• Hair Style: The 'titus', a rebellious short, and shaggy style. Inspired by roman statues, those brazen enough to wear it are often seen as rebellious or eccentric. In Emrafah's case, she simply finds it easier to maintain and thus, she would more appropriately fall into the latter category. Of course wigs are always an option in a pinch if the occasion warrants it.
• Distinctions: Large beseeching and haunting eyes, often gives off the impression of innocence but observer beware.
• Clothing: Outsiders will have noticed by now a gradual tilt into eccentricity in the Lady's choices in style. Her preferences when it comes to fashion, quite characteristically, changes on a whim and she is not embarrassed to experiment, a privilege she can afford due to her good standing in society, within court and with all thanks due to her father and late husband. (Now, if she can just manage to maintain the privilege on her own merits - and that of her vast fortune - has yet to be seen.) She has of late, taken to powdering and painting her face as if in nod to bygone eras, or even daresay, to the women of a lower caste. Her envelope-pushing when it comes to her trials in appearance are commonly forgiven and have even sparked a number of fads among the coutiers. Trendsetting aside, what is not common knowledge regarding her sartorial expressions is that it is likely strongly influenced by her prolonged usage of opium.

PERSONALITY. ​

• *Personality: Emra - as friends are prone to call her - is an exquisitely charming and generous ally. Her ability to laugh, love and to not take life too seriously is a strange talent indeed in these buttoned up and patriarchal times. She is known to be sharp of wit and exceedingly candid. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Emrafah can be a formidable foe who does not flinch easily and does not like to lose.
• *Loves: Peonies, the extraordinary, reading, disillusionment, the night sky (lesser luminaries in particular), the taboo, magic, games, belly laughs, wine, macrons, rain, velvet, rodents, spiders, watching innocence fade to make way for something remarkably better, and the esoteric
• *Hates: the necessity for pretense, being condescended to, being taken for weak, tears (her own and others)
• Habits: her eye contact is unparalleled and she will use it to her advantage, as well as her amazing poker face she likes to tease people with for her own amusement.

BIOGRAPHY. ​

• *House Hyzenthlay : The Hyzanthlay's were a respectable house and considered irreplaceable within their community, in no small part owed to Lord Hyzanthlay making good use of his leyline ability. He became known as a dream doctor, a title that never sat entirely too comfortably with the Lord but was allowed to persist as it helped him find favor in the eyes of the gentry and eventually, the crown. The King had suffered from night terrors for years and thought beyond all hope until word of a physician of dreams began to spread through court, and it wasn't long before Lord Hyzanthlay was able to procure favor with the royal family itself. Consequently, all at once he became a familiar face among the courtiers at the palace and often, on such occasions that he was called to court he would bring with him his only child and inherent of his leyline, Emrafah, who learned his trade and through this tutelage grew to become even more adept than he. It would be at court that Emrafah would be introduced to the much older Marquess Blanchard and though it was not love that would sprout, there was a fruitful arrangement to be struck.
• *Leyline Type: The Marchioness can create and manipulate her own dreams and that of others. She can even influence people by placing messages deep within the subconscious of a sleeping person while they dream. Depending on how deep in thought a person is at any given time there is the potential to manipulate daydreams as well, although this is harder to accomplish as one might suspect, it is not impossible. She can also conjure specific or non-specific nightmares or conversely, can promote specific or non-specific spiritual or emotional healing in a person through their dreams. Further, it is possible for Emrafah to step inside a dreamscape with or without the dreamers knowledge and as one can imagine this holds an array of potentialities, both lovely and devastating depending on the goal (or price paid).
• *Reputation & Rumors: The Marquess Blanchard had always a reputation for generosity. He donated frequently to charity and built several schools plus a hospital, even extending his benevolence to the individual poor, taking in wards from the local towns he saw promise in. He would in such cases help the entire family where needed and within reason, all of which cemented his standing amongst the commoners and gentry as a man with an abundant heart and a purse to match. The obtaining of his families wealth being no secret as he was an avid investor with a good eye for talent and "betting on the right horse". As such a man, he once served as trusted counselor to his Majesty before his illness became of the dire sort. At the height of his ailment it was Emrafah who eased her husbands suffering by entering into his dreams to comfort him and in the end helped to usher him unto the waiting arms of death. Though their marriage had never transformed into the type of love longed for by romantics at heart, the love that had developed had taken a lovely shape all of its own.
• *Upbringing: Emrafah's upbringing as an only child had been radiant, and as the apple of her fathers eyes she was treated like a princess and spoiled to the heavens. Her gift became apparent as a child when, for a period of time all she wanted to do was sleep. Where at first it was thought that the young girl had fallen into sickness it was soon discovered that she had been sneaking laudanum from her fathers cabinet of tinctures to induce sleep wherein she could live fantastical and romantic adventures to her hearts content. Upon questioning the girl, it was clear her dreams were not of the same mundane sort as others and that in fact, she had inherited her fathers leyline. Unfortunately, her acquired taste for laudanum would follow her into her adult years and beyond.
• Current Stakes: Emra, though in no real need of money since her husbands passing, has yet created a lucrative business for herself as - what she calls - a 'Dream Guide', in which she has followed in her late fathers footsteps most proudly. She is looking forward to this season not out of any personal, romantical curiosity but more so as an opportunity to expand her business and make connections. Even if money does not exchange hands, a trade could be just as seductive. After all, the young and clumsy in love could find themselves at a disadvantage in seeking a mate if not for a little 'guidance'. A note should be entered into the record that Emrafah has not written off love for herself entirely, she's just placed it behind other priorities. Yet if love did see fit to cross her path she would not go out of her way to dodge it.

