Closed Heroes: Light and Darkness

Ok, I will be posting sometime either today or tomorrow. My apologies for holding things up. New players, you can jump right in after your characters are up.

Name: Dr. Kendra Harris

Nickname/Alias: Dr. Harris

Age: 43

Dr. Harris is a tall, statuesque black woman with short, natural hair and a slender build. Her intense dark eyes and default stern expression can make her appear unapproachable. She is capable of smiling, but it's uncommon.
latest

Normal, Gifted, or Unknown: Normal

Power/Primary Skills: Kendra is a talented Epidemiologist and Geneticist who holds a leadership position at the CDC. She is capable of holding her own when dealing with both governmental bureaucracy and local authorities. She spent time as a combat surgeon in the Middle East and was known for steady hands, steely nerves, and an icy demeanor.

Advanced Power/Secondary Skills: Kendra is hoping to understand the unnatural abilities that are coming to light in the wake of the event and develop ways to neutralize, control, or even create them.

Alignment: Dr. Harris works for the CDC and the federal government.

Occupation: Physician

Personality: Kendra is a serious, driven woman who is stubbornly determined to achieve her goals. She genuinely loves her son, but can get caught up in work, so isn't as attentive as she might be. Kendra cares about people, but she does so at a high level. Being an Epidemiologist, she knows there are situations where you may have to make sacrifices for the greater good.

Contacts: Clay Foster (son), Perry Foster (Estranged Ex-Husband), Jasmine Harris (Mother), Woodrow Harris (Brother)

Brief Bio: Kendra came from nothing, but with determination, drive, will, and intellect, did what was needed to claw her way out of the projects she'd been born in. Scholarships got her into school, the military paid for her MD, the CDC paid for her Epidemiology and Genetic Engineering PHDs.

While pursuing her PHDs, she met Perry Foster, a charming fellow who swept her off her feet. They were married and shortly thereafter had Clay. Shortly after that, Perry cheated on Kendra, and she left him, taking Clay with her. The divorce was brutal, with Perry's expensive lawyers hammering her on her family and upbringing, but she turned it around by admitting all of that was true, but showing what she'd made of her life. She was granted full custody and child support, which Perry occasionally pays.

Since then, she's had little faith in men and focused on her career and child. Although now that Clay is off to college, she can't help but notice how lonely her life is.

Name: Clay Foster

Nickname/Alias: What, Clay isn't short enough?

Age: 21

Clay is a lighter skinned, somewhat androgynous black man in his early twenties with a carefully maintained curly mop of hair, bright blue-green eyes, and a mischievous sort of energy about himself. He's tall and slender, often wearing bulky clothing in contrast to his wiry frame.

Normal, Gifted, or Unknown: Gifted

Power/Primary Skills: Telepathy. Occasionally, Clay will pick up on random surface thoughts from the minds around him, but the sense isn't directional, and he doesn't hear the thought in the thinker's 'voice'. It's just a random thought that pops into his head that he /knows/ isn't his own. By concentrating intently on someone within' around 10 meters, he can 'listen' to their surface thoughts. Doing so for more than a few moments causes a sort of feedback loop that leaves him with a fierce migraine.

Clay is also a college student studying civil engineering and architecture. He has an excellent sense of spacial awareness and can quickly perform complex math in his head. He also has an excellent singing voice and is fantastic at karaoke.

Advanced Power/Secondary Skills: As he continues to grow and discover more about his powers, it will be easier to read people's minds, and while he will never control their thoughts, he could learn to insert thoughts into their minds that they think are their own. Doing so will allow him to learn more via his telepathy, as the thoughts he inserts could bring other thoughts or images to the surface. Also, he might learn to better identify the thoughts he picks up from the world around him.

Alignment: Undecided. Clay doesn't really want his abilities to come out, because who knows how people will react. He's scared about the sort of things he could possibly learn or do.

Occupation: College Student

Personality: Clay is as irreverent as his mother is serious. His has an uncanny ability to seem utterly unconcerned about something while still giving it the attention it needs to succeed, which irritates his mother to no end. He makes jokes when he's uncomfortable and tends to be very open minded. Something of a social butterfly, he flits through life without any real attachments. He has many friends, but no confidantes. Occasionally people get a glimpse of the calculating person underneath the Devil May Care attitude, but it's as rare as his mother's smile.

