Oh, when I said "Private" I meant more "Not owned by a COMPANY, but a person or local government". Sorry for the confusion.

Also, two other things. Would the child of a Pre-War "Designer Baby", and a "Natural" human be considered a Mutant themselves, especially if they inherited one or two genetic mutations from the DB? And just how bad is the current radiation? Would being outside, unprotected in certain parts be potentially fatal?
No worries! A federal bunker is fine even if you wanted to do that—just wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting into if that was the case. Yes, certainly there would be local government/community bunkers as well, of varying quality.

It depends very much on what those mutations are. If they're relatively minor or invisible—better cardiovascular health or eyesight, something like that—nobody but genetic scientists would even notice, and only hardcore partisans of one side or the other would care that much: most folks would consider you human enough. If the mutations are more noticeable, then the reactions you get would be stronger and more common. Unless you're dealing with people who can analyze DNA samples and are willing to do so, looks and apparent "normality" count for most of it.

Current radiation is fairly bad still, but it depends very much on where you are. Most places are a little bit better than current Chernobyl—there are pockets of intense ARS danger and general higher cancer/complication risk everywhere, but you can reasonably survive. Closer to old important military bases or city centers, however, you get more and more radiation: certain places in Washington DC and Montana can kill an unshielded person in single-digit minutes. Broadly speaking, radiation also gets worse as you move west to east.

NAME: Cassius "Silver" Sterling, Cas, Mayor of New Atchison.

SPECIES: Mutant

AGE: 19

WEIGHT & HEIGHT: 142.0 lb. 69.5"

GENDER: Male

APPEARANCE: A tall and thin man, Cas is physically unassuming, and quite weak. He has a more triangular facial structure, with a sharp chin and nose. He has dark blonde hair and pale skin. He has big and bright yellow eyes that are quite bird-like.

ABILITIES & SKILLS:
While not physically strong, he is a master manipulator and liar. He can talk his way into, and out of, mostly anything. A great political and tactical mind, he has a strong hold on all twelve of his group, and uses them to fight his battles as much as he can. He is the son of a "Designer Baby", and inherited not only extremely good health, but also extremely good eyesight, and a minor form of biological nightvision. However, he also has eyes the color of a vibrant yellow. He also carries a revolver as a sidearm, just in case he has to fight, but would rather avoid direct confrontation if he could be in danger.

ALLEGIANCES: New Atchison, The Atchison Bunker (formerly). The Atchison Bunker was a complex built underneath the town of Atchison Kansas. Made to initially hold about 200 people, the population grew, and a recon team was sent out to scout and make a suitable settlement wherever they could, then come back for the rest in the bunker. The recon team is known as "The New Atchison Colony", and want to establish a settlement called New Atchison, and then send off for the remaining bunker dwellers.

BIOGRAPHY: Cassius was born and raised inside of The Atchison Bunker, yet he always yearned for the outside world. Once the opportunity came around to leave the place and explore, he jumped right at it. Quickly on, he was "elected" (or, more, he appointed himself) as leader, and would-be mayor of New Atchison. Now in the ruins of a town near husk of what was Oklahoma City, The New Atchison Colony take invintory, and prepare to start their trek into Texas. Armed with nothing but pre-war tech, radiation suits, some tents, and a will as strong as Pennsylvania steel.
No worries!
Alright! Here he is! Could you tell me about any lore-inaccuracies that I might have to fix?

Sorry about my absence folks. Depending on how the next couple of weeks go, I should be more or less back.

In the meantime, enjoy (one of) the soundtracks for WW3. Don't worry that the song is 20 minutes long—only the first six matter. Just like in nuclear war! 😁

Fun fact: the character Sheriff Eli McCoy is named for Elijah McCoy, a Canadian-born African American inventor whose steam engine components were so popular and well-crafted, that he is allegedly the source of the idiom "the real McCoy," since engineers didn't want any imitations!

@Nyx Hey Nyx—you're more than welcome to keep writing with Tyler if you wanna stay in the story! If you want I can make a post moving forward into chapter 2 with her returning to the ARU base to speak with the Major.

Sounds good, Let me finish the post I am on currently and then we can have a quick brainstorm. And make sure we all caught up to speed.
Luv ya Dorbs. Cu soon

Liiitle question about Sheriff McCoy and the L.S.A. Would they be adverse/hostile to mutants/whatever the hell Sterling is? Just a thought because of how simple, minute, inconsequential, yet prominent of a change he has. Would anyone find him dishonest if he tried to hide it in their eyes? I was thinking that he would wear sunglasses pretty much all the time if he's out of his rad-suit due to them being sensitive to sunlight more than an average person. As it stands, the visors of the hazmat suits that the group wears are tinted, negating Cas's need for glasses, but also hiding the finer details of their faces, namely color.

Also, little note to those interested! The rest of the NA Colony are up for free-play, meaning that anyone can control them (write as them? What's the term?). Only stipulation is that you can't control the WHOLE group at once, or something like that.

Why don't you find out? :^)

Actual answer: for the LSA, it depends on the individual. Some people wouldn't care, some would. They're something of a libertarian faction—meaning that prejudice and adoption run together in mostly equal measures. Generally, the less human you look, the more suspicious you will be seen as, but there are exceptions in both directions everywhere. Sheriff McCoy himself is not prejudiced, though he holds what he describes as "a healthy suspicion" of particularly inhuman mutants.

Oh, I'm not quite done just yet. I need to add a line or two if you don't mind.

Not in the slightest! Always feel free to edit your posts—just let me know if you do and I miss it. ^^

Hey there folks, quick question: how would we all feel about pushing the date of the apocalypse out a ways into the 2060s or 2080s? It's not a very important thing, I just feel like it would give everyone a bit more wiggle room and freedom in storytelling about the pre-war world and with technology.

Go ahead and give a thumbs up if you feel positive/neutral about it—if you're against it, let me know.

You know,
@OrganicIntelligence

Alright. If Cassius and Sarah meet, and Cas ended up knowing of her situation, he's going to refer to her as either Major Tom, or Ziggy (as in Ziggy Stardust) at least once. I just can't pass that opportunity up, lol.
You know, upon thinking about it, calling them Ziggy would really fit in a way, what with all the apocalyptic themes of both the album, and the RP. On top of that, David Bowie said that the character was "Born out of a desire to move away from the denim and hippies of the 1960s", which is sorta like a parallel/inverse (sorta) of something old (Sarah), coming to something new (the world). And, from what I feel about her mission in the first place, and the name of the shuttle being The Argo, I think there was a sense of hope meant to be gleaned from it. Ziggy Stardust was sent to earth to spread hope to a dead and doomed planet and populace, so I see a connection there too.

I dunno. Just thinking about things, my mind went to this for a bit. Sorry about the ramblings.

You know, I had a little thought just now.

How could Atchison, a relatively small city in Kansas, have raised enough money and gotten enough labor to build a bunker large enough, and technologically advanced enough to support extended life down there? Did the old mayor use some sort of organized crime syndicate? Blackmail? What if those affected by, or those that helped with, the bunker were still around to some capacity? What would this mean for Cas, having appointed himself as the new mayor?

I'm not trying to be coy, or drop hints. I don't know how the bunker was funded (neither does Cas!), just a fun idea!
