Group RP (Superhero RP) Chaos Comes Calling ~ OOC & Character Thread

So what about the breakdown of the meta population? Classification of metas based on their powers and potentials? Going off of DC's figures, we're talking about 4.2 million people who have at least Ratcatcher level powers (he can telepathically control rats and train them to do things for him). That's a LOT of people. So is the breakdown similar to that of meh-level abilities to wow-level abilities? Are the most mundane of supers/metas able to touch something hot without really getting that burned, seem to have better than average immune systems or even are just star athletes without anyone noticing?

Yeah ... math from a comic book ... Like, do you think they included Kandor and the rest of Braniac's bottle cities while they were technically on Earth? Or if the league of shadows and the non-resurrected Owls count as metahumans, or just ... really boss humans. Or like, where do the martians of various colours, and the daxamites, and the other Earths, and the interstellar police organizations come into play ... and what about every god, ever, AND some NEW gods? And THAT's only true until the next Retcon, lol.
Apparently Marvel has 30-40 Million mutants, and then there's the various alien races, non-mutant superheroes, tech geniuses, ninjas, wizards, kung-fu masters, etc. I mean ... in Ultimate anyway, who knows for the other reboots.
Wildstorm had like ... 1/3 of the global population turned into "Post Human," whatever that means (It means a lot of things :P), and neither Image nor Top Cow really bother explaining much of anything, because like ... why? Here's a dragon who's also a police officer, seem unlikely? deal with it! Here's a sexy police officer who basically dies next to feminism-the-weapon, you got a problem? Suck it. Here's a mercenary-turned-hell's-lieutenant who just loooooves this one back-alley, questions? Too bad :P

I suppose it would help me to know why you're asking ^_^

Also, just as a note, to anyone building character ... >ahem<
Remember that your character is weak, or untrained to begin with, hence not acting as a superhero before Vanguard became a thing. We don't want any One-Punch men in here, tempting as it may be.

Alright ... I'm going to go eat ... because, after avoiding food in the interest of leaving work a half-hour early today, I'm probably a lot bitchier than I realize at the moment ^_^

I think it only included people with superpowers who are basically residents of earth, so visitors don't count but aliens like Superman count. Batman doesn't.

Asking for background information. Loren is going to have been part of a governmental program testing a healing serum and it turned into something else when they discovered her own powers, but curious as to how many they might have had in the program. Also to get an idea of the size of the population. If there were superheroes that policed supervillains, how many were there? How common was it to find a gang with a super-powered individual helping them commit robbery? Just world information really, so as to build a mental map of the populace.

@Is it Amy?
Hmm ... well, I suppose some of that's on you.
The government program is for the development of a healing serum, so they would have done genetic testing on their subjects, were they looking for Metahumans or not? If for some reason they weren't testing their subjects, then I suppose the context would be more important. Is there a character in her backstory that has to be metahuman to inspire sympathy or regret, is there some violent trauma she experienced at the hands of a metahuman? How does Loren know, why does she know? Like, statistically there COULD be, unless there's a reason for there not to be.

I think I get what you want to know though. So ... imagine your character is walking down the street. It's a bustling city, there are people in your space everywhere. Let's say there are a hundred people on this side of the street, in one city block, all walking one way or the other, and you are too. (it's a slow day :p) There is a couple behind you trying to talk quietly. They met on that new metahuman dating app, and think it's cool to find someone they can talk to about this kind of thing. He can breathe underwater, salt OR fresh, she can fly, but if she focuses she can make the wind pick up. You pass a few more people strolling casually. A few dozen feet ahead, there's a homeless man trying to take cover from sight in the few accessible feet of a gated alley. He looks like he's flicking a lighter under a pipe of some kind, but you stare a little longer to see the sparks, and eventual flame, are coming right from his fingers. He can do that from all of his fingers. You keep walking, pass a starbucks. Out front a woman is sitting, flicking over her phone. She's nicely dressed, looks well off. If she wanted to, she could shut down every electronic device for a hundred yards. The man sitting next to her does crossfit.

