose I should get the ball rolling by telling you where you might have spotted a little androgynous croupier before :p I find it's handiest to avoid talking about WHO your character is in this phase, and talk instead about what your character does. Everyone has habits, haunts, routines, safe places, and some of those places could be shared with other characters to form a casual friendship, rivalry, etc. Also super handy ... google maps for NYC ... anyway, you're all familiar with this process I'm sure, so I'munna go have a smoke, and then come back and list a few places you might have spotted Victoria :p

I might have something? In Spider-Verse, we see how people with realized powers can "sense" each other. That scene where the screen turns all colored when two Spideys face each other, and instinctively recognize them as something similar. (Of course, this is only if we wanna go the route of Morgan bringing people together.)

Two characters meet. Maybe we go with the coffee shop idea, where Milo and someone else make contact. The instinct hits them, but they don't know what it means and probably just shrug it off as nothing. Little do they know that a third party has picked up on their little exchange. Morgan, maybe tinkering with some sort of "sense-vision glasses," is in the same coffee shop and just happens to see an anomaly occur when two strangers make eye contact. They then go home and use their little gizmos to extend the range of their device, and maybe after a few days, the same anomaly gets picked up between another two people. She checks it out, starts stalking all four of them, and finds out they all have powers.

From there, IDK. I'd suggest CIA style kidnapping, but she doesn't have the powers/tech to restrain any of them.

I like the idea of spider sense giving a general idea that there's another superhuman around, but not the depth of detection that the Web of Life storyline lends spider-people, but I'm happy to allow spider-radar if people want a bit easier of a time getting the group together initially ^_^

We could dip into Exocat's background for some help here, since there's a shady paramilitary organization trying to capture her, and they might easily mistake any new spider-person as an escaped subject. Morgan could notice the increase in encrypted radio traffic and scrambled communications across the city, and once she decodes them she finds all this info on sightings of previously unseen spider-foes.

I also had an idea I wanted to put forward that, while there are all sorts of spider heroes suddenly, becoming a super-human in general has become a much more frequent occurrence, whether it be through mutation, super-science, or tech. That would mean more super criminals to contend with, and maybe go a ways to explain why a sudden team of superheroes isn't facing more persecution from the law :P

The story should be centered around Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx, but can stretch outward from there, and of course ... you can go anywhere in new york :3

PS: Victoria's haunts -

The New York Public Library - Since her post secondary plans were put on hold for financial reasons, she likes to spend any spare time locked up in the library reading up on her post-secondary interests, which have leaned heavily toward biochemistry for reasons you can likely guess.

The Big Deal Casino - During daytime hours on weekdays, when only the hopeless, the hapless, and professional gamblers can be found playing cards and craps, Victoria works as a croupier, a card dealer, which she hates for a myriad of reasons.

Family Dollar - A discount retailer ... hey, when you poor, you shop cheap ...

LeFrak Center and Prospect Park - Her time in hospital has given Victoria an appreciation for being outside, in the fresh air. The center also has a lovely cafe.

Cheng and where he hangs out:

The New York Public Library- He goes here for his Medicine research and study, free wifi and printers to use!

World Martial Arts Centre- He doesn't take classes but they let him use the dojo for practice after hours.

Family Dollar- He works here as a manager, trying to keep himself fed.

City University of New York- This is where he lives and studies most of his days.

@Robbie Aldridge : Did you want to run into each other some how? We can take some classes together maybe? Or maybe he finds Emilio injured?
@Sanity43217 : We could also maybe know each other from around Uni?
@exocat : Maybe I could run into you after you've been beat up?

Is there still time for one more dude to get into the action?
I'm not too familiar with Spiderman outside of the movies and cartoons, would this be a hindrance for the rest of you?

Cheshire wanted another person, anyway. Honestly, I don't know all that much either, but we're not really operating by the source material other than the spider theme. There's no Peter Parker or anyone in his Rogues Gallery, just us. We won't be sticklers if you make up your piece of lore.

ty, I'll write out a character sheet then. Apologies up front if it's not 2 good, I've rarely done one of these group things before

Milo's hot spots:

  • The Starbucks on Broadway. Yes, the one that's open 24 hours a day. Thank god Milo can always brew himself coffee on those longer shifts

  • Central Park. Milo can be found sitting on one of the several park benches, doodling on one of his days off. Or when he's desperate & in need for consolation, he takes one of his nightly strolls around the enormous park

  • NYU Langone Health, Science building. This is where Milo spends his time majority of the day, researching alongside a team of experts & one haughty professor

  • Home. Milo can get a bit tired of the city, hell, sometimes he just misses his family. And whenever that happens, he takes the long ass transit to Queens

@MindLabryinth They're in different universities (I think?) So I'm not sure about that idea. Milo being injured is a possibility though~

I don't know. I have to think about it and figure it out.

Bikki's routine locations:

The New York City subway system - Bikki uses it to travel and she likes to blend in with the crowds. She hides in the subway's disused stations and passages.

Coney Island - Bikki likes the beach, and sometimes she goes to Coney Island to walk along the boardwalk and pretend to be normal.

Manhattan - the varied neighborhoods of Manhattan give Bikki enough of a territory to stay anonymous, but also feel like an environment she can come to know and be familiar with. She has a circuit of restaurants and supermarkets she goes to to get food after things get thrown out.

Central Park - Bikki likes to walk in the park like a normal person, and the trees and foliage make her feel like she can lose pursuers if she needs to.

Times Square - When Bikki needs cash, this is where she looks for trouble.

Greenwich Village - Another neighborhood where Bikki finds hidden places to sleep.

Colleges and universities - Bikki tries to blend in with the students and sleep in the library.

Soup kitchens and other homeless support facilities.

@MindLabryinth Hmm, I don't know about that, a strange man trying to put his mouth on Bikki would really scare her. There's a possible crossover location with CUNY, but CUNY is made up of something like 20 campuses with 275,000 students. We'd have to pick a campus.

Let's try to make sure there's a little bit of plausibility in the way the characters meet and form a team.

Nope, wouldn't be a hindrance for me at least. Send a PM to @Cheshire Cat and get her guidance on power levels, character concept, and all that good stuff.

Places Frank hangs out
  1. University, spends most of his time at Uni. Either sitting I. Lectures, sometimes not even ones for his course, he had just fallen asleep in his lecture and the next one had started. Or in the library, trying to study, but often falling asleep.
  2. The cemetery. Not the most upbeat place, but since his powers started developing, he has spoken to his old roommate's grave to gain new perspectives.
  3. The public library, often just for a change of scenery from the University library. Probably fallen asleep on a book he was reading.
  4. Any number of nightclub, as a college kid, he goes out and parties a lot.

Soooo, I hope everyone has the thread "Watched" by now, a question to everyone;

What kind of atmosphere does everyone want?
For something cinematic and fantastic, we could do something like a run-in with Mysterio, or for something dark we could do escaped symbiotes or a murder plot or ... I have a lot of dark ideas, or for something a little more lighthearted we could do something like the Rhino on the loose and a crime conspiracy ... What's everyone feeling?

I'm all for light hearted spider shenanigans.

Note// I still haven't seen Far From Home, so if anyone spoils it for me, I'll murder you. I'm waiting for my brother to get back from deployment so we can watch it together.