Appearance

Aspen is moderately heighted at 5'11, relatively lithe and slim of build. He more frequently than not allows his face to be decorated by a light scruff, which he never lets grow out into something that can be pulled or otherwise styled. Aspen walks with one hand in his pocket, a playful strut and greets with a ready, bright grin, though his vibrantly amber eyes are almost always concealed by a pair of dark teashades that he will have donned even indoors. His hair is typically shoulder length, brushed and straight, with a dark brown tone that matches the scruff on his face.⠀

As all born to the Kyulis leyline are, Aspen was born with vibrantly amber eyes, denoting the active magic of his heritage. These eyes appear otherwise quite typical to human physiology. He is otherwise unmarred, with few scars to speak of and even fewer blemishes, the questionable heir having lived the majority of his life peacefully, albeit not without political and familial tensions.

Though he may have once tried to avoid caving into the habits of his family, Aspen came to appreciate their flashy or colorful projection. Aspen will be found almost inevitably in dashing, bright vests and eye-catching shirts with alluring frills and deep collars that relish in his lithe physique. Though he doesn't tend to splash too many colors at once into a single outfit, his wardrobe is quite colorful, and there isn't a general shade that he hasn't been spotted in. Additionally, though it is not common practice for the adults of the Kyulis family leyline, Aspen frequently hides his eyes behind a veil of dark teashades, and unless he is in intimate company, he will wear these obscuring shades even indoors and on overcast, gloomy days.

Aspen loves to decorate himself and tends to wear jewelry that suits the colors he's adorned for the day comfortably. Necklaces to complement his low necklines, anywhere between two to four rings adorning each hand, bracelets and anklets alike, and so on. Personality

Aspen is playfully dismissive, a life of open disappointment by his peers and family dulling his sense of duty in spite of their lingering affection and love for him. He's a tad spoiled, and even without the use of his leyline, he is accustomed to finding things going his way in social regards. As such, Aspen is charming, impulsive and playful, but he can be dismissive, not realize when he's coming off as apathetic or cynical. In spite of this shortcoming, he wants to be kind and can be swiftly guilted after hurting someone's feelings or realizing that he has done wrong. He is generally welcoming to those from any and all walks of life, but the more attached to duty, responsibility or leyline heritage that people are, the less interested in them Aspen becomes, his mood souring hastily when such topics begin to dominate the room. Aspen is a good vibe, but he tends to go out of his way to avoid, dodge or fumble any sense of responsibility that can be thrust upon him, making him an unreliable heir to the Kyulis household.

