Slumps forward, face down

Okay, standardized character sheets adapted from the example of @Miss December have been added. Please take a moment to have your character sheets conform as much as possible to that one—though feel free to add anything you feel I may have left out.

I will have more soon—in the meantime, I decided I need help with Houses and courses: if anyone wants to do a write up on their ideas for Houses and courses feel free to send them my way.
Do you want me to update my character sheet?

Am I just blind? I'm not seeing your version of the sheet?

Am I just blind? I'm not seeing your version of the sheet?

It’s at the VERY bottom of the OP, but I’ll repost it here for y’all’s benefit:

Profile
Name:
(What name does your character go by? Please include any titles or aliases, even if they might not be respected or known…)
Age: (How old is your character? Please make sure all characters are biologically, mentally, AND chronologically at least eighteen years old.)
Gender: (What gender is your character?)

Race / Species: (What sort of being is your character—are they a human, are they one of the many humanoid races and species that inhabit this world? Or are they something different? Keep in mind, while we will try and accommodate you as best we can, the University is designed for humanoids…)
Realm of Origin: (Which of the Million Worlds is your character from—where do they call home?)

Role: (Is your character a student? Graduate or undergraduate? Are they a professor, trainer, sage, or some other sort of faculty? Or are they something else? Describe what your character does here.)

Pets / Familiars: (If applicable, describe your character’s pet or familiar. Keep in mind students will be held responsible for any damage done by beings summoned by or belonging to them…)

Physicality

Appearance:
(What does your character look like? How do they typically dress? Do they have any distinguishing features or special accessories? What sort of vibes do they give off? Feel free to include any face claims—preferably not IRL or super-realistic ones—in a spoiler here.)

Non-Magical Skills: (Outside the arcane, what sort of things does your character enjoy, what are they good at? This can be anything athletic, intellectual, cultural, anything not explicitly magical that they’ve managed to gain skill in over the years)

Special Belongings: (Does your character have any special possessions or belongings with them? Please describe.)

Personality

Character:
(What’s your character like? What sort of person are they? What are their morals? What makes them tick? Be as detailed as you’d like here.)
Quirks: (Does your character have any oddities that are hard to explain? If so, tell us!)
Flaws: (What sort of vulnerabilities or problems does your character bring to the table? Give us a few.)

Practice of Magic

Magical Domain(s):
(Which of the Domains of Magic does your character make the most use of?)
Magical Abilities: (What can your character do? Be as detailed or as vague as you’d like here—we can always flesh it out!)
Academic Interests: (Where do your character’s interests lie? What are their favorite courses or topics of study—or their least favorite? What majors and minors would they want to pursue?)

House: (Which House—those student-run fraternities and organizations meant to support each other, form a community around common interests, and/or pursue a particular goal—does your character belong to, if any?)

Current Magnum Opus status:
(If you are chasing this goal—and you do not have to—at what stage is your character when it comes to chasing the Charm and achieving your Magnum Opus? The formal divisions, granted by the Educators, are as follows:

Nigredo / Melanosis / Black Badge: The initial exploratory stage—you have committed to making a Magnum Opus but are still searching for a subject.
Albedo / Leucosis / White Badge: You have found something worth studying, presented it to the Educators, and they agree—you have begun to study your subject.
Citrinitas / Xanthosis / Yellow Badge: Here, good work is being done and discoveries have been made, but more investigation is needed.
Rubedo / Iosis / Red Badge: The final stage, fully demonstrating a mastery of the answers to the inquiry which you had started back in Nigredo. If successful here, you will be granted a Charm.

Keep in mind that it takes many years for this to be done: most don’t make it past Nigredo in undergrad, and many mortals don’t get past Citrinitas at all. Assuming your character is a student, they should have either a Black or White badge: if you’re anywhere beyond a Black badge, please describe what you are researching and what your Magnum Opus is. More lore on this will be posted elsewhere for clarification, but feel free to ask questions in the meanwhile.)

Plot Hooks:
(Is there anything going on with your character that could make for a fun story? If so, give some examples!)

Possible courses? They're probably ALL available ( lol ).

Basic Physical Education for Bookworms.
Advanced Physical Education.
Magic Sports.
Melee Weapons
Ranged Weapons
Calligraphy
Herbology
Creatures of the Wilds.
Creatures in Dungeons.
Spell Classes ( based on the type of magic ).
Magic Item crafting and enchanting.
Group Ritual Magic.