Finally you reach your destination, a little convenience store on the corner of the block. You go inside, the cashier recognizes you, offers a nod, he can grow bone armour over his whole body after drinking tainted milk. Four or five people filter in behind you, they're all normal. You're paying for your juice and on your way out, you pass a mother pulling a crying 5 year old into the store. The mother is normal, but once he hits his teen years the boy will develop immense, top-level psychic power. You're headed back down the block when you see a small group of teenagers hassling the homeless guy. One of those teenagers is a year off being able to lift a building and survive nearly any damage. The homeless man, angered and belligerent, holds his hand out, foot long jets of relatively meek-looking flames spouting out toward the teenagers. There is a communal gasp as people realize what they've seen, and even the man seems shocked at his own lapse in judgment. Most people start scurrying away hurriedly, two of that large group are metahumans. One has powers so weak or specific as to be useless, the other can unleash a nuclear blast from their body at will, but has never gotten angry or scared enough to trigger. People are acting like he was waiving a gun around, even though he isn't hurting anyone now, and is in fact gathering his things to leave. Seconds later a police car pulls up, and two officers jump out, one of them is an alien, quite visibly (I don't know what kind, I'm tired ... green, a green alien.) They tell the man to get on the ground, he begins a rambling explanation as he complies. Down the street, watching with tense stares, a group of your twenty-something men are lingering outside of the convenience store. Two of them are normal, one can create explosions of kinetic force by clapping his hands, the last can lift and control up to a tonne of metal out to 30 feet with his mind. They plan on robbing the convenience store. With your character included, that's 13 out of about 105, give or take, including one alien, which is a statistical unlikelihood.

I hope that helped, and wasn't just like ... weird and answering nothing ^_^

Name: Valarie Jacobson
Alias or Nickname: Valkyrie
Age: 24
Physical Description: Valarie has long wavy red hair, and piercing blue eyes. She has constellations of freckles all over her face leading down to her shoulders, to the point where she may as well be tan instead of a light creamish color. Pale pink lips that constantly turn up in a challenging smirk, and a pointed chin that is angled up in defiance more than not complete her list of notable features. Some minor scarring graces her body -but nothing you would see if you saw her on the street. One can hardly be in her line of work without getting a few bumps and bruises after all. Most are just thin lines on her legs or back. There is one puckered scar just under her collarbone on the right side of her body, but it is hidden under her dress.

Secret Identity ~ On the streets Valarie wears a long linen (usually green) dress that covers her from wrists to ankles. It has a wide skirt that she has put large -like ridiculously large- pockets into and similar sleeves with buttons to ensure she can still reach for things without totally disrupting tables, etc. The dress is tighter until a little above her waist where the material begins to billow. This combined with a grey neck scarf allows her to hide her supervillain costume whenever she wants to be prepared for trouble.

Alter-Ego ~ Valkyrie

However Valkyrie has plain black boots in that style, and none of the gold accents after the first one. The bottom accent is splayed across her collarbones and connects to the simple metal sleeves she has. It's covering the same area as the current top but thinner and the same color as her breastplate. She also does not have the hat.

Background Info: Valarie is from a society like the one Chesire described above where metahumans are viewed with more fear than anything. It's a very theocratic society that is intolerant of miracles that don't come from the Goddess. A very few are praised as they are seen to have powers granted by the Goddess due to piety or divine blessings, but they are mainly women who have powers involving agriculture the Goddess's main domain. Any others are viewed with suspicion or outright hatred. Valarie was marked for this life from her birth, because of her freckles and her powers. The followers of the Goddess believe radiant unblemished skin is a mark of piety/righteousness and things such as birthmarks, freckles and pimples are seen as sinful. This is why Valarie wears such a long dress, and the beginning of her supervillain career. Her family were low level villains, being outcast from the Church for some perceived sin and thus not allowed to hold jobs or receive assistance from relief agencies. When her parents were sentenced to life in a prison for their long lives of crime, Valarie was able to move cities and change her name to gain access to housing. She lives alone and runs a small shop selling knit products by day and terrorizing the city as Valkyrie by night.

Powers: Valkyrie was blessed with enhanced agility, speed and strength seemingly when she was born. She also feels less pain than most and has a healing rate that is faster than the average human. (Justification is wonky science that her super speed helps increase the speed of her body's response to being hurt and also allows her body to dismiss pain reactions faster, because everything about her is sped up. Including reaction times for agility and hair growth.)

@Cheshire Cat That does paint the picture of how many supers we'd run into on a day to day basis and how many of them are well deserving of the title super. Of the 13, assuming my character is of the potential to be Super, we have 4 metahumans who are of the super category. The grade-a psychic who's still a baby, superstrength hassling teenager, Shazam and me. 4 out of 13 of the Super calibre.

