Black Dahlia Says Goodbye

Morning Sanctum Dwellers and of course, newly joined Dahlias

As a lot of you probably know by now, Black Dahlia Roleplaying has announced they are closing their doors after eight years. We've known their admins since the start and know that a lot of Sactumites have a second home there. We wish them the best.

In order to help create a smooth transition, I figured it would make sense to collate information together. Also to serve as a heads-up for anyone here who missed the BD announcement, so as to give them time to claim their work before the September 25th deadline. As of right now, all information on the site will be deleted after that date, so be certain to grab anything (or anyone) you might want later.

First! For those of you who were on BD, even if you haven't been active there recently, we have the Site Update - Sanctum Immigration Roster Basically, post in there to make it easy for anyone who might be looking to find you.

Second, to help our new users feel at home, you are able to select a new site theme at the bottom left of the site or on your preferences page.

Of particular relevance is Nightshade. It started life as a theme we made for the Dahlia admins when the 2.3 update cost them most of theirs, but since they didn't end up using it, we didn't want it to go to waste.

Third! As some of you probably noticed, we have badges here (I think the same add-on BD did, actually). Well, one of them is for inviting a new member. So if you invited someone or someone invited you, let us know so we can award our corrupting influence badge. And if you know anyone from BD, be sure to help them find their way to us. They have suspended their rules regarding off-site links, so feel free to directly message your partners and friends there.

You can also get the badge automatically by using your referral link, which you can find on the sidebar. If someone signs up with it, the badge will award automatically.

Lastly, be sure to review our site rules. For those who are used to BDs rules, you will find them substantively similar, but to emphasize the one major difference, we do not allow roleplaying in Private Messages. This not only makes rule enforcement easier, but puts everyone on even footing regarding public display of their work and encourages putting their best work out there.

In addition, take a glance at our helpful site guide to get a glance at some of our features, many of them unique to the Sanctum Resource - A Helpful User Guide- now with pictures !

If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Either message a member of staff (purple for admins, blue for mods, green for heralds, pink for the crazy artist who keeps making themes) or ask in chat, someone can point you where you need to be.

DB mods stated that it was due to personal medical and financial reasons, citing the unstable economy and uncertainty for the future and that they can no longer continue with the LLC. I think its crazy because the site just recently shifted hands and now its closing for good after all the time updating and migrating the server.

Recent cancellations of federal programs along with the overall decline and unpredictability of the economy, have forced the decision to close the LLC that holds the licenses and service contracts that allow the site to operate and exist."
 
That is terrible news, another good RP site is vanishing into the wind. I roleplayed on BD for the longest time before taking a break from writing. I would still be on there if I hadn't forgotten my password. I tried to find a way to retrieve it, but was unable to do so through the recovery system for some reason.

Hopefully, everyone on there finds a good place to RP and are able to continue their stories. On the brighter side of things, we will be able to welcome more writers to the Sanctum family, or at least that is my hope.

I know Flannel King struggle-bussed it for a while over there and I commend he and his team for doing the best they could as things got tough for them. Loved them all while I was there and wrote some of the most exciting stories ever with some excellent writers, all of whom I hope find their way here and fit in seamlessly.

I hope to see them ALL transition to this wonderful community as well, because they deserve as lovely a home as this one is to so many other writers. Let's make their transition a delight, because it's the least we can do.

So sad to see BD is closing its doors, as it was one of my favorite roleplaying sites when I first started writing adult stories on the forum circuit. I was pretty helpful as a Community Helper before the group got disbanded, and I had a blast working alongside many wonderful people.

Inner Sanctum is the perfect alternative for those who are looking for a new site to write on. 💎
 
I was never active on BD though I was aware of it considering that there remains only so few places left for play-by-post forum style roleplay anymore. Sad to see that number grows ever smaller as time continues to march on.

On the upside, welcome to all our BD refugees. You'll find a bunch of passionate and creative people here. Hopefully you'll find space for potentially even more thrilling stories to craft with all our talented folks.

If you have a good working relationship with the BD admins, let me suggest checking with them to see if they will sell or transfer you the domain. Besides the boost that WS might get from having the traffic redirect here, if their plan is to otherwise let the domain expire at some point, a highly trafficked domain name like theirs is likely to get quickly scooped up by bots or some other kind of bad actor

This is actually a really good idea.