Aspen is a fan of the arts and has spent countless hours experimenting with those that resonate best with him, the most consistent of which has been the violin. He enjoys swordplay as a hobby, but he is not a dedicated fencer or combatant, much preferring to put his charm and wit to the test than his arm. Aspen gets along swiftly with free spirits and those with open hearts and minds. He can perform as the life of any party, but he prefers smaller gatherings that he can entertain and engage with people much more personally, where he can earn the admiration of his peers with various practices and skills in just about any way that excludes his leyline.

Aspen dislikes haughtiness when it is specifically attached to a person's heritage or leyline. Despite his outgoing nature, he doesn't like to share about or have his family life pried into, and he has a natural distaste for order and cannot stand to be bored. He dislikes being alone and tends to overcorrect when he is unskilled at a particular skill or art, finding discomfort in the idea that he might become a public spectacle if he fails to put a strong attempt into any hobby that he might become known for. In direct contrast to that, Aspen is not skilled at wielding his leyline in spite of his age, and he hates to be reminded of this fact. He dislikes the expectation that he should be mastering his leyline as the current eldest child of the head of the Kyulis estate, but the pity or disappointment of his family irks him even further.

Aspen is a quick learner, gifted with a swift wit. He's full of whimsy and charm, finding social spaces to be his strong suit, and his dedication to various crafts and arts have lent him a quick, deft pair of hands that can express many arts and play a wide variety of instruments, though none more impressively than the violin.

Weaknesses⠀✦

Aspen is something of a failure with his leyline, and is incredibly insecure about his inability to master control over his remarkable eyes and their ability to affect and influence the emotions of others. Contrary to being incapable of using his leyline, he finds himself incapable of stopping, with every person who meets his eyes being instinctually nudged to mirror or mimic his own mood (hence the constant use of shades to put a barrier between he and those that might otherwise be affected). Boredom and loneliness can ruin his drive, and he's too impulsive to be considered reliable. Despite his learned cynicism, he is quick to guilt and shame and finds personal discomfort in being the subject of peoples' disappointment, so he tends to overcorrect for the sake of others when he wants to be on their good side or impress them. Despite this, he has a shaky relationship with his family, and he fears that their affection for him will one day run out as they come to terms with his unwillingness to wed and his inability to master moodweaving.

Aspen likes to be clean, presentable and alluring, resulting in a habitual morning ritual that involves extensive fussing over how he's going to capture the attention of whatever peers he deigns to put himself in front of for the day. To the people of the royal capital, the Kyulis family is something of a curiosity. Their ability to influence the emotional state of the people that lock eyes with their peculiar amber irises is as varied in its application as it is disliked by the majority of the people. Most who interact with the family would report nothing short of an affable encounter with relatively traditional and very dedicated loyalists, but there's always been the lingering discomfort with the concept that any encounter with a Kyulis can be suspect given the nature of their abilities. Hailing originally from another land, the Kyulis blood and leyline alike has prospered in the kingdom of Elyria at the will of the royals, who accepted the Kyulis into their borders some generations past. Since then, many of the Kyulis line have enjoyed positions of mild political import, serving as ambassadors and taking similar roles on as needed to serve the kingdom's interests. Though eye contact is necessary for the Kyulis line's moodweave to begin influencing the emotions of other people, this power has proven itself invaluable for various purposes, and while there is no public proof of such, rumors have long floated around in years past about the peculiar Kyulis leyline and their potential involvement in political subterfuge, dealings and things of similar natures. Despite this, the members of the Kyulis household seem very polite and friendly, the common expectation for members of the house including the donning of colorful, bright colors and a quick and easy smile. In short, Kyulis house members may not always adhere to this rule, but there is a high likelihood that despite the unnerving fear of their power influencing every encounter that they have, or perhaps even in response to this fear, they will greet pleasantly and frequently, wear bright and exciting clothing and offer you nothing but politeness.