I guess the reason for this is twofold. The government program to test the serum was there to try and unlock potential supers in people who were very badly injured to the point where the serum would actually have to be used to regrow a good part of their body. Loren was caught in an electrical blast and resulting inferno. What's the likelihood that the government hit another jackpot? Well, the program could easily have had 50 people, and 6 of those people were metahumans, 2 of them being of a high enough calibre to be interesting to be moved to the "other" facility. She might even know these other super-metahumans and setup that meaningful background information ^_^

The other side of that reason is well... she's from a small town in somewhere west of the miss. Kansas, Nebraska. Northern California. Small town might still have enough supers to have a support group, according to our 12.5%. Of those, we might have 3-4 with some extraordinary potential. It also help get a feel for the public opinion. There's a dating app for supers. They're pretty accepted for the most part, as you've stated. A minority, sure, but like more commonly found than LGBT folk. There'd be political campaigns for metahuman rights. A movement. A hashtag. Politicians, even a candidate for president of the US for 2032. But it's also very sudden, isn't it? Like 9 years or something, right? That's a whole lot of turmoil in 9 years. (OOOH, and which cities are gone? ^_^)

For anyone wondering, Marcus Dawn's Magic is but a pale comparison of what it was in Zeograla. So it's mainly just party tricks at this point. Larger effects can be accomplished with prior preparation or a lengthy ritual.
This is because his current body just doesn't have the magical dexterity or experience of his old body.

@Is it Amy? Product of the information age, change happens quickly ^_^ It's overtaken the area between of the Navarro River Redwoods State Park, Hendy Woods State Park (which it has somewhat wrapped around), and Manchester State Park, which it has also partially engulfed. I hope that's got your mental map covered ^_^

@Lo DeBale No worries, happy trails ^_^

Name:
- Mara Mei Hanzo
Alias or Nickname: Shadow
Age: 18
Physical Description: By day, Mara works at the Asian Art Museum in San Franciso, California. (If it still exists). Her form of dress is simple contemporary black on black layers never showing more than her forearms if she can help it. And always in slacks or capris. Her long sleeves are stylish but always buttoned up, showing as little as possible. Her shoes however, are various high end heels, the only part of her attire she had full control over. Red and gold trim, sleeve mocha espresso, chocolate gold and eggshell designs. She has a whole section of her closet just for her shoes.

When not working, she attends a private school, majoring in Antiquity and Curating via online courses, though sometimes she does have to go to campus to test. After school and work, she trains in her families scared art in an underground parking lot on her uncles corporate grounds. She just recently gained the rights to access this place and train by herself, using her own passcode and badge with a fingerprint.

Training: Her family were reknowned for their military engineering techiknowledgy dating back generations, on both sides. Mara's father set up the training simulations sometime after Mara started showing signs of their family secret. With the help of Hanzo Hattori, head of their family, a rather convincing training program was made for a more modern Shikigami ninja to battle against without the stress of being discovered or causing damage to the outside world.

Alter-Ego~ Kamikage

Background Info: Born in Osaka, Japan to mother Mei Tokugawa and father Yasunori Hanzo, both families had a coexisting legacy together throughout history and shared many secrets as well as a vast industrial empire. But after the attempt assassination of Hattori Hanzo, the family head, Mara's mother Mei was killed saving Hanzo's life from a needle that was to pierce his heart. As a dying wish she asked Hanzo to keep her Mara safe from family matters, and he granted her request. Uprooting the main family from their home to relocate in New York, New York, America. There, Mara was raised as Mara Mei, and told she was adopted by the family shortly after they arrived in the U.S.

Much of her early life was spent in private parties, private lessons, and private ever watching vigiliance until she turned ten years old and started having sever headaches and high fever. After a few seizures later that year, she had awoken one morning seeing everything around her differently. Several weeks laters, she learned to move small objects with her mind, pushing and pulling at first. Her favorite pass time was Origami, as it was when she got to spend the most time with her grand father.

One day, Grand Master Hanzo started to notice that Mara was hiding something, and when prompted, she fell to her knees terrified that she would be sent away as if she were crazy. But Hattori performed the Shikigami style before her and told her the truth of her bloodline. Her training began that summer as she learned more and more of her families ancient secrets, style of combat and the infamous Hanzo powers.

Powers: The power to polymorph into a mass of origami paper sheets. Can create a paper sheet clone of herself. Can fly using paper sheet wings. Able to move, fold, and mold paper in various ways.

Weapons: Though Mara has no access to these instruments yet, they are made to be used by a Shikigami during combat:

Paper Bombs. Paper Web. Enchanted Paper (Fire/Water Proof). Paper Demon. (Armored Clone)

Note: The only known member of the Hanzo family who also carries the Shikigami power, Hattori Hanzo. The head of the family and Grand Master of the art. Hes powers have well surpassed the rest to this day.

Sorry for being absent a few days, just been hectic and I needed to clear my head, I'm back, un-vanished.

