Insight Character Creation Q&A

can we leave the race of the character vague, if we want it to be revealed later, or it being a mystery ? as in the character having a human appearance, but not necessarily being human. also, does the race have to be an existing one, or can we take creative liberties ? without creating gods, or races that are overpowered and would break the rules of course.

Character sheets are not "known information to everyone", they are a clarification (largely for rules and setting based information). These can be vague within reason, but as an example, if you leave "race" as "unknown" that unknown cannot later be "dragon/god/vampire". It can be something nondescript and basic (human or half-elf, for example). Otherwise, that's generally fine.

Hello.

I have an unfinished character creation that is outside of the Outer Sanctum. I am not sure if I made him too powerful to fit into this setting. What are my boundaries?

I designed him in a way where his physical condition and combat skills are already at the max from the beginning by the standards of real life athletics and real life combat sports (boxing, MMA, kendo, et cetera). On top of that, I gave him powerful tools for success. His weapons and armor are as standard as can be, but his alchemy makes him a little over-powered by "beginner adventurer" standards. I am afraid he might not even be approved.

But can he?

Thank you.

Another question related to the above.

Can I bring that character of mine into the roleplay while having the same backstory that I made for him? I want to portray him as if he was "Isekaied" into the Outer Sanctum world. Is that okay as long as I keep his real backstory a mystery most of the time? Or all of the time?

Thank you.

The Outer Sanctum is it's own place and does not exist concurrent to other worlds. Only original characters are permitted and those characters are subject to approval.

What you are describing is well beyond what most people in the setting ever achieve in their lives. As a general guide, a "level 1 D&D character" would be a good estimation of roughly where you would be in terms of power levels. This is to say, "probably slightly better than a completely normal person" but still with everything ahead of them.

Hello! Very new to the concept of the Outer Sanctumn. I've also never played D&D before so I am the greenest twig you've ever seen. I've read the rules and Q&A's, just trying to figure it all out before I make a character.

Are characters allowed to be royalty? A princess for example. I kinda just want to play a pretty princess who drinks wine, embroiders, and gossips with court ladies all day, then sneaks into the city for excitement by night.

Here are some little things I was wondering about while posting my character...

1. Is the 'Origin' sections meant to refer to one of the established locations in the world? Such as Khere, Tethis, The Infinite Wilds?
2. Can 'Role', 'Abilities', and 'Occupation' sometimes be merged into one? In my mind they basically refer to what the character normally does and what they are good at.
3. When the rules say that all characters need to have have a character sheet, where is the line between actual player characters and minor side characters? For example, does an army general who only has a few lines of dialogue before sending the main characters on their way need a character sheet?
4. How much work should we put into updating a character sheet as the story progresses? And does it need to be approved after each edit? For example, learning to wield a sword, or gaining a new significant item, or leaving home to become a sorceress, or making a new friend... does it require an update?
Very helpful, thank you.
