The character sheet and broad worldbuilding is probably going to be more or less the same, so if you want you can get started! I would still wait to post it until Next Semester is open though—which shouldn't be long.
This looks like fun! Is there a style preference for character photos? I have the perfect character for this and the photo I have for her is anime style, would that be alright?
Also, can a character have multiple affinities and forms, such as both astronomy and weather relating magic for affinities, and both potion brewing and spell casting for forms?

Hey there, glad you're interested! As for faceclaims, my only rule for roleplays generally is that they are NOT IRL faceclaims—anime style would be great!

Hmm… I'm thinking yes, but it might need to be more of a "Jack of All Trades, Master of None" deal. In any case, go ahead and work with whatever you had in mind and we can workshop it later if need be.

Name: Mys Bellyoung Age: 18 Gender: Female Appearance: Mys is quite short, standing at 4'10
Personality: On the outside, Mys appears to be a rather short-tempered, stubborn individual. She is quite moody, almost always sporting a sour face. In her world, most everybody around her is incompetent, idiotic and an utter waste of space. On the inside, Mys' cynical outlook towards others is a result of her own projection. She is incredibly critical of herself, rarely pleased with anything she accomplishes. While she hides it well, she is easy to fluster, and often finds herself embarrassed or uncomfortable. Those she is fond of are often subject to even higher standards than normal, but she is more forgiving with them than others. She will loosen up more around those close to her, becoming slightly cheerier and open. Mys is a newly self-recognized lesbian, and is still coming to understand what that means for her.
Homeworld: Hailing from the land of Gerové, Mys is one of a long line of witches. Gerové is a kingdom solely of witches founded during the Dark Ages in reaction to anti-witch sentiment. Hidden from view by a powerful invisibility spell, Gerové resides within Lithuania on the planet Earth. While meant to be a utopia for all witches, dwindling resources made the kingdom more exclusive and the Trials were put in to place to test young witches and determine if they are worthy to remain in Gerové. After failing her trials, Mys sought out the university, with the goal of strengthening her powers.
Backstory: Mys is the eldest daughter of a prestigious family of accomplished witches. From birth, Mys was prepared for the Trials, devoting almost every waking moment to training. While Mys became very knowledgeable about many forms of magic, she struggled to apply her knowledge to her own spells, failing over and over again. Her family became increasingly worried, but they just continued to train her, hoping things would resolve themselves before the Trials. Eventually, the day came, and while Mys threw everything into the Trials, she ultimately failed. As a result, she was banished from the kingdom. With nowhere to turn, Mys packed her belongings into a charmed suitcase, and enrolled herself in Celestial University.
Style/Form: Mys' magic takes the form of potions and verbal spells. She finds certain spells are more effective depending on the placement of the stars and planets. Affinity/Focus: Mys' magic revolves around the weather and the cosmos. Other Skills & Interests: Mys is an avid gardener, putting great care into the poisonous plants and fungi she calls her "children." She also is a skilled hat maker, making herself a new hat every week. Due to her intensive schooling as a child, Mys has great penmanship and prides herself on her letter-writing abilities.
Art Credits: Ashira = Llamana (Pintrerest)
Attire = Acolumi (Deviant Art)
Hane = Catnip Conclave (RedBubble)
At a glance, Ashira appears like a 5'5" statue and moves like a graceful ballerina. Usually has her hair half up in a roped tospy-tail, adorned with a butterfly pin. During academy hours she can be seen wearing her school attire, cherry red with golden trims and accents.
- An introvert and observer by nature. To make friends, she confronts her fear and anxiety of rejection. Someone once told her it's never good to be alone or secluded for too long, and so takes that to heart.
- Moved by music she can hear songs no one else can, which make her appear "a bit off" or "spacey".
- She loves to swim as she feels free in the open water and weightless. It's the closest she'll ever get to flying, besides her dreams.
- Confrontation makes her uneasy, but she won't compromise if there's clearly a wrong done or being done.
Flaws:
- As quiet as she can be, she bottles her stress and anger. Though she is unaware, these things manifest through her magic in a troublesome way, rendering her useless if not faced and dealt with.
- There is a battle going on within her; flesh against spirit. As much as she takes her faith seriously, she is far from perfection.
Romantic Scenes: Straight orientation.
Homeworld: Levuah, a bright world full of magical life where the bearer's heart reflects their choices and decisions, with or without magic. However, this bright world harbours its own secrets and dark desires. Although this world inhabits different tribes of people they all have the same appearance and together are called Kinsoul, despite being individually, uniquely created.
Due to Ashira's high security, she had to be spirited away from her world. It was a bold move. A man unknown to her called to her in his unique way that only she could hear. In front of a very large crowd during a festival, she was lured away without anyone noticing and disappeared with the mysterious man.
"Come with me, if you seek deeper wisdom…"
Backstory: Ashira grew up in Pinacle Valley Castle. Though she is not a Princess by nature, she was raised to be like one, due to a prophecy. Not knowing where she truly comes from, she is often visited by dreams of her parents as shadows. In truth, Ashira was stolen away very young and brought to the castle. Prophecy is written she is the Songstress they were waiting for.
Present Story
Is Ashira's arrival to this world the freedom she's always dreamed of? Or is this another kind of cage?