Can someone give me the TLDR version ?
Big city, semi-futuristic setting, metahumans everywhere, have their own niche in popular culture, big catastrophe took out all the most powerful heroes, now we're the second best.

Name: - Jess Gleeson
Alias or Nickname: - Miss Jessica
Age: - 27
Physical Description: - beautiful but dangerous. Jess likes to have control and firmly believes she is better than anyone or anything else. The daughter of a rich mother and father who were killed in the war before, she has taken up their mantle and runs a worldwide enterprise, with money in trade, drugs, the media and just about any modern industry you can think of. To the public her business affairs are used for the greater good, and she is very popular amongst the male population and is looked upon as an idol to any young females. She flaunts her perfect physique which only gives her the confidence to get what she wants and to get others to do what she wants. Heels, tight skirts and dresses are the outfits of the day and every day. She is not someone to be crossed but her overconfidence can often be a weakness.

Secret Identity ~One who hunts down meta-humans. She is believed to have descended from one of the original lines of meta-humans, one's that believe they have a god given right to be the superior species on this planet. Her mother and father were good people, however their daughter saw weakness in their ideals and sought out a different path.

Alter-Ego ~Is a manipulator, secretly funding groups that actively try and seek out these meta-humans to destroy and expose them. Jess also has major connections in the media and press which gives her the power to promote propaganda wherever she feels it's necessary, to have a detrimental effect on my rivals.

Background Info: Jess was saddened by her parents deaths but decided it would be best if she kept hidden. She knew the opportunity would arise to take over the business once her parents were out of the way. She's quietly taking steps and plotting against those she sees as a threat. Her powers are relatively unknown but are also quite subtle. She only uses them if she has to and tends to use manipulation to turn friends against friends and families and families. When she has fought she has been known to be very skilled with a blade. thm_phpLb70Eu.jpg
Powers: While i'm not able to directly start out as powerful I feel it's best to leave my powers as subtle. Jess's power is often directly linked to her status and reputation, which is unlikely to easily change at this point. Once the RP gets going i'll see what's possible. She can manipulate objects just as effectively as she does people.

Right, tonight is when I get the PC done. Been ill, catching up etc.., totally not plotting world dominations via adorable means.

Yeah, life is just, wooh, a little hectic right now. I'm sitting down tonight, tomorrow, and over the weekend (because I've never said THAT before) to get this shit done. I have no chores, no plans, and a bowl of ice for my fingers ... which sounds ... dirty ... somehow ... but I meant for typing, and I will add the completed characters to the roster, finish up the intro post, and officially open the RP. ANYONE STILL MAKING THEIR CHARACTERS, don' worry, there will be time to scatter intros, get people into the setting, setup plots and events and whatever anyone wants ^_^

Killion.jpg
Name: Kain (The Destroyer)
Alias or nickname: Hades, Hercules, Beelzebub, Gilgamesh (depending on the time)
Age: Immortal
Physical Description: Almost always as shown above. Sometimes he shimmers into a human form state, but is still pushing six foot six and a two hundred pounds of rock hard muscle.

Background info: The fable goes mankind bore two brothers, Kain and Abel. The god they worshiped looked favorable on Abel's crops, but snared at Kain's game. Hurt, disgraced and upset, Kain grew furiously jealous of his brother and killed him with his bare hands. He has been curse to walk the earth until the chosen one can kill him. Yet it had been almost two thousand years since that day.

Marked as a demon, turned into a man beast to forever be hunted, scorned, hated and feared by mankind for centuries. Yet as man progressed, so did much of their concepts and views of what makes a man or monster. Some countries or kingdoms, worshiped him as a god, where others found him to be king of the demons. He trained with the greatest warriors all across the ages in war and combat. An everlasting need to find the one soul who can grant him what he wishes the most, death.

He had been many heros and many villains throughout human history, and now more then ever, he is convinced that the chosen one is a one of those 'super heros' he had heard so much about. So now he stepped out of the dark shadows of hiding and meditation to finally take his place as his true self that no one ever knew, Kain the Destroyer.

Powers: Invulnerability. Godlike strength. Brilliant strategist. Incredibly intelligent. Skillful with nearly every known modern weapon and style of combat. Demon's Touch: After centuries of casting out spirits, he found a way absorb their soul. Now, he uses them to give life to everyday objects or infuse his own abilities or even fly.

Note: Kain is immortal. But can be killed through a ritual performed by the 'chosen one' using an ancient blade with no name.

Hope im not too late.. i figure every dozen great heros need an overpoweredly interesting villain. let the game begin.
