Exactly what it says in the title^

I've only got the bare bones of the idea so far, but I thought I'd cast around to see if anyone would be interested in starting a writing for a Skyrim rpg?

Story Concept: The story begins with the characters being recruited into a mercenary regiment during the civil war questline (anyone familiar with Berserk; Golden Age?). The questline would be set some time before the arrival of Alduin, with the Dragonborn being revealed at a later date. The first part of the story would be told as a long campaign; pitched battles, sieges, infiltration and specialist missions with lull periods where the characters can get to know each other and evolve.

Restrictions: Any playable race is fine. Yes, your character can have a werewolf or vampire condition if you like as both are canon. As far as builds are concerned, I'll make a follow up post for guidelines for the sake of balancing the game.

This won't be starting for a while yet. But if you're interested, make yourselves known. :)

You know I am.

You're all welcome to join. :)

Ok, so:

Character Creation Guidelines:

Abilities

In the interests of not making characters OP I thought putting in a rough 'points' type system to give us an idea of what the characters could reasonably do. Everyone gets 14 points each for abilities and what they translate to is:

1- Novice
2-Apprentice
3- Adept
4- Expert
5- Master (locked at start)

So characters have a minimum of 4 specialities and a max of 7. For example:

Imperial Warrior

One handed- expert (4)
Heavy armour- expert (4)
Block- adept (3)
Archery- apprentice (2)
Alchemy- novice (1)

So this character would be excellent in melee and making the most of wearing heavy armour. They'd be talented at deflecting enemy attacks. Could use a bow in a pinch and occasionally ineptly mix up potions in their spare time.

This would just be a starting point for the character on the understanding that they can improve with hard work over time.

Background

The level of detail you wish to go into with your character's background is up to you. If you have things about them you'd rather keep secret for later intrigue that's fine with me. I'd just ask you give an overview of who they are and some notable events that led them to signing up for the mercenary unit.

Again this is just a basic frame work I came up with so feel free to add your own ideas.

A bigger question is: Would these adventurers beings hired on as mercenaries be fighting for the stormcloaks or the imperials?

I always play as a Stormcloak.

I can never side with an Empire, thanks to Star Wars.

Mercenaries fighting for a rebel who would be High King? It would work tonally.

What do the rest of you think?

In my last playthrough, I was going to do a Dragonborn that sided with the Empire but somehow very early in the game I pissed off a plot required character and nothing made them friendly so I gave up.

That's fanart of a Drukhari from Warhammer 40K, it's not a named character so maybe you've just seen it before?
Probably just seen it before. Never heard of Drukhari before. Never played Warhammer.

I'd be fine with either faction. But i'd like to point out that, if we are to portrait a mercenary group, the characters should already know each other and have worked together for a while. I doubt people like papa bear and general grumpypants would hire a group they haven't heard of before. Perhaps everyone has their own reason to join and just end up in the same squad by coincidence instead? Those are just my thoughts on the matter.

I think the idea I had was that the warring factions were hiring sellswords to bolster their ranks and swing the balance of power in the civil war. But it'd be absolutely fine for the bulk of the unit to be made of a mercenary company who knew each other previously. It would also leave room for more lone wanderer type characters to join for fame and fortune.

I personally side with Empire whenever I play Skyrim, but I'm not going to pull teeth over it.

1 for Stormcloaks, 1 for Empire, 2 ambivalent about it. Since I'm not bothered and Archon isn't bothered...

I'm flipping a coin! Vas or Orthodox! Someone call it!

An AA coin. The one I got given after 3 months of sobriety.
I was referring to OrthodoxOxymoron's avatar. Guess I should have made that clearer.