Looking at the adjusted profiles and the notes about 'favourite/least favourite courses'. It might be an idea for us to put together a concrete list of courses where characters would interact, and plot threads can sprout. Spell Classes would be the most obvious. Stuff like:

Evocation Courses- Zahra, Gemaak, Damien and Lydia (and anyone else who knows how to magically blast stuff).

Alteration Courses- Elzebe, Zahra, Damien, Keiko, Jayhe (anyone who can alter reality or themselves)

There's also the likelihood of Classes connected to Magic Domains.

Method- Keiko

Mana- Gemaak, Jayhe, Lydia

Mandate- Zahra, Damien

Where's does Zaphyr fall in all this @dispatch ?

Hi uh, just me sneaking in. I was lured in by the smell of all those magical flavors cooking in here.

Reading through most of it, I think I mostly envision the sandboxy idea of the university. And it looks interesting!
And I was also wondering how courses would work. Like how much of the posts will be spent 'in class', along with a number of other player characters? Or will someone be forced to write the professors who run them (or equivalent)

Is there something to ensure that players are constantly bumping into each other and moving toward a direction, aside from their own individual magnum opus? Will there be things like group projects, competitions, campus events, discovering and containing threats, villains to fight as a group, magical disasters to transform the setting? Or anything else you can think of to give the whole RP a direction and a main plot, and to bring players together.
If so, would it be all up to @dispatch to DM such things?

I'm worried about it being too sandboxy and stagnating into multiple of 1 on 1 RPs.

Hmm… That might not be a bad idea. When I make the character roster I just might do that, though I also don’t want people to think that they can ONLY interact in classes and whatnot.

Where's does Zaphyr fall in all this @dispatch ?

Zaphyr is actually a Mana mage! He’s a special kind of Reptali (think ES Vargonian, DND Dragonborn) whose main thing is that he can transform into a full-on fire-breathing dragon. He would also be studying Method magic as well though.

Heyo!!! I'm SUPES INTERESTED in this :D (I'm new to this forum so I don't know if I do anything more from here... :maybe:😋)

Welcome onion! 🧅 It’s more or less what @Rothwell said—just read up on the main post (and the previous pages if you can, no worries if not however), then if this sounds like your jam you can use the character sheet to make a player character for yourself!

Alright! I have posted a character roster (link) so everyone can have easy access to people’s character sheets.

@Celphalion and @Arvhin Crest, in order for your characters to be approved and put on the roster, they need to be edited into the standard sheet—let me know if you want any help in doing so!

Hey Ark! I am so sorry for not replying for so long 😭 and I’m glad you like what you see. Let me address what you’ve said though because it is super important:

And I was also wondering how courses would work. Like how much of the posts will be spent 'in class', along with a number of other player characters?

That’s up to the players, mostly! CU isn’t exactly a traditional university where everyone is herded around to a more or less tight schedule of different classes—there will be lectures to attend, but they can also go to different labs and other places to spend their time as well.

From an OOC perspective, I think I’m going to gather a few—no more than 4 or 5–class ideas that have at least 2 or 3 people interested, and then post those lectures/classes and let interactions/dialogue happen in those. How exactly I am going to do this, I don’t yet know… A poll of several repeatedly mentioned candidates seems like the most rational way to do it but I need to see if that will be practical. Stay tuned! 😁

Or will someone be forced to write the professors who run them (or equivalent)

There will be SOME professors that are written down, and the someone who will be forced to do it is increasingly looking like it’s me. 🫠 it’s FINE everything is FINE—

I am probably going to just abolish the “two character life limit” as a hard rule, in order to allow people to write professors as player characters.

In short: yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes! 😄

To take each of those ideas in turn:

- Group projects: while of course individual development is important—particularly for Magnum Opus work—in general Celestial University encourages cooperation and collaboration between students to achieve their goals. There will be plenty of official group projects, and assignments that can be helped by doing it in a group.

- Competitions: Absolutely there will be plenty of competitions to choose from. Some ideas I’ve already worked on include Mage Duels (both official matches and 1v1 street battles), Arena Fights (against golems, summoned creatures, etc.), Enchanting Competitions, Familiar/Summoned Pet Shows, Potion Brew-Offs, and races and other challenges with broomsticks and mounts and portals. Feel free to ask if you have any more ideas or questions on these!

-Campus events: Plenty of these too. A few include commencement ceremonies for Magnum Opus students, and even student protests (depending on IC events),

-Discovering and containing threats: Well, yeah. Students should be prepared to deal with unexpected dangerous incidents, since, y’know. Things happen. 😈 (Not saying anything because spoilers but rest assured there will be Things that Happen).