What life can she expect from this Academy she has arrived to?
The butterfly pin in her hair acts as a conductor for making magic happen. It is made of cerylin crystal, it is both light weighted and highly durable. A special kind of crystal from her homeworld which absorbs and restores magic; instead of making her tired, she just won't be able to use magic for a while and become magically exhausted.
Verbal utterance either by spoken word or through song.
Limitation: When casting this kind of magic, it takes away a memory. Depending on the range and volume, it can be an important memory to a small detail. All in all, a ripple effect can still have great impact and consequences.
- Separate from elemental magic is Spirit. An inner magic where a conductor isn't necessary. For Ashira it is through prayer and song. If there is trouble and her friends are threatened internally or externally, she either prays or sings, whichever is appropriate for the situation.
The songs she sings create translucent butterflies, which are transferred to another and often carrying some restoration to the one intended. These butterflies have different colours depending on their message.
- Spirit can either be restorative or damaging, depending on the bearer's heart.
Affinity/Focus
The faith she carries with her keeps her moving forward and helps her along her path and helps her to remember what she has forgotten in due season.
Water. Being a restorative element, she is able to heal simple to moderate wounds or injuries. However, due to her limitation she prefers to learn healing from the natural world through potions and other concoctions.
Wind. Close to telekinesis, she is able to move objects by calling the wind when in a tight spot.
Other Skills and Interested
Archery. She has a keen eye and hand coordination for target shooting as a pass time. If she could call upon a Spirit Bow and Arrow, she would in a heartbeat.
Interested in learning the Way of the Land for simple healing properties.
She carries a book with her everywhere she goes called Oracle and can be seen reading from it, time to time.
In the park or courtyard she writes in a journal during free time.
Hane (Feather)
This little one is able to heal herself by purring. A playful kit at heart, but secretive about it. If others are watching her play, she stops and gives a look of divisiveness. "I wasn't playing!" One can imagine her saying.
Hane loves to stretch out her wings and is often bearing a letter, giving her an excuse to fly to others and visit with a small gift, fetching an item or message.
Specialty: If Hane is allowed, she is able to transform into a large lioness with wings. This allows for transportation for short distances (to cross a lake), if for whatever reason, no ships/ferries are available. (If this is strictly forbidden, no worries!)
Personality: Klary is a very troubled young woman. Who very much hates her current body but is grateful for it as it has shown her, she was a truly terrible person. She knows now she is capable of much worse and is constantly on guard for her darker impulses. In public, she tries to act like a proper lady should, or rather what she thinks a proper lady should, but she has no clue what that is. In private she is extremely uncomfortable with everything about herself. Klary has never had friends. She had siblings who were her rivals for her parents' attention. She had trainers and teachers who taught her how to be a proper gentleman. Kat is the closest thing she has to a friend. She has never had an enemy, before being transformed into Klary she did fight bandits going from one town to another, but bandits were just opportunists looking to score a few gold, not really enemies. Klary before being transformed into Klary was only attracted to women. Since becoming Klary, she has not expressed interest in anyone as she has mostly kept to herself.
Homeworld: Klary is from Shadow World, a land where people actually capable of using magic is beyond exceedingly rare. Almost everyone has a little magic power, for most, it amounts to a single drop of water in a ten-gallon bucket. Arik and Garrik were the super rare exceptions, they were a twenty-gallon bucket that was overflowing with water. Klary has the potential to eventually become like Arik and Garrik, but the curse is impeding her progress. Shadow World does not have the letter C in its alphabet.
After what happened in Skaina came to the attention of Celestial University they kept a closer eye on the Shadow World. Klary's attack on the tavern alerted the university. They sent someone to find and recruit that person to the university if recruitment was not an option, to stop that person permanently. Klary jumped at the chance to leave.
Backstory: Arik Stormkaller was a Warlok he used his powers for evil, & he hurt and abused women simply because he could. Arik succeeded in his ultimate goal, he was now the sole ruler of Skaina, and everyone feared him. Arik ruled for seven years with an iron fist. Eventually, Garrik Sunfire another Warlok challenged Arik to a duel to the death. Arik lost; he was prepared to die when Garrik kursed him. Arik died in a way; Arik was transformed into a woman named Arika.
Arika was decades younger than Arik was. Arika was powerless. Arika fled Skaina. Arika eventually married a nobleman in Skoaqua a neighboring country. Arika studied her kurse for years, she learned that the kurse could never be completely broken but it could become weaker. So, she set herself on the path to weakening the kurse. She bore her husband seven children. Those children had seven children, and so on for seven generations. After Arika died she set out to subtly guide her descendants into doing things that would bring them power, influence, and money. She convinced each one that they must have seven children. During the sixth generation, she noticed that several of her descendants had shown magical aptitude, it was weak and useless. She began manipulating several members of the sixth generation into interbreeding, they never knew they were related, and their familial status was so distant most would not even consider it a problem.
