Blue Moon Diner
A terrifying murder mystery set in a Route 66 diner in 1960.

The staff of this remote diner are gripped with fear- a serial killer is on the loose, working his way up and down their stretch of New Mexico highway, tearing his victims to shreds like an animal... or, to be more specific, a wolf... the Navajo claim its the work of a Skinwalker, the kids in town believe it may be a Werewolf, but the local Highway Patrolman is too rational to consider such silly explanations.

On a busy Saturday night in December, a body is discovered in the parking lot, and realizing that no cars have left the lot and that the killer couldn't have left on foot, the highway patrolman takes a dramatic step to catch the killer- at gunpoint, he forbids anyone from leaving the diner until the murderer is identified.

Little does he know that he's up against no ordinary killer...
Little does he know that the diner houses other, secret horrors...
And least of all does he expect the evil that can spread when regular people are afraid.

Characters (Any one player may take up to THREE)
•The Patrolman (A main character who is definitely not the werewolf/skinwalker)
•The Diner Owner (A main character who is definitely not the wolf but has horrible secrets of her own)
•The Patrolman's rebelious son (May be the wolf!)
•Waitresses (Any one may be the wolf! One of them dates the Patrolman's son!)
•Cooks (Any one may be the wolf!)
•Any traveling patron; salespeople, religious missionaries, hitchhikers, prostitutes, retired tourists, just about anyone you can think of! (Any one may be the wolf!)

Rules
•Once we've all claimed our characters, each one will be assigned a number, and an impartial trusted party (not playing) will randomly select one of those numbers and notify the appropriate player. That way, the wolf/killer's identity will be a surprise to all of the other writers!
•If you're playing as the wolf, please have that character do everything in their power to avoid being caught for as long as possible. Aside from being a very realistic character motivation, it will make the 'game' more fun for everyone. Cast suspicion onto others, or discreetly transform into the wolf to kill characters getting too close to identifying you! You win if you can get your character to escape without being caught under reasonable circumstances, or if you kill everyone else in the diner.
•If you're playing as the highway patrolman, the object of your character is to survive, of course, and to identify the killer using your very rational mind.

•Everyone else, your goal is to survive at all costs, perhaps to help the patrolman, perhaps not. Will suspicion or paranoia overtake your character and make them do evil things they would never do otherwise? Hell, will they even try to help the Wolf? These characters are the heart and the spice of the story, the wildcards!

Depends, can we do two characters? I've got a couple of good ideas after reading everything. I'll message you what I'm thinking in the morning It's late and I'm tired. Peace.

Absolutely! I think it would be okay if every writer who joins took up to three characters.

I'll draft up three, but I may end up only using two. Should I message you with the character sheets or post them here?
Asher, YES!!! I'm so excited you're into this! I'm kind of more into the idea of most (almost all) of their information being discovered within the confines of the roleplay. Helps add to the mystery, maybe? What do you think? I think names and brief one-sentence summaries should suffice here.

I've got an idea in mind for a drifter type character, probably a conspiracy nut. XD Does he know the culprit? Is he just crazy? Is he the killer himself? The rest of the cast will never know until the bodies start dropping. ;)

I'm sure I could draft up a few more, but that's the idea that's really stirring in my mind.

Tom if you join this too... oh my God...
All my dreams are coming true.

I'm in LOVE with all of them.

@AsherDavian does Marcia mean you want the non-wolf 'Highway Patrolman' character from the synopsis (which you'd totally rule at)? I'm realizing, the catch is, the person who plays that character can't be in the running to get the wolf character. Otherwise, perhaps she's the patrol-proper's wolfable partner? Maybe we'll have to draw straws at some point for those roles with all these added rules...

I'll throw out my one non-committal character and wait until everyone else has stated theirs. I'm cool filling in any blanks :)

Jayne Maynard
College undergrad who joined an activist group and became a radical communist/feminist bank robber. She... is intense.

Well, @KateLocked, I had intended Marcia to be just an off-duty cop in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'll tell you what, though, if no one else wants to claim the patrolman character, I will be the cop the diner deserves and/or needs right now. Also, I love Jayne already...

Jedidiah Guthrie, longtime drifter, knows things "They" don't want you to know.

Jeremy ("J"), the patrolman's son. Doesn't break the law, per se, but definitely stretches it. After all, it's not reckless driving if he's going 120 on a stretch of road so remote that even his dad can't see him. And his dad might hate him smoking, but he can't ban him from having matches.

I dunno if I could handle more than two and make them all interesting. Quick question, though, how will the killer take out the other characters without all players becoming aware of which character is guilty?

@AsherDavian seriously I'm so excited I kind of want to scream. Your characters are home-runs after three sentences. And that's perfect! We can use Marcia either way depending on what everyone else wants to do.

@Square One Oh my God... and I thought I couldn't be smiling bigger right now. PERFECT, both of them. Jed is hilarious and J is a bad boy dreamboat. You can stick to two, that's completely fine!

The killer is going to have to be crafty. I've deliberately left their nature ambiguous because I want whoever writes that character to call the shots. Maybe they are a Skinwalker of Navajo folklore? In that case, they can probably do all kinds of horrible evil magic without getting caught. A werewolf will have a harder time being discreet, but I'm sure they can work something out. Maybe they're just a serial killer? Or something else? Either way some of these wild-card characters may take control of the situation and allow for people to disappear in the chaos. There are bathrooms and the kitchen and a storage room in the basement for private murders, too.

I'm glad you guys are open to killing off some of your characters, because this will obviously get boring if nobody kills anybody off :P

So one of us would allow our character to vanish...but then we would know who the killer is when they announce the body is found...
OR! I just had another idea...maybe we should play this like Werewolf, with one player (Maybe the aforementioned disinterested party?) narrating certain events, and the wolf lets them know via PM who they kill, when and how?

@AsherDavian  I totally didn't think all of the logistics of this through...

Yes! This idea is in fact based on my vague recollections of that game... clearly I didn't remember all the rules... but I think you have a perfectly viable solution, there.

Yes, I think there needs to be a dungeon master of sorts (to put it in D&D terms). Perhaps the victims get more of a chance to convince the DM to let them save themselves as the numbers dwindle. Like a horror film, as the power in numbers diminishes, the power of each character to save themselves should increase, especially if they can deduce some weakness in the killer to exploit. Of course, it would take some very crafty thinking to outsmart a skin walker, but it could be done. After all, clever roleplaying should be rewarded, should it not? ;D
