There's nothing particularly amazing about a celestial phenomenon. The moon covers the sun, the sky darkens for a few minutes, and then it is all over. The bits of space debris burn up in the atmosphere in pretty colors that draw the eye, then they are gone. The earth and moon keep on about their cycle around our unremarkable sun, the stars seem to dance but we are the ones who move. So what makes us stop and look up? Maybe it is the reminder of how small we really are. How fleeting and fragile our lives. Or maybe it's something else. Like a magnetic pull that draws us out of our daily grind, calls to us to be more than we are. It connects us to our ancestors and makes us ask the very same questions they did. Who am I? Why am I here? What am I supposed to do now? Is there something, or someone, out there?

It started during an ordinary meteor shower. Same one that came around every generation or so. Nothing extraordinary about it. Except for a chosen few. On this night, their whole lives would change. Starting today, they would begin to realize abilities lain dormant within them until this point. What makes them different? What will bring them together, or tear them apart? And how will the rest of the world change as a result? Is it a miracle or an evil? A blessing or a curse? Only time will tell. And it keeps ticking...

The setting is modern realistic. Characters should be random and diverse. They can only have one power, but as they develop their power it will stabilize and grow stronger and easier to control so they can use it in different ways. None of them have any idea they have this potential, so the first time they use it will probably be an accident. How will they react? Will they keep it a secret, or try to confide in someone?

Looking for four players (not including myself) to play at least two main characters each. One normal and one gifted, two gifted, or even two normal. If you want to add more that's great, but don't push yourself. *If you only want to do one character, that's fine too!*

Even though it is based on the TV show Heroes, I want to see only original characters. If you've never seen the show, perfect! You won't have any preconceived notions about what's going to happen (which would probably be wrong anyway) and who is good or bad (which could always change). There will be factions trying to use, capture, or kill those with abilities, while the vast majority of the population thinks that these stories belong in comic books and old B movies. At least, for now. But a few are still around who know the truth.

Sounds like fun! I'd be interested, though may only have the time to reply consistently with one character due to work and preparation for school.

Interested. Is there a character sheet I need to fill out?
Not yet, this is just the discussion to see who all is interested.

That's fine. I'm not going to be strict about the two character thing, it was just an idea to help populate the game. Who knows, somebody else might want to do three or four.

On that note, if your character dies, you can make a new one if you like.

Alright, sounds good. I've got an abundance of character ideas logged up. What kinds of abilities are you talking about, by the way? Minor things like healing from injuries a bit faster, or bigger things like full on lasers flying about?

More of the first and less of the second. Somewhere between the two.

That's three. Going to talk to one more person about joining in. Out of curiosity how many characters is everyone planning to play?

Update - He's in. I'll reserve judgment on how many characters I'm playing until everyone else weighs in.

On the subject of guidelines I'm not a strict GM at all. My two rules are don't godmode and wait at least two posts between your own, that's it. I welcome any quesions, comments or suggestions here, anything plot related by PM. Mainly just have fun with it and we will see where it goes.

I can play any number of characters but, if you knew me beyond here you'd know how insane posts like that can become... like when I was controlling 4 characters 11 major npcs a background crowd and the antagonist, all in one post which got so big it exceeded character limit....

So uh, lets say one, for now, unless we need shoes to be filled ;P

WIP

Name: Pete Burnham

Nickname/Alias:

Age: 27

E2463DB4-2091-4E23-9DE6-32125507DAD3.jpeg

Normal, Gifted, or Unknown: Gifted

Power/Primary Skills: Fire Manipulation

Advanced Power/Secondary Skills: Fire Embodiment

Alignment: undecided

Occupation: Bartender

Personality: There's more than meets the eye in the case of Pete Burnham, but if there's anything you should know it's that he's friendly and cheerful. Of course he's also planful, sharing and individualistic, but they're in shorter supply, especially considering they're mixed with being inconsiderate as well.
His friendliness though, this is what he's kind of cherished for. Friends tend to count on this and his adventurous nature when they're in need of support.
Nobody's perfect of course and Pete has plenty of rainy days too. His irresponsibility and thoughtlessness do cause plenty of friction, though more on a personal level than for others.
Fortunately his cheerfulness helps prevent most of these grievances.

Name: Tabitha Morrow

Nickname/Alias: Cheshire - Her eyes were once caught on camera, freaking out the security guard on duty and ultimately getting him fired because of the crazy story. He related her eyes to the Cheshire cat's grin, and the name stuck.

