I honestly don't know how to come in to the rp

Well, you can write your character as being a member of the Circle of Blades (it's a mercenary army with 60 odd members, no restrictions on race, gender or class) and they'll have retroactively been in from the start of the story, and can immediately join in with the battle that's going on.

Had a shit weekend. It stormed like shit and i was busy pumping out water from my cellar.

Night could be a imperial prisoner at the towers? A scout from the circle that was watching our back in case the imperials wanted to ambush from behind? Lots of possibilities.

Corellius is passed out, he won't make an appearance in this duel so don't wait for a reply from me.

Did anyone notice that Eivor's conditions specifically set up the duel in her favor?

It's an open invitation for a bit of flavour at the end of the battle, after that it's some respite, then the smaller party's head off to get the crown.

FYI, there's no way the imperial captain is putting down his weapons for the duel.

Eivor has a solution for that. Just keep calling him a chicken and making sure Luna knows the captain is a chicken. Problem solved.

Why not just have a straight fight? He'll lose either way. But there's no logical reason for him to put down the equipment I took the time to describe.

This is a vehicle for one of the characters to showcase their toughness in a hard won fight. Rosh or Jade'll step forward to fight him on his terms if no-one else does.

She wants to humiliate him in front of his men.

I must admit, i am a bit confused. We were given skillpoints and the ability to choose the gear our characters have. Yet none of this seemed to have any sort of impact as of now.

Am i wrong to portray Corellius as i have? I intentionally made him unable to just spam one hits across the map going as far as to have him almost faint afterwards.

Meanwhile there are characters running around seemingly killing everything in the most brutal and almost edgy fashion without having to deal with any drawbacks, resistance or the smallest hint of exhaustion.

The problem about this is that nothing has been said about which way to go? Keep it realistic? Do whatever we want?

As far as skill points go, they are supposed to determine what a character can realistically do. Leo's strongest magic was illusion and invisibility is an expert spell. He was trained in sneak and on handed so scoring a stealth kill on a single soldier was within his ability range. His apprentice level in conjuration allowed him to resurrect a low level solider, he had one more spell before he ran out of mana, and will be out of the rest of the battle.

But yes, characters should stick within the realm of what they would realistically be able to do, which was the whole point of the skill system in the first place.

Ok, I've got some things to get off my chest.

I am stressed out. I am writing this while working a full time job, and so far have had to deal with:

-People dropping out and going no contact with no explanation.
-Complaints about me building up and writing scenes for the npc characters. In an army. Of 60 people.
-People not bothering to add any/more npc's or learn the existing ones.
-Being forced to pull the trigger on the quest for the crown early because...
-People complained about writing within the format the story is presented in.

And today I've had to debate about why the Imperial Captain wouldn't put down his weaponry which I had just written a post about detailing because I obviously was planning to have him wield them, and complaints from Archon, presumably about Vasara, having 'characters running around seemingly killing everything in the most brutal and almost edgy fashion without having to deal with any drawbacks, resistance or the smallest hint of exhaustion.'

I have made this as wide open as possible. I gave everyone carte blanch to populate the Circle of Blades and write dialogue for the existing npcs. I put in the skill system in the hope that it would serve as an effective guideline for how characters would conduct themselves on and off the battlefield.

The title of this is Skyrim: CIVIL WAR. It's supposed to be a story in the spirit of Berserk Golden Age. A mercenary army fighting for the revolution. The point of this was to build up the comradery within the circle of blades, fight some epic battles, some wins, some losses, love and death. Tell a story with a satisfying conclusion which could be followed up at a later date with the Dragonborn story.

I feel like I'm banging my head against a wall here. This feels like a chore. I wanted to write this for fun.

I don't know if I've got the motivation to carry on with this. Can you please, PLEASE help me out? I don't want to have to bicker or debate every new page. I simply don't have the energy.

To follow up:

I've just had a fucking hard day. I'm not angry. I'm just bloody tired. I need sugar and a good night's sleep. I'm sure we'll be able to steer this thing in the right direction. Today was just the straw which broke the camel's back

A lot of people I know are going through those hard times lately. My Godfather just got a cancer diagnosis. My sister was recently rushed to the hospital. So I'm not exactly in the best frame of mind lately. Sobriety has been trying me lately as I come up to 250 days.

We'll get this right. We just need to work out a few issues and we'll get there.

First of all, i am sorry for what you're going through at the moment especially considering your family. That's difficult and extremely distracting which i understand completely because i've been through similar times.

Secondly, addressing what's bothering you is a good thing no matter if it sounds angry or not. There's no way of dealing with issues if nobody opens their mouth about them. So that was a step into the right direction.