The intricacies of Aspen's childhood may not be commonly known, but it is no secret that the young heir is something of a disappointment to the house. It is not quite public knowledge as to why this is, but it is public knowledge that Aspen is more or less incapable of mastering his abilities. Some speculate that this means he cannot use them at all, while others have whispered that perhaps it means he can only use his power for limited ranges of emotion that prove useless in society, but whatever the case, the Kyulis head maintains high expectations for his firstborn son, and they have yet to be met. On the contrary, the younger siblings that have taken to the Kyulis leyline all seem to be more or less on track with where the expectation lies, but as Aspen aged, he took to rebellion more naturally than he did obeisance, and as such, it is more or less common knowledge that Aspen, despite being the eldest of his siblings, is the least reliable Kyulis representative to engage with.

All the same, he knows that his parents love him regardless of his failings, and he intends to indulge them minimally in their attempts to mingle and socialize him.

Moodweave⠀✦

The Kyulis leyline manifests as vibrant, amber colored eyes and acts as an emotional manipulation. If one locks eyes even for a brief moment with a member of the Kyulis line, they can have their emotional state nudged, heavily influenced or otherwise manipulated by the wielder of the Kyulis Moodweave, making the Kyulis line particularly potent with social endeavors, political intricacies and according to rumors, matters of subterfuge. All the same, this leyline represents few, if any, combative properties and aggressive applications of this magic have not been explored by the Kyulis line since their acceptance into Elyria. To those aware of the Kyulis ability (which includes the vast majority of the Elyrian nobility), it is of note that a stark weakness of the Kyulis moodweave is that awareness of their intent can more or less make the emotional manipulation useless. An individual is never stripped of will when under moodweave's influence, and therefore can willingly choose to oppose their own feelings out of fear of being manipulated. As such, many people dislike making dealings with the Kyulis house simply out of fear that their eagerness to accept any dealings made were influenced in some way. The house is nevertheless in very good standing, and goes out of its way to ensure the comfort of their fellow houses (to the best of their abilities).

Reputation⠀✦

Aspen is known to be very friendly, but indulgent, eager to please and amuse himself. He is gentle and playful, but it isn't a secret that his grasp over the Kyulis Moodweave is unstable or weak in some manner, so it has always become something of an expectation to find him in teashades that obscure his eyes and otherwise dampen the leyline's application. Whether or not people believe that he is spiteful of his house seems to vary based on who is asked, but he is nevertheless known to be a relatively passive individual with more interest in intrigue and pleasure than noble expectations.

Rumors⠀✦

The rumors revolving around Aspen himself are simple and repetitive; failure-cum-vagrant, the house might replace him as heir with a younger sibling capable of wielding the moodeweave properly, whispers about his comings and goings and so forth. The house, however, has its own share of rumors circulating, primarily more about the potential of house Kyulis' abilities as opposed to anything with legitimate evidence. Due to the nature of the Kyulis leyline, it's not difficult to imagine what sort of underhanded boons they may have reaped or what methods that they may have used to ascend to nobility generations ago, and there are always tall tales to be told about the services that they may be offering to the kingdom in exchange for their comfort and safety in Elyria. Nevertheless, there remains nothing substantiated about the less savory rumors, save for a few bad apples scattered about the last hundred years or so, and the Kyulis house remains on good, if not tentative terms with just about every other house they associate with. Their jovial, polite and level-headed demeanors work wonders on the peoples' speculation, though there will always be those with doubt in their hearts and mischief on their minds.