-Villains to fight as a group: 😈😈😈 (Yes but again, no details—spoilers).

-Magical disasters: the Million Worlds can be quite unpredictable—while CU has a powerful enough magical presence that it is usually safe, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s ALWAYS perfectly safe, and while going off-campus anything can happen.

If so, would it be all up to @dispatch to DM such things?

This is a good question…

I intend to fully DM major story events, plus a few side ideas near and dear to my heart (specifically the Necromancer’s Ball and a “take down the giant”, boss-battle university-sanctioned team battle which I will introduce).

However, if anyone wants to have their own big event—even if they want to cause a big disaster or introduce some side villains—they’re more than welcome to, and I’ll probably let them GM it so long as they DM me to discuss first and are okay with me jumping in to fix anything game-breaking or too far outside the bounds (obviously this will matter less for small things like lectures and duels and much more for things like university-wide events or disasters).

I'm worried about it being too sandboxy and stagnating into multiple of 1 on 1 RPs.

Well, I hope that wall of text above was able to allay your concerns! 😂 I will be sure not to let that happen here.

I'd be happy to write up a professor or two if it lightens the workload @dispatch. No reason for you to shoulder the entire faculty alone.

Alright, no sense in putting this off any further, gotta get over my aversion to putting my baby (this setting) in others’ hands—you’re welcome to make a professor character.

Anyone else can too—just one for the moment, though, please. It won’t count towards your character life limit.

Vamp professor.png

Basic Profile

-Name: Alexander Andrade Broadbrook
-Age: 245
-Species: Human Vampire
-Gender: Male
-Type of Magic: Mana
-Role: Professor at the Celestial University
-Origin Realm: Rallahiem, the country of Askia (Earth-like world containing Vampires and Werewolves, just entering the age of steam)
-Pets/Familiars: Montague, his beloved hellhound

Appearance

Alexander looks to be a man in his early thirties. Tall, slender, but imposing. Hundreds of years as a member of the undead have paled the professor's once tanned complexion. He has a severe brow and high cheek bones that accentuate the few lines his face acquired during his short life as a human. His black hair is usually tied back in a short ponytail. His beard is short, containing a few strands of silvery hair. In class, he is usually clad in black and purple robes adorned with golden runes to advertise his accomplishments in his chosen field.

Magical Domain
 -Necromancy, conjuration and evocation

Spells
- Too many to list, the man is a walking encyclopaedia of all things necromantic. He is adept at raising the dead and calling creatures such as elementals and demons from other planes. His evocation ability is less powerful, but Alexander has mastered a variety of offensive spells of fire, ice and lightning.

Racial Abilities
-One With Shadows (invisibility in low light)
-Dominate Lesser Mind (powerful charm spell)
-Mist Form
-Swarm of Bats

Magic Item
-His staff, along with a few items of jewellery which contain various bound spells

Non-Magical Skills
-Well versed in several languages
-Horse Riding
-Art Connoisseur

Academic Area
- Teaches classes on Necromancy and Conjuration in the Crypt of the First Scholars. Occasionally substitutes for Evocation classes.

Personality
He has the demeanour of an old grumpy man, because that's what he really is. Alexander typically wears the expression of someone who has seen it all and disapproved of most of it. He takes great pride in the teaching of his art, and is quick to discipline a student for slacking off. The only warmth he usually shows is for his infernal pet.

Quirks
-Considers being late to be the among the highest forms of rudeness.
-Has a great appreciation for artistic talent
-A bookworm in his free time.

Flaws
-Often looks down on people without immortality.
-His pride often borders on arrogance.
-Urgency rarely comes to someone who can live forever.

Personal History

Born into a family of means in Askia's capital city of Old Rock. Alexander grew up in a cutthroat world of aristocrats vying for political power. His rebirth into Vampirism was no accident, but rather a ploy from a rival family to end the Broadbrook line through undead sterilisation, and to turn the public against them. The revelation of Alexander's new identity forced him into exile, when upon he eventually found fellow creatures of the night who took him in and nurtured his budding Abilities.
He received an invitation to the Celestial University nearly a century ago, and immediately fell in love with the freedom the location afforded him. Upon finishing his Magnum Opus and graduating, he remained as an assistant, before eventually becoming a Professor in his own right.

I just added the link to the character directory in the OP.

Also, if I inadvertently moved your character sheet while it was a WIP or if you want to make any edits, let me know and I’ll accommodate you.

Also also, I am aware that the way I’ve gone about moving character sheets has mostly screwed up all the images—I will do what I can to fix that shortly.