Karl was a seventh-generation descendant of Arika, he was the seventh child of two seventh children parents. Karl was of noble birth. He grew up rich and educated. He was taught the ways of the sword. He was raised to believe that women were frail, weak things that he had to protect. His future marriage was arranged at the time of his birth to the daughter of some other noble family, a very distant cousin of his not that anyone knew that.
Karl grew up thinking less of women, he used women in whatever way he could for his own pleasure. On the eve of his wedding, the day after his eighteenth birthday, he was in bed with a woman he just met. She was poor, scared, timid, and weak, and was easily manipulated into doing what he wanted. While taking advantage of her, his eyes began to glow because his powers were finally manifesting. Suddenly Karl started writhing in pain. His bedmate fled in terror. When Karl regained control of his body, he noticed he was no longer male but female—a female he would have loved to conquer in bed.
All her siblings were married and living elsewhere but her sisters kept clothes there for when they came to visit or because they ran out of closet space but refused to part with clothes they would no longer wear. Karl grabbed clothes from one of her elder sister's rooms and fled her home in the middle of the night. She tried to take her sword, but her new arms were not strong enough to wield it. She grabbed two much smaller daggers known as kindjals to defend herself with.
Karl, running on pure adrenaline, found herself in a neighboring town, she was remarkably familiar with. This town was not known for being a nice place. The best place for a woman to work was the tavern, officially it was a simple tavern unofficially for the right amount of coin you could get whatever your heart desired if was at all humanly possible.
Karl was tired and hungry. She had frequented this tavern many times, partaking in the services it offered quite often. Karl had no choice but to take a job at the tavern, she knew she was going to hate working there and she knew she would be quite popular being the new girl. She was dreading it but had no choice. At least that is what she thought, Arik was pushing her to this place subtly from the beyond. Arik was pushing her into this life to force her to defend herself with magic to make her angry.
Before she walked into the tavern Garrik who had himself reincarnated in the form of a blak kat stopped her. The kat led her to a very recently abandoned house. Arik rested there for several days eating the food left behind. Hiding whenever someone came near the house. Eventually, she moved on and the blak kat came with her. She began to call herself Klary and the blak kat became known as Kat. She was not very clever when it came to naming things. As they were walking Kat rushed into an ancient-looking building. Inside were all kinds of books on magic and runes. There were hundreds upon hundreds of books. Most were ruined. The only ones still readable were for beginners. With the book on runes was a stele. Klary studied the runes book first. She branded herself with runes using the stele. On her chest, she branded the rune she felt drawn to the most, the one that made her feel less like a freak. She then branded other runes to herself. After reading some of the magic books, she began training. At night she meditated to maintain a sense of self to shut out all outside influences. Over time she became horrified at who she used to be and what she had done to women. Klary hated herself. On her nineteenth birthday, she went back to the town that was home to the tavern she had at one time considered working at, whoring herself at. It was daytime the tavern would be empty except for maybe one of the women cleaning it or cooking food for that night. Klary went inside, she forced everyone inside out. She then burned it to the ground.
As Klary watched the tavern burn from the road the tavern owner and his two sons attacked her. She set them ablaze in self-defense. She was going to track down the owner and make sure he knew if he ever rebuilt the tavern that he would come to regret it in a way only the truly damned could.
As she watched the tavern owner burn a young girl stabbed her in the butt, that was as high as the girl could reach. She turned to unleash a fireball on the interloper who dared to stab her. She saw a young girl crying. A girl Klary was trying to save from that tavern or from being married to one of the evil men who patronized the tavern. A young girl who probably just saw her father die. Klary knelt and hugged the young girl. She pulled the knife out of her butt and offered the girl the knife. Klary was prepared to let the girl kill her. The girl then turned back into Kat. Klary was very confused. She cast some magic to make it rain, putting out all the fires.
Klary fled the town ashamed yet again at what she had become. She had let her anger win. She was afraid she was turning into the infamous Bloody Arik of Skaina. She went to a cliff to jump off when Kat once again stopped her by transforming into a young boy. He convinced her there was a place she could go to get help. She just had to be patient and not let her emotions overwhelm her. Klary went back to the building where she found the books on magic and runes.
Style/Form: Klary uses two forms of magic. The most obvious is runic magic that is branded to the skin or another surface with a Stele. The less obvious she just kind of does it, she thinks about it, and it happens.
Affinity/Focus: Currently Klary is focused on runes and elemental magic.
Other Skills & Interests: Klary is a trained swordsman, she cannot wield a full-size sword with her new weaker frame.
Pet: Klary has a blak kat she named Kat. Kat is the reincarnation of Garrik Sunfire, a graduate of the Celestial University. He was the one to stop Arik all those years ago. Garrik died shortly after doing everything he could to undo the damage Arik caused. Garrik has watched over the Shadow World ever since after discovering Arik's plan. When Garrik discovered Klary, he had himself reincarnated as a cat to help guide the poor girl. He has limited shape-shifting capabilities that he only uses when it is absolutely necessary to stop Klary from hurting herself or others.