Age: 22

th.jpg

Normal, Gifted, or Unknown: Gifted

Power/Primary Skills: Invisibility - temporary but total except for her eyes if one is looking directly at her. With practice has managed to avoid detection for up to five minutes. But at this point her concentration is easily broken.

Advanced Power/Secondary Skills: Will eventually be able to disappear longer and "project" her invisibility onto other people or objects.

Alignment: None but herself, but might be persuaded.

Occupation: Cat Burglar. Pun intended. She bounces around a lot between day jobs.

Personality: Tabby, as she was always known by family and school mates, was always quiet and reserved in public. But with an audience of a few she changes dramatically into a high energy attention hog and class clown who always has a joke or smart remark. Due to being orphaned at a young age, she has a deep seeded need for approval and belonging, but she would deny it with a smart alek's sharp tongue as she doesn't want to be seen as weak. She gets bored easily, and her impulsiveness often gets her into trouble.

Contacts: Family, Friends, Romantic Interest - Has a ton of acquaintances, but no true friends. Has an adoptive family she still reaches out to occasionally. Never really stuck with one boyfriend long enough for any serious relationships.

Brief Bio: She doesn't want to talk about it.

Nickname/Alias: Known in internet circles as Alpha Charlie Tango, or just Alpha or Act for short.

Age: N/A

*No physical description information available*

Normal/Gifted/Unknown: Suspected to be Gifted

Power/Primary Skills: Suspected Cyberpathy and/or Technopathy

Advanced Power/Secondary Skills: Unknown

Alignment: All the major groups suspect Alpha of working for the others, but in reality he or she seems to have a separate agenda. What that is can only be guessed at.

Occupation: Hacking, Intelligence, Counterintelligence, Recruitment for organizations the outside world doesn't know exist. If he or she has another job, it isn't known.

Personality: Seems to act differently to different people under different circumstances. The one connection is that Alpha stresses the importance of the individual he or she is speaking to taking matters into their own hands. But Alpha has been known to "pull strings" to make seemingly impossible things happen if necessary, leading to the above conclusion about Alpha's abilities. It is clear that this person values some lives above others, however, so it is best to take precautions when dealing with them.

Contacts: Personal life is kept secret, but makes reference to a mentor known as Simone. Seems sufficiently sure that it is safe to talk about her, so it would seem that if such a person does exist she is either dead or her records have been erased. Acquaintances can only be guessed at, but as for friends it seems Alpha does not have that luxury as ever he/she is making effort to remain anonymous.

Name: Dinah Garnett

Nickname/Alias: Lilith Muse

Age: 27 (Lilith claims to be immortal)

Normal Appearance:
allijay_websize_by_anathematixs-d7730nx.jpg

As Lilith:
0e40acd0155f87a1748ad1dd8769ee74--character-concept-art-character-ideas.jpg

Normal/Gifted/Unknown: Dinah is normal, but Lilith is her gifted alter ego.

Power/Primary Skills: Dinah is persuasive, a great speaker and motivator. So is Lilith, but in addition Lilith can manipulate plants and even take on the characteristics of some plants such as poisonous touch or sweet scent.

Advanced Power/Secondary Skills: Dinah prides herself in being a Jill of all trades. After all, working beside someone makes it easier to win their vote. Her focus is on gaining and keeping allies, though. Lilith, however, does not need such mundane means to gain followers. She can simply manipulate individuals directly utilizing her power. But some people seem immune, however. She is rumored to be more powerful the more people she has around her. The only thing for certain is that she gets less stable and more dangerous during these times. (Not that super powered schizophrenics aren't dangerous anyway.)

Alignment: Dinah is aligned with the government and her own interests, and Lilith with her followers and cause.

Occupation: Dinah is a politician, but Lilith is the leader of an underground cult of earth worshippers who believe her to be a reincarnated goddess.

Personality: Dinah as a politician is in it for the win, whether it's an election or lobbying for someone else, so her alignment changes as it suits her interests. Lilith as the leader of the New Eden cult and self proclaimed "avatar of the goddess" has a more singular purpose. Her sense of morality is ironclad, although heavily skewed, and she really believes that she will usher in a new age of humanity. At any cost. The irony is, these two personalities are completely unaware of each other. Dinah doesn't even know that people with special abilities exist, and Lilith could not care less about the fleeting affairs of mere human mortal politics. That could soon change though...