Contacts: Dr. Kendra Harris(mother), Perry Foster(father), Jasmine Harris (Grams), Woodrow Harris (Uncle Ro)

Brief Bio: Clay's parents divorced when he was just a toddler, so he's never known them to be close. He rarely knew of his father. He saw him sometimes on the holidays, but for the most part, he was just a distant figure who didn't like his mom very much. His mom was something of a workaholic who had high standards and expectations for Clay, who met them, but rarely with the fervor she was looking for. He ran some track, did some swimming, but didn't tend to have much of a competitive spark. Instead he was drawn to music and theater. He faced some bullying, as everyone does, but nothing too bad.

Currently, he's an engineering student and something of a bon vivante.

Of course, he hit a bit of a stumbling block after the meteor shower. He ended up hospitalized for about a week with incredible migraines. His mother hovered around, but didn't treat him for ethical reasons. One day, the migraines just… stopped, with a sensation like a bubble popping. Ever since then, he can read minds.

Looking really good.

And I posted, so time for round two. You guys don't wait on me, just remember to wait at least two or three posts between your own.

HEY CAN I JOIN?? I have two characters I can use, but it seems like you're filling up quick, so I'll just use one. Tendrils or teleportation? Which should I use?

If anyone needs ideas for their starter just let me know and I can help.

Go right ahead. I should take down the closed sign. Lol. Looking for some more normal characters too.

Name: Andy Drake

Nickname/Alias: N/A

Age: 23

Physical Description: Andy stands at about 6'7, yes he's that tall, has dark tan skin and medium/long dark brown hair. He has indigo eyes, full lips, and even for having a rather lanky body type, he's actually pretty buff. He's an odd one. His casual wear is a gray tanktop under a black zip up hoodie, dark gray skinny jeans, and casual black running shoes.

Normal, Gifted, or Unknown: Gifted

Power/Primary Skills: Teleportation. Andy can teleport pretty much anywhere, as long as he's either been there before, or sees it currently. He can't teleport via photographs or anything, he has to have physically seen the place himself to be able to teleport there. His means of teleportation is by blinking while having a place in mind or sight. He has to be willing to teleport to actually do it though, which is hard not to want, obviously. You ever get that feeling, "boy I wish I could just teleport there instead of walking all that way," well, he gets that often, so it's hard to control himself when it comes to using his ability.

Advanced Power/Secondary Skill: As an added buff, he can hit harder, resist damage, and run faster. His fear becomes increasingly less and less as he continues to use his powers. He's usually a shy one anyways, so this is a good thing for him. That is, until it gets to the point where he isn't afraid of death itself.

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Occupation: Bartender/Waiter

Personality: Andy is usually rather shy and disconnected, often avoiding eye contact during speech. If he is approached though, he gladly makes conversation, and more listens, as long as the other has something to say and can hold a conversation better than him. He seems to get a lot of attention from women around his age, but he is too naïve to pick up on their interests. If he does pick it up, he starts acting all nervous and will likely make a fool of himself in one way of another. As for how he handles fights, he nonchalantly punches someone in the face and knocks them out instantly. He really doesn't try to, and apologizes afterwards, but damn does he have a good right hook.

Contacts: His mother, father, and 8 other siblings. (I won't bother naming them)

Brief Bio: When Andy was a kid, he was probably the most popular kid in school. Always got into fights, got a lot of girls, and never really excelled scholastically. As he grew, he found his ideals, those being, "Let change consume you, especially if the current you isn't the real you." He kinda made that up himself, needs some work in his opinion. Could be worded better. By high school, he was more of one to break up fights, and sit alone at a lunch table. He never invested in clubs or organizations, and never went to college, as he didn't want to waste his family's limited money, and no way was he getting a scholarship with his grades. At least he was able to graduate. He grew to be a great guy, working at a local sports bar, and living in a one person apartment. Nothing exciting... until the meteor shower.

Oh! that could be interesting. Perhaps have Daniel and Andy live on the same floor and are somewhat neighborly to each other?
