Here is a possible scenario. The mercs get the crown. They go to present the crown to Ulfric but one of the player characters decided fuck it I want to be king screw this Ulfric creep. Doesn't say anything to anyone and just guts him like a fish in a surprise attack.

Probably not a good idea but fun to think about.

Good luck getting that close to him without being shouted into a million pieces.

But how about this. We get the crown. We make our way back to Windhelm via the at this point secured Valtheim towers. Only that they aren't any longer held by Stormcloak forces. Being surprised we are forced to find another way into Stormcloak territory via the southern path by Helgen. That would also give the opportunity to set the whole Alduin thing in motion since that's supposed to already have happened by the point the jagged crown is retrieved.

If you are the person handing him the crown you can get really close. Close enough to fatally wound before he can shout and you can easily sidestep as you stab him in the heart.

I think the whole Dragonborn vs dragons thing is going to come later in this version of the game.

I like that idea. Of course the premise of this pass along is that the story isn't following the events of skyrim strictly. The idea of having the pc's approach Helgen to see it under attack by Alduin would make a great introduction to the antagonist.

Killing Ulfric would immediately make that character an enemy to the blades as well since the majority of them are loyal to the Nord cause. And what back up would they have to become king?

What backup did Ulfric have other than his charm and popular support? He was not descended from a previous high king. He was just a Jarl, a racist as fuck Jarl at that. His claim to the throne is tenuous at best.

It would be easy to take him down with fabricated letters or other items, and some well-timed and well-placed lies. The Nords would quickly turn on his ass and if someone were to show the Dunmer, Argonian, and Khajiit populace they would do better under their leadership they would have a much larger army.

Pretty sure Corellius could pull something out of his ass if he had to, the Tharns have been just about everywhere over the years. But that's not something i plan to do with this character.

The only other person with a claim aside from Papa Bear and Elisif the fair (that rhymes…) would be that loot hoarding and murdering wildcard of a dragonborn that hasn't been introduced yet. And that's more of a "folks would probably just go with it because savior of the world and stuff" kind of thing and not a real claim by blood and thus succession.

Then there's maybe Harkon but that's a longshot since his days as a king have been over for quite some time. Not that High King would be on his to do list anyways.

But the main point of conflict would be that nobody that attempts this would survive long. All those Assassin type characters are exactly that. Assassins. They strike from the shadows and are gone before anyone realizes what happened. It doesn't matter how good with a sword they are, they won't overpower more than three people in open combat. If that were the case we wouldn't need a whole company of people to fight. The same goes for Corellius. He either kills you from afar or gets his teeth kicked in when someone gets close. That translates to a bunch of Guards, whatever blades are present, a grumpy old Court Mage and a very pissed of Galmar would gangbang whoever does the deed right then and there and there's nothing that character can do unless they've found a way to use teleportation magic again which shouldn't be possible since that knowledge and in fact the very possibility of that spell have been lost.

The only person that could manage, and only as a future version of themselves, is currently busy illegally passing the border.

@Vasara Glyndark
Ulfric is Jarl in the city of Kings, the original capital of Skyrim and the first human/atmoran settlement in tamriel. That alone gives him massive support from the Nord population that cares about traditions, history and past heroes such as Ysgramor.

Ulfric has fought in the great war and has been captured as well as tortured by the Thalmor. His crusade is revenge and if he were to make that knowledge publich, the majority of people that have been wronged by the Thalmor would support him because they can relate to him in that way.

He challenged the former High King to a duel which he won, meaning he is indeed the stronger man and, at least in Nord culture, leader.

His racism is speculative at best. He never explicitly says anything racist aside from those typical "Skyrim is for the Nord" kind of things. And let's be honest. Lydia does the same and she doesn't give a flying fuck about the dragonborns race. As does Ulfric by the way. Even as a High elf he promotes you after every successful task and grows closer to the dragonborn. Would a racist do that? Make friends with a person from the race that literally tortured you for years? I don't think so. There are arguments to be made about how the dunmer in windhelm basically live in a ghetto and how the argonians aren't allowed within the city walls. But. Who stops the dunmer from just repairing their homes? Who stops them from renovating? Who stops the argonians from doing the same? Nobody. See it like this, dunmer live very long lifes. Several hundred years to be precise. How long ago did the red mountain errupt? If, to this day, no repairs, renovations or other acts that could improve their situation have been made then that's on them. But he certainly needs to check his soldiers and guards so that they don't treat them like shit, that's true.

