History: Shiva was raised by the protection of nature itself. Abandoned by her mother and father who she never knew, she grew up raised by animals. Learning how to survive in the wilds of the forests until she came upon a camp of dalish elves at the age of 5. Curious as to who these other beings were that looked like her, she explored the camp, to run into their leader, who decided to adopt her once he saw how talented Shiva would become. Teaching her to speak, training her to be an Efl, and showing her their history, Shiva grew to appreciate the leader of the clan like a father, Zarterrin. She followed him everywhere hanging on his every word. When she came of age at 16, she was chosen as the guardian of their people. With an uncanny ability to draw out physical energy called chi.

Using her unusual powers and led by Zarterrin, she trained every day to become strong, quick, and agile. Training with swords, axes, scythes, bows, shields, and hammers. Her fists were always her preferred weapons. The ability to channel her chi into her body made her a crushing force to come across. Living this way for the next 6 years, her world was shattered by a man named duncan calling upon her to be a grey warden. She refused, but knew she needed to protect her people from the roving darkspawn on their way. She agreed.

Everything fell apart at ostagar though. The darkspawn created a surprise attack and everyone was killed, except for her. Injured, unconscious, and lying in a pool of darkspawn filth and blood, it dripped into her mouth. Awakening to her own screams and body crawling with a fire she had never felt, the corruption inside of her took hold.

History: Born in Denerim, Travis and his family made a modest living running a small stall in the local market. Life changed when his father's bad habit of gambling away the businesses profits came to a head in the form of a loan shark and gang boss by the name of Gerald Flynn. After roughing up his father in front of the young lad they promptly took away the stall to pay for what was owed. Travis' father disappeared the next day, leaving him and his mother to take any work available to keep a roof over their heads. His mother passed from illness some three years later, leaving an orphaned boy to be kicked out onto the streets. Luckily he was picked up by the Friends of Red Jenny who could find a use for small children capable of getting into small places. Like the open windows of shops, for example.

Trained as a thief and a fighter, Travis grew to be a somewhat respected man in the eyes of the poor and oppressed of Denerim; taking to heart the mantra of 'sticking it to the tyrannical and caring for the little guy' he was happy in his new role until a botched job put the Denerim guard on his trail. Believing that discretion was the better part of valour. Travis made a hasty exit from the city and decided to seek new employment. Maybe hiding among the ranks of the soldiery could grant him the anonymity he craved.

Hey, what could do wrong?

Accepted! Feel free to post! If you need a catch-up, shoot me a dm.

Cool.

We got the group together pretty quick didn't we? I applaud efficiency in storytelling.

I'm pretty sure this is the case but to clarify; Shiva has become a grey warden by swallowing the ogre's blood at Ostagar right? She's not dying of the taint.

Yep, we are doing a modified version of the Joining instead of all the fancy stuff and Archdemon blood just guzzle Darkspawn blood and hope for the best or die.

Anyone want to cast a vote on where the group heads to next? Redcliffe would be the obvious choice in-keeping with the original narrative. Given the connections Shiva and Vasara have to the Dalish that would also be a strong option.

Either way I think a nice getting-to-know-you camping scene after departing from Lothering would be a good next move.

Vasara has no connection to the Dalish or City elves. She existed before they broke up into those two groups. She has very little respect for both groups.

First thing Marian wants to do is get her mother set up in Denerim for safety. After that I suggest doing things in geographical order, the Dalish, Redcliffe, Circle, Orzammar.

When I start posting Sereda's side story, more time will have passed for her than everyone else. Her origin story in DAO required a lot more travel time to get to Ostagar than the others so I am thinking for her by the Battle of Ostagar at least a month has passed. It takes 2 weeks 4 days to go from Orzammar to the CIrcle tower based on what Dagna said (not sure if she was speaking round trip or one way). So Orzammar to Ostagar imo should be about a month.