Contacts: Who does Dinah Garnett NOT know? That would be the more apt question. She comes from a long line of rich, powerful, and influential families, so it wouldn't be hard for her to call in a favor, yet she prefers to get along on her own merits. She is currently looking for a relationship as the last one ended unexpectedly when he just disappeared and refused to contact her. Lilith is well connected in her own underworld circles. Her followers are her family, and she has no need of a significant other since there's none in her cult that would deny her if she was feeling particularly generous.

Brief Bio: Much of what is known about both women has been scrubbed from the record. Although they don't know what she's up to, Lilith is on the watch list for being tied to a multitude of crimes. Maybe the reason no one knows she is the same person is because Dinah is still a relatively small fish. What is known is that she has a mysterious disease that makes her black out and lose periods of time, and that information is being carefully guarded by her family's government ties. She takes medicine to suppress the symptoms, and thus Lilith herself, but she is a busy woman and often forgets.

Just wanted to get my initial thoughts down, will update later.

Name: Jonathan Simmons

Nickname/Alias: John, Jonny

Age: 31

[Picture or Description goes here.]
Blond hair and green eyes with a charming smile. 6'2" and a slender, but well toned build. Wears a business suit, but always appears at ease in any situation.

Gifted: Cloning (separate entities, but can share thoughts and experiences)

Power/Primary Skills: Cloning: can become four duplicates. There is absolutely no difference between them and they can all communicate with each telepathically, over any distance. Small arms for self defense. Computer skills for searching and breaking encryptions.

Advanced Power/Secondary: persuasive and charming, best way to get information is to become their friend. Currently trying to increase the number of clones he can create.

Alignment: Working with selves, the good of the people

Occupation: Reporter(s)

Personality: Friendly, outgoing, and charismatic. He enjoys large gatherings though only one copy ever attends a single function. He's wick to befriend people, especially if they have information he wants.

Contacts: Many acquaintances, but none he trusts with his secret. Family is dead out astranged.

Brief Bio: Richard was an ordinary reporter, barely making ends meet. Them two years ago everything changed. He discovered he could split himself in two and be in control of both bodies at the same time. With the extra man power he was able to find more stories, dig deeper into secrets, and have many interviews, all without banking to spend more money. Since then he's been able to split himself two more times, though the strain on his mind takes a while to get used to. It's like a new muscle he has to develop. Now he's a well known and respected reporter, far from the most famous in the city, but he does have connections.

Name: Mercedes (alternate alias)

Nickname/Alias: Mac

Age:22

Mercedes.jpg

Normal, Gifted, or Unknown: Gifted
Power/Primary Skills: Granulation

Advanced Power/Secondary Skills: Granulation stopping (able to stop something from entirely turning into sand, but only so long as he focuses on it)

Alignment: Former Government Agent (See occupation)

Occupation: Unemployed after retiring from J.T.F2 (Canada's Navy SEALs) and moving to America.

Personality: Mercedes is entirely closed off about his career in the military, but otherwise is a relatively friendly person. While not outgoing in the way of seeking out companionship he isn't such a dick as to just brush off other people, and clearly enjoys being around others even if he won't verbally admit it. He tends to get hot-headed quite easily whenever someone offends him or a 'team-mate' (his way of admitting he has friends), and always seems to have some injury ranging from bruises to a split lip.

Contacts: Cut all ties when he left his old life behind.

Brief Bio: Mercedes was, from the day he was born; a fighter. He always picked fights with the neighborhood kids, and then the neighborhood bar regulars, and then the average neighborhood cage fighters. But he was not without ambition, and using his life of pain and hard fought wealth, enlisted in the Royal Military College in Ontario. Excelling past his peers in hand to hand combat and aquatic expeditions, he netted himself a surefire spot in Joint Task Force 2. He completed several hundred successful missions across the globe, until the manifestation of his power. He was on mission in [REDACTED] when engaging in physical suppression of a primary target, the man turned to sand in Mercedes' hands. In a panic he accidentally killed 2 of his squad mates who refused to back off on his warnings and made physical contact with him, and were subsequently turned to sand as well. Mercedes fled the country, and abandoned his life as it was. He used his extensive resources as a covert militant operative to relocate to America, and resides there with no current occupation besides permanent drunk lousing around bars.

I'm cool with another member if someone wants to join

Right I had a question about an idea for a power too. Would minor hallucination inducement be alright? Like making people see something, hear a noise, or feel something that isn't real. Wasn't planning on anything bigger than like seeing a cat run by or feeling a hand tap the shoulder but wanted to make sure you were okay with an ability that can affect people specifically as well as something that can affect more than one sense.