And with a war to take care of Ulfric certainly has other things to do with his money than to throw it at people that won't support his
cause. Yet he doesn't throw them out. He simply leaves them be. If Tullius and by extension the Thalmor (and vice versa) would find out about a person in Solitude not openly supporting Elisif or at least the empire, i give you three guesses what's going to happen to them.

Not that he is without flaws of course. That while Markarth incident was fucked up. And he's obviously not seeing the bigger picture behind the white cold concordat. Not to mention that he's trying to defeat a weakened imperial legion just so the Thalmor can come in and murderfuck their way through Skyrim. But that's another matter entirely.

Don't forget that the Nords share a fair amount of that racism, or at least nationalism. There's no way they'd accept a non-Nord declaring themselves King, and King's are elected anway. Ulfric enjoys the support of half of Skyrim because he struck a blow against the outlawing of the worship of talos and the Almeri dominion.

Also, Ulfirc's backup is an entire army willing to die to see his vision realised.

Just an fyi, the advance party is:

Tyrael (wood elf NPC),
Correlius (imperial PC),
Kalen (reguard PC)
Elisande (breton NPC)
Leo (imperial PC),
Erlinl (nord NPC)
Akisma (argonian NPC)
and Eivor (nord PC)

Everyone else is with the main body of the army unless I missed anyone. Once the destruction specialists in the advance party start burning the barricade the main force'll arrive and we can enjoy some mass battle fantasy violence.

Corellius will not be attacking before the main party arrives so that his first attack can cause destruction where the defenders are assembling. He said as much during the last post. He in fact advised as much to the others.

Ok, the main force has arrived, the battle is about to commence.

Make it rain!

@Vasara Glyndark
His racism is speculative at best. He never explicitly says anything racist
His racism is spoken by his actions not his words.
One of the deeds that Ulfric did as Jarl was force the Argonian population outside the city walls via a decree, and segregate the Dunmer population to the Gray Quarter.
Ulfric also did not act if a group of Argonians, Dunmer refugees, or a Khajiit Caravan is ambushed, only sending aid or investigating when Nords are being threatened.

It is further implied that Ulfric desires a Skyrim full of Nords, without other races. As evidenced by:
Dialogue with Stormcloak Commanders
Ulfric's speech during the "Battle for Solitude"
Dialogue with Stormcloak Soldiers
Dialogue with Brunwulf Free-Winter
Dialogue with Legate Rikke

As for him working with a Dragonborn who is of a race he is racist against, power is all he cares about. The Dragonborn can give him what he wants. Plus the game designers didn't want to lock people out of that choice because they chose the wrong race at the beginning of the game.

If I had the choice neither the Empire nor Stormcloaks would have won. They would have both been wiped out. Stormcloaks for being the racist fucks they are and the Empire because they don't belong there.

I wouldn't count dialogues with people other than the man himself. None of them know him after all with the exception being Galmar of course.

I've just checked the victory speech in Solitude. I haven't read anything racist there. The most racist thing he said was that it's for the nords to rebuild skyrim which seems like the obvious consequence seeing that it's their homeland…

Ulfric is fighting an uphill battle. Every man he sends to investigate anything is a soldier that he may loose. That's not something he can risk easily given that the empire is technically vastly outnumbering him considering they have several more legions. And even though these legions are pretty busy themselves, Cyrodiil may be able to muster reserves or send freshly trained recruits when given enough time.

Considering that, you wouldn't find me sending soldiers to help people that don't care about my war and risk loosing that soldiers to wildlife, bandits, dragons, imperial scouts and whatever else lurks in skyrims wilderness.

As for the Argonians, the last thing the Argonians did was murdering their way through Morrowind in revenge for centuries if slavery. While that's more or less justified you also wouldn't find me inviting people capable of that inside a city that houses those same people that they've been killing. I'd be going as far as to say that only one of the two groups should stay in one city until a lot more time has passed. He's technically risking a small war within his city by allowing both dunmer and argonians to stay. That's like putting Holocaust survivors and SS descendants into the same room. It would be fucking weird for both parties. One clearly remembering what happend and the other effectively turning a blind eye since it wasn't their own doing. It's an extreme example but it's like 0:30 am and i'm tired.

But i do agree that neither of the possible choices are good. Skyrim is fucked either way.

So i just checked some profiles from the people involved here. Orthodox hasn't been on the sanctum since May 26. Diremast on June 27.

Do with that information what you want but i wouldn't hope on a post from either anytime soon.

Will update all threads tomorrow. Hope everyone's having a good week!

Is this still a thing and can I join?