I would've thought being an elf alone would qualify as a connection. Especially since the Dalish in particular are looking to regain the knowledge their people lost so they'd probably look to Vasara as a mental treasure trove. That could be a really interesting scene to play out in the future, especially if there are detractors who refuse to believe it.

Denerim is geographically the furthest place from the party's current location. If we head there first we should cut the travel time down to a few days for simplicities sake; otherwise we'd be giving the darkspawn months and months to overrun Ferelden. For efficiencies sake it would make sense for the group to visit locations as their route takes them.

So, if headed to Denerim from Lothering: Dalish forest, Denerim.
Alternatively; Redcliffe, Circle Tower, Denerim.
Or, if we want to take a longer route; Redcliffe, Orzammar, Circle Tower, Denerim.

Also @Zepharius , do we have a cap on how many pc's we get?

I agree with Rothwell's reasoning. Denerim make sense for Marian's personal objectives but unless we cut down travel time, I can't see the rest of the party prioritizing Leandra's escort while the darkspawn gain a foothold. Unless of course we first stop at the Dalish on the way. Or if safe passage is arranged for Leandra through outside means, such as a trusted caravan headed north, more than happy to start with Redcliffe. Just my two cents.

The Dalish village is relatively safe it's when the Dalish leave the village to go deeper into the forest it becomes dangerous.

There is another option. Marian takes her mother to Denerim gets her set up somewhere then meets up with the others later. She actually never vowed/pledged/agreed to help, she will she just has one thing on her mind at the moment.

As for the Darkspawn overrunning Ferelden:
Blight Lengths:
First Blight: 192 years to end
Second Blight: 90 years to end (this one took 47% of the time it took the first to end)
Third Blight: 15 years to end (this one took 17% of the time it took the second to end)
Fourth Blight: 12 years to end (this one took 80% of the time it took the third to end)

Sure each one takes less and less time, they would be fools to think they could stop it without years of fighting. IMO Origins really messed up ending the first blight within a year.

Sixth Blight should take a few months. Seventh Blight a few days. Eighth Blight a few hours. You see the pattern.

The pattern does show reducing numbers, but in the game it was a matter of days, weeks at the most for the darkspawn to destroy Ostagar, then Lothering. Logically in the time it takes for a party to do a round trip like Redcliffe to Denerim to Orzammar then back to Redcliffe the horde should've overrun half the map.

Which brings up the plot hole in the game I already mentioned to Annix. Where are the Darkspawn after Lothering's fall? Besides the odd encounter and running into them in the Deep Roads (where they always are) they don't mount a major offense until the end of the game. Seems like a pretty big oversight to me. Another point would be the lack of a civil war. Loghain just sat back and schemed until the landsmeet instead of fighting battles to bring naysayers into line.

So how about in the interests of deviating from the game's plot and adding some realism. We throw in areas that are being besieged by the Archdemon's forces? Or create some major battles in the field as human lords try to repel the encroaching threat. or fight each other over different opinions on Loghain. Maybe even add a few new towns/cities to the map for this purpose. As time passes the roads can become progressively more dangerous, more corrupted by the topside presence of the horde. Slowly turning Derelden into a Hellscape which it never was in the game. This can give us a bigger time frame to tell the story and will easily accommodate Hawke taking her mother to Denerim too. Although simply putting Leandra on a wagon would resolve the issue without splitting her from the group.

You choice of course. That's a beauty of free form. :)

Marian would never agree to just send her mother off by herself.

There is another idea. In DA2 the Hawke family foes to Kirkwall via Gwaren (SP? Loghain's arling) that is very close to the Dalish forest. As far as I know that town never experienced any Darkspawn threat. Marian could take her to Gawaren while the others are dealing with the Dalish.

Once Leandra is settled Marian can join them with the Dalish.

@Annix Bethany was actually 19. Not much difference. Also Duncan didn't think it would be easy. The King thought it was easy and not a Blight. Duncan thought it was a Blight but couldn't ask the king to do anything differently without proof.

I'll change Bethany's age. As for the Grey Wardens, Mina can be misinformed :)