Approved! Her story is interesting—I think it's fun when people have their characters arrive at the University not as a result of success, but as a result of failure real or perceived.
I also really like the way you set her magic up: not a lot of people use astrological considerations in the story. Out of curiosity, what exactly are the sorts of spells that Mys can do?

Approved! Ashira is very mysterious—I look forward to figuring out the mystery man and what's going on with the music.
I do have a comment about the magic system, however. Specifically, I worry that the "losing a memory to cast" limitation might discourage you from doing magic—which would be a problem since we're going to be doing a lot of that lol. Is it just associated with that very specific type of spirit magic? If that happens EVERY time you use ANY magic, you might want to change it to "a chance to lose a random memory".

Other Skills & Interests: Klary is a trained swordsman, not that she can actually wield a full-size sword with her new weaker frame.

We already talked about the magic and backstory and stuff, but just to make it official: Approved! I look forward to seeing more of Klary's twisted journey.
In the meantime, you all let me know if you have any additional comments or questions. Depending on how the next couple days go, I may have a new OOC thread up. At the latest, I will have a full OP going by Friday.
No worries! I just get into a habit of tacking on limitations to magic. If the magic at the Academy is more free, I can certainly change it up. Maybe keep the lesser limitation of her magic: if used up, she can't cast anymore until her butterfly pin alerts her she can use magic again?
Spirit magic is definitely more free for her to use than the elements. The only limit here is maintaining her relationship with her faith.
As for the mystery man, he may pop up again around the Academy. But I'll collaborate with you about it before I do.

It's not that I'm against the idea of memory loss being a limit, that seems really cool! Just it happening every time magic is used might be a serious impediment. Although that can also be played for drama… hm. Egh, forget it (poor choice of words)—keep it as is! If the memory loss starts to cause plot problems, we can solve it using magic anyways.
Memories
Ok, I'll keep the memory loss. I believe I did mention how much memory loss there is due to the range/volume of magic used. Otherwise I can edit the memory loss as something gradual rather than every single time elemental magic is used.
Faith
I kept it vague bc I wasn't sure how it would fit into the story. I was thinking her faith is from the Eternal Light deity, or El for short which means God.
No worries if it doesn't fit the story though.