I don't want anybody to take any of the next statements personal or something, i'm just trying to say my mind as plainly as possible. Now, to answer some of your critique.

-You won't be able to stop people from ghosting or stating their interest before disappearing. That's shit but it's how it is sadly. Especially in a group rp. Thought i admit i'd expect people to have the balls to simply state their disinterest in a story and excuse themselves before leaving so i am also pissed at certain individuals that haven't been part of this rp for a while. But there's nothing we can do about it.

-Not sure if that's meant for me but i'll clarify my point of view on this. Fleshing out characters isn't usually a bad thing. Every good story needs a bunch of interesting npcs or side characters to properly flesh out the world. But it has to be done right. A few sentences here and there don't make a character. Neither does a datasheet. They need their own stories. And they need their own time in each reply. You can't expect me to have any interest in a character that hasn't had more than three sentences to say or that has never interacted with my own character in a meaningful way, which isn't possible at this point. If you're asking me there have been too many characters introduced in too little time. Neither of them has been given a chance to properly introduce themselves and their story. What's weird about this is that i'm currently more interested in Captain Rosh than Leo who's a player character but comes weirdly short in terms of "screentime". I guess there's some sort of balance missing but i also have no idea how to fix that.

-Now that's one for me directly. Let me explain myself. I'm not adding any character because i can't guarantee to write more than one character with the quality i want to. English isn't my native language, i'm rereading my replys several times while also struggling with finding the right words for certain scenes which sometimes ends in weird ways of describing things. I fear i'm going down the same route as both of you by adding more characters. That route being a. very little parts to write for each character and b. completely disregarding any proof reading and termination of grammatical errors. Especially point b. is already quite time costly for me mind you. The question i have to ask myself is if i want to keep to Corellius and write him with what i believe is a fair bit of text and at least a bit of quality or do i risk disregarding that for more characters? I hope you can see why i'm not adding characters off of this explanation.

About not learning the existing ones, here's a small list instead of an entire essay. Little to no interaction with my pc, little screentime in general, no emotional connection. The biggest problem is that with one reply every three to four days it's quite difficult to stay on top of all the characters. But, i also don't see that as a problem because there's a npc gallery to check so its not like i can't write a scene with any of them i'll just have to look them up before and that's it. But i do expect that to change once they all start bothering the only real mage in the army for whatever it is they think he can do for them and mire interactions happen. Give it some time and that problem should take care of itself.

-You decided on Valtheim towers. That means Whiterun hold. It's either the crown or the siege. The only other way from out current position is back to Windhelm or do something in the Rift. Or Helgen i guess but Ulfric has to be there and i doubt he'd reach it faster considering the imperial ambush. Anyways, if you don't want to start the crown yet then don't. I admit i would have liked a chance for the pc characters to get some time to interact with each other on a mission but i'm not trying to force anyone into anything.

-elaborate please

I've complained and asked if i'm wrong to write Corellius as i have. I have not gotten an answer to this. The answer i got was that the skill system is supposed to be a guideline. I wasn't told a. yes it's realistic so it's fine. or b. no, go fucking nuts. Which makes me wonder if my texts are even completely read to be honest.

How about this, take every skill tree that we have and elaborate what you can do with how many points in it. Example:

One handed:
1 - looses against a legionarie
2 - draw against a legionarie
2 - win
4 - win against two
5 - win against three

There wouldn't be any open questions about what we can realistically do that way and we wouldn't have to bother with those kind of things.

As i said, don't take any of this the wrong way it's just me saying my mind. Both of you are welcome to do the same. I don't mind having a bunch of characters included and i don't mind cringe and edgy over the too violent characters but we'll need to clear those things up before continuing.

Thanks for communicating Archon.

We'll bring a few npcs on the trip to the Crown to flesh them out and create a group dynamic with the pcs. Let me know if there's any you want to come with.

What I might do in the meantime is write a side story with the body of the army to flesh out the others and make more accessible.

You've written Correlius well. No complaints here.

With clarifying what skills do, that template with one handed works fine. With magic it'd just be characters knowing a couple of spells per level, with spells matching the levels (I.e. invisibility is an expert level Illusion spell so an apprentice level wouldn't know it).

From a logical point of view Rosh should be coming along or send someone high ranking in his place. From his standpoint (with the exception of Leo of course) neither of the pcs should seem trustworthy enough to deal with the crown unsupervised. Corellius is part of a powerful pro imperial family making it impossible to fully trust him this early on. And i doubt i'll have to explain trust issues concerning vampires, werewolves and assassins…

You can trust Akisma…..not to stab you in the back at least for the moment. 😉
